SEVEN LAKES EYE CARE
PROVIDES SERVICES TO
RESIDENTS IN COSTA RICA
A team of four from Dr. Kavanaugh’s
Seven Lakes Eye Care office located
in Seven Lakes along with 13 others
from Christ Community Church
traveled to the slums in Guarari,
Costa Rica to provide eyecare and
Rx glasses to residents.
This was a mission trip which
involved providing eye care to
approximately 500 residents living
in this impoverished area of Costa
Rica.
In Costa Rica, there are 305,231
households in poverty, and 86,663
households in extreme poverty,
according to data from the 2017
National Household Survey
(ENAHO).
Three days were spent in Guarari,
and a fourth day included a visit to
a small church by the public dump
facility in a nearby city.
The young woman pictured with the
baby, for the first time was able to
see the features of her baby. Many
had problems due to poor diet,
(mostly rice) and the overall poor
living conditions contributed to the
needs.
Dr. Barry Kavanaugh, wife Penny,
daughter Macie, and Marliss
Horsley from the Seven Lakes Eye
Care office traveled to Guarari,
Costa Rica to provide the residents
with this humanitarian service.
Peter Bishop, a resident of Seven
Lakes West accompanied the
group.
Many other volunteers as members
of the team are part of the Christ
Community Church, located in West
End and assisted in this“Global
Outreach Program.”
With thanks to U.S. Representative
Richard Hudson, North Carolina
8th Congressional District, three
American flags flown over the U.S.
Capitol on September 11, 2019 will
now fly over Seven Lakes.
Steve Hudson, a relative and Seven
Lakes resident, presented the
first flag to the Seven Lakes Fire
Department.
The remaining two flags were given
to the SLLA Board of Directors and
will be flown at the North and South
gates.
The 9/11 flag program was started
in remembrance of those who lost
their lives at the World Trade Center,
Pentagon, and the Shanksville,
Pennsylvania site.
The flags were also flown in honor of
all of those first responder heroes
who risked their lives to shepherd
survivors to safety on that tragic
day.
The flags represent the 2,977
victims of the September 11, 2001
attacks on the World Trade Center,
Pentagon, United Airlines Flight 93
and First Responders. It is a great
honor to have these special flags fly
in our community.
Trivia Winners Tie
The group from Seven Lakes Eye
Care and several others provided
everyone in attendance with at
least one pair of glasses, whether
it be a pair of sunglasses, readers
or custom made glasses.
The need was great.
