Pilar walkway
open
A LONG battle by Pilar
area residents for a pedestrian
bridge over the
N-332 finally came to fruition
with last Sunday´s official
opening of a walkway
linking Torre de la
Horadada with the urban
areas of Pilar.
The new structure for pedestrians
and cyclists will
avoid years of people making
a risky journey over the road

bridge which had no provision
for them at all.
Early users of the walkway
were a group of women
protesting against gender
violence.

SCHOOL children in the San Pedro
del Pinatar area have once been
given gifts of school materials
from ADAPT(Association of English
Speakers of San Pedro), including
books in English.
All the cash was raised by ADAPT´s
“Tonne of Money” campaign in which
members were asked to save their
small brown coins throughout the year.
Pictured are three of the group´s
members, along with staff from the
Nuestra Señora del Carmen primary
school in Lo Pagán, with five other
schools also set to benefit from the
fund-raising.

THE Royal British Legion
Concert Band Spain is
going from strength to
strength after being together
for over a year, and
it now has 18 members.
The group is not resting
on its laurels and is looking
for more musicians to join it,
including string instrument
players so that it can offer a
full concert experience.
The band has its local
roots evolving from the Alpengold
Oompah Band; the
Vega Baja Big Band; and the
Phoenix Concert Band.
Rehearsals, under musical
director David Last,
take place every Tuesday
afternoon from 4.00pm at
the Sophia Wellness Centre
in La Regia, and play wideranging
repertoire.
Recent events for the band
have included last month´s
Poppy Appeal launch in
Benidorm, as well special
remembrance services at Mil
Palmeras and Torrevieja.
The next date in the diary
is the annual open-air Torrevieja
carol concert, Carols in
the Square, which will take
place on Friday December
13th, when they will be joined
by singers from various local
groups.
The band will be dedicating
the evening to founder
member Bill Singleton, who
died earlier in the year.
