The traditional dirndl dress. A garment for the lady, also called dirndl – from the rural, alpine regions of
Austria, South Tyrol and Bavaria. This is how it began back in the 18th century. At that time the fine society
ladies already understood perfectly that this garment could be very decorous, and is not only a dress for
servants on the farm. This is where the dirndl garment – today called "dirndl" for short – has its origins and
found its way into all social classes and wardrobes.
