[Facebook photo] news briefs BALLWIN Budget trades sought to meet city’s needs St. Louis-born, New York Yankees’ Hallof-Fame catcher Yogi Berra would often say, “It’s like déjà vu all over again!” That phrase aptly describes items from the last two Ballwin Board of Aldermen meetings. On Oct. 28, the Ballwin Police Department changed its early 2019 order for a pair of Ford Explorers to Dodge Durangos. At the Nov. 11 meeting, Ballwin’s Public Works Department made its own order switch due to a vehicle not being ready on time. “What we have here, in short, is that we ordered a two-ton truck earlier this year, and the two-ton truck will not be able to be delivered by Dec. 31,” Public Works Director Jim Link said. “So, what we’re asking to do is basically defer the body and bed for the two-ton truck and then purchase the skid-steer that we asked for in the 2020 budget. As you can see, the skid-steer total of $45,321.42 and the [truck] body, bed and hydraulics total $51,937. We’ll also be looking to add the salt spreader and the plow to our vehicle before Dec. 31.” City Administrator Bob Kuntz was quick to reflect back to that Oct. 28 meeting item. “It’s a similar problem that we had with the police cars,” Kuntz said. “So, we’re essentially not asking for additional funds whatsoever. We’re going for the expedient route to flip the two pieces.” The motion passed unanimously. So did the other staff report, asking for Ballwin to add another five-year contract regarding the Emergency Communications Agreement with St. Louis County that ends this Dec. 31. CHESTERFIELD Council discusses second phase for Fienup Farms At its regular meeting on Nov. 18, the Chesterfield City Council held a first reading for the second phase of the 223-acre development known as Fienup Farms, located north of Wild Horse Creek Road and east of Long Road. Wild Horse Residential, LLC, submitted a request for four record plats of the Planned Unit Development [PUD] that would establish the remaining 97 lots in the development. Fienup Farms features five St. Louis home builders, including Consort Homes, Fischer & Frichtel, Prestige Custom Homes, Claymont Development and McBride Homes. When completed, the master planned community will include 223 single-family luxury homes, ranging from the $400’s to over $2 million. Onsite amenities will include a 26-acre lake with paddle boat dock and fishing docks, over 50 acres of common ground, four pickle ball courts, walking trails, pavilions, public restroom facilities, a fire pit with seating, community garden, playground, and two lots for smaller children. On Oct. 28, the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval of the record plats and escrow agreements. A second reading and potential vote for approval by the council is scheduled for the next meeting Dec. 2. CREVE COEUR 39 North Greenways draft plan open for review In early 2018, the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, along with the Great Rivers Greenway District, commissioned a study to identify possible alignments for the 39 North Greenway in Creve Coeur. The development of a greenway to serve the 39 North District and to connect to the surrounding areas, including the Centennial Greenway, was a goal of the 39 North Master Plan, which was adopted in 2017. The 39 North Greenways Draft Plan is now available for public review. The City Council scheduled a joint work session with the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Parks and Historic Preservation Committee on Nov. 25 to review the plan and provide comments and questions with the consultants. The Planning and Zoning Commission will then consider the plan for adoption as a component of the comprehensive plan and in support of the continued development of the 39 North District, in the same manner as the 39 North Master Plan and the Old Olive Great Street Plan. The public hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission is currently scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16. at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit creve-coeur. org. ELLISVILLE Ellisville officer recognized for crisis mitigation On Nov. 13, Corporal Ryan Schneider with the Ellisville Police Department was recognized by the St. Louis Area Crisis Intervention Team [CIT] Coordinating Council as a 2019 Outstanding CIT Officer. Schneider was nominated for the award for his efforts in helping a citizen suffering from a dangerous mental health crisis. Over the course of three weeks, the Ellisville Police Department logged 10 calls from an individual who expressed fears that neighbors were talking behind his back, spying on him or conspiring to shoot him. The individual had even shut off the main power to his apartment and wanted to confront his neighbors with police assistance. The man had suffered from a head injury in the past, took several prescriptions and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Upon recognizing the crisis, Schneider helped the individual connect to professional behavioral health response resources and did follow-up visits to check on the resident’s mental health afterward. The mission of the St. Louis Area Crisis Intervention Team is to deliver positive law enforcement crisis intervention service to people with mental illness in the St. Louis area by providing cooperative community partnerships between law enforcement agencies, mental health service providers, consumers, families, and advocates. MANCHESTER City updates deer removal policy The city of Manchester has arranged with a service provider to remove and dispose of dead deer from residential properties as well as city-owned properties and roadways. This city-provided service does not cover deer carcasses located on commercial property, and deer carcasses located on roadways maintained by MoDOT or St. Louis County are typically picked up by those departments. Residents can report a deer carcass 24 hours a day, seven days a week by contacting the police department records clerk at (636) 227-1385, ext. 102. Callers should provide a specific address and location information pertaining to the carcass. If a carcass is located on residential or subdivision property, the property owner or a trustee must give verbal permission for city staff or a service provider to enter the property to remove it. WILDWOOD City receives top ranking for family environment The city of Wildwood was recently ranked at the top of the list of best places to raise a family in Missouri in 2019 by Niche.com, a review site that provides nationwide rankings based on U.S. schools and neighborhood data. Giving Wildwood an “A+” overall, Niche. com ranked the city according to a variety of factors such as quality of schools, business and employment growth, family income, housing and crime rates.
