we can help.
We know it’s a big change
moving on from school and trying
to decide what’s next.
That’s why our Say Hello events
are perfect for getting a real
taste of college life and finding
out what to expect, to help you
make that important decision.
We’re running taster sessions for our
different subject areas to help you
find out about our courses and to
experience what life is really like here
at Gateshead College. You’ll get the
chance to take part in fun, interactive
activities, meet our teachers and
make new friends along the way.
You can take part in as many taster
sessions as you like. All sessions
are open to applicants and non
applicants.
If you’ve already applied to study with
us, you can still come along and make
friends before joining us in September.

to A Levels.
Say Hello to A Levels
Come along to our taster evening and find out more about our A
Level courses. Sign up to 30 minute sessions where you can speak
to our experienced teaching team, tour our facilities and find out
more about the A Level subjects we have on offer, as well as the
vocational subjects you can combine them with.

Exploring A Levels
Bring your parents/guardians along to this taster session where
we’ll share more about our A Level offer. Parents/guardians
will enjoy a presentation covering the GCSE points system,
entry criteria for the different subjects, how to choose the right
subjects, the student support we offer, how UCAS works and
the brilliant things our former students are up to. Meanwhile,
you can take part in subject taster sessions. Choose up to three
sessions where you’ll be able to meet our teachers, understand
more about our subjects, what they can lead to and what life is
like as a student at Gateshead College.

to Arts, Design & Media.
Gamerama Cinco
Our Baltic Campus will be transformed into a gaming and
creative zone for all you gamers, artists and filmmakers. Meet
our team, find out more about our games courses, take a
look at our design studios and other fantastic facilities and
see demos of student work.

You can also take part in our gaming tournament or a Smash
Brothers “smash up”, build a real Minecraft, or take a look at
our media zone with interactive FX and green screen and
photography lab. There’ll also be retro gaming, a doodle wall,

Play competition.

The Big Pizza Draw
Love pizza? Love art? Perfect. Come along to our big pizza
draw, where you’ll be creating drawings and eating pizza.
Be prepared, it could get messy. Meet members of our art
team who will be able to tell you more about our art and
photography courses.
Film School
An evening of film critique, popcorn and fun. Meet members
of the art team who will talk to you about our media courses
while exploring a range of modern film techniques.

Games and pizza? Count us in!

Creative summer school
Find out what it’s like to be an art, media or games student at
Gateshead College. You can try out fun and creative activities
while making new friends and getting to know our super
supportive team of teachers. It’s a great way to get a feel for
college life and try out some of the things we do.
End of year show
Come and see the brilliant exhibitions of the students from
our creative department. Check out their work from the
previous year and see what you could be doing on one of our
courses.

Get behind the wheel
Get under the bonnet and your hands dirty in our motor
vehicle taster session. You’ll get the chance to remove and
refit different vehicle components and have a go at paint
refinishing vehicle body panels. Plus, take a tour of our
industry standard workshops.
Access all areas
Take a tour of our industry standard workshops and have
a go at using specialist equipment to find out more about
using pneumatic PLC systems and simulation. Plus, meet our
teaching experts and find out more about our engineering
courses and apprenticeship vacancies.

Join owner of Aidan’s Kitchen and former Gateshead College
student Aidan Jackson for a taster in cake decorating.
Develop your piping skills, turn plain sponges into decorative

Whether you’re an aspiring chef looking to develop your

the hospitality sector, our catering taster sessions are a great
opportunity to meet the teachers and support staff and gain
insight into the world of catering and hospitality. You’ll enjoy

Cyber security uncovered
Want to get a feel for what it’s like to work as a cyber security
professional? This interactive taster session will let you
experience building and testing a computer network and
simulating cyber security attack on a computer network.

Try your hand at being a software engineer, who in the
industry would design, build and test computer systems that
help organisations and equipment to work more effectively.
You’ll be able to code programs using industry standard
programming languages, program and control Lego
Mindstorm robots, develop interactive webpages by coding
in HTML and CSS, create mobile phone applications and
develop game animations.

Alexa, what is emerging tech?
Understand how the use of emerging technology is changing

an interest in virtual reality or you want to programme a
voice-activated device, this taster session is perfect for

programming an Amazon Alexa.

Try a trade
Fancy a career or apprenticeship in construction, but not
sure which trade to choose?
Try your hand at one of four trade skills; electrical, joinery,
bricklaying or plumbing in our taster sessions.
Under the expert guidance of our teaching team, try wiring
and energising a lighting circuit, form and make a timber
joint, lay some bricks to build a wall, have a go at cutting and
bending copper pipe then soldering on a fitting. You can have
a go at one or all of these options.

to Early Years and Health and Social.
Life as an early years student
Experience fun activities with an insight into what a day in
the life of a Gateshead College early years student is really
like. We’ll introduce you to our interactive babies and show
you around our on-site nursery where much of your time
at college will be spent getting real-world experience. You’ll
also meet our teaching team who’ll be able to answer any
questions you may have.
Care for a career in care?
Did you know the highest growth area in the jobs market is
within the health and social care sector? There has never
been a better time to consider a career in this industry.
This hands-on taster session will give you a real experience
of what it’s like to study health and social care. Explore 4D
technology, find out where things are in the body and take
part in fun and interactive communication exercises. Find out
about work experience placements and meet our friendly
teaching team. You can also find out about the different
career options available at the end of courses from nursing
and social work to counselling and criminology.

Whether you’re interested in music production, performing arts, dance, or
anything in between, come along to one of our music and performing arts
sessions. Each one includes lunch as well as a tour of our fantastic facilities
(including The Sage Gateshead for certain courses) and the opportunity to
meet our expert team so you can ask any questions you may have about any

Calling all budding music producers! Come and take part
in creative workshops in our state-of-the-art music studios

Ambassador masterclass
Take part in a variety of sport sessions delivered by our
Academy for Sport ambassadors.
Find out more about the practical and theory sides of our
courses, as well as being given the opportunity to meet your
new team mates and coaches.
Coach the coach
Do you currently play for a local sports team? Come along
with your coach and find out more about strength and
conditioning in sports including football, rugby, netball,
basketball and boxing. Whilst your coach gains some new
ideas and works closely alongside our experienced academy
coaches in our highly equipped strength and conditioning
gym, you’ll be able to have a go at your chosen sport and find
out more about our range of courses.
