Ed Hill‘s forecast prevailed and the event enjoyed sunny skies and no rain to help provide for a large crowd hat attended the Chili Cookoff ! It was a great day with lots of fun for the entire family. You can view videos of the event @ www.Visit910.com Seven lakes Garden Club Seven Lakes Garden Club made a mini Field Trip to McLendon Hills to the home of Chuck and Dorrie Kayser and their horses. Those two horses produce fifty pounds of waste product every day. Chuck has developed a wonderful system for composting the organic waste so that it can be spread on their pastures with no negative impact to the surrounding ecosystem. Chuck uses the O2Compost system developed in 2001. Chuck (with shovel) talks to SLGC. Simple to operate and convert a waste problem into a resource opportunity. The Aerated Static Pile compost method optimizes the process and mitigates problems such as odor, flies and adverse impacts to water quality. He can then use the ultra-rich compost on his garden or sell it in 40 lb bags. Garden Club members eagerly purchased many bags from his stock! Chuck and Dorrie feed and bed their horses with 100% organic materials. Healthy horses and great compost. Community Scene November Edition Page B 3 Avenue Of Flags Field Of Honor Many Thanks to all of the Volunteers that have devoted their time to our communiy, Ed Hill, the Kiwanis Club Jerry Sink, Jim Haggard, Bill Pratt, Seven Lakes Fire Departent, Bill Hicks, Sam Ransdell, Steven Loomis, the Birdsell Family and all the others too numerous to list here... It was a glorious day to celebrate Veterans Day in West End, It was standing room only as hundreds of people attended the event held by the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 966. Their motto is “Helping Veterans, Communities and Those Serving in Harm‘s Way.“ The Chapel in the Pines with the Seven Lakes Fire Department, First Bank, the NS Homeowners Assoc, Seven Lakes News, area friends, and neighbors has taken on the mission of assisting a long-time resident, suffering from ALS, or as it is better known, Lou Gehrig Disease. Matt Northcutt-- Benefit November 16th Matt Northcutt, 44, long time resident of Seven Lakes, became a First Responder, and with his wife Tammy are raising their three young children in Seven Lakes. He became one of the first Policemen on the Seven Lakes Force, then joined the Fire Company, drove the ambulance, and finally, became an EMT. While a volunteer EMT he was employed by the NC State Employment Security Commission working with farmers in up to five surrounding counties. He had to resign from the Fire· Company when his ALS progressed. The State eventually gave him a handicapped equipped van in order to continue working with those farmers. Recently he had to resign from that job. Then Tammy, who worked for First Health Family Medicine in Seven Lakes, had to resign to assist Matt at home. This leaves them without an income, but with medical bills and living expenses. Our Mission is to hold a Benefit for Matt on November 16th from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm, at the Chapel in the Pines and we are looking for donations from our local businesses to add to our Silent Auction on that day. We already have some baskets donated by Seven Lakes businesses and residents and are looking for whatever you have in your heart to donate to help us assist Matt and Tammy meet their medical expenses. It is our hope we can raise at least $10,000 to assist them, but can only do it with the help of the Community. We need to show this young family our appreciation for all they have given us during their young lives. Can you, will you help us? Blessings on you all...
