LYNNETTE SANMIGUEL KING KANINE
Are you a dog or a cat person? And
how do you think that helps you in
business?
I gravitate towards dogs because of
my allergies to cats. However, I would
consider my soul to be with all animals.
I realized my purpose in life, at a very
young age, and have always known that
I wanted to be around them and/or
work in the animal industry. As a child,
I read and studied dog breeds so that is
my little secret that most people don’t
know but it has helped me understand
the needs of breeds which in turn help
explain them to their owners.
What do you look for most in a
teammate?
A great teammate will be open to
learning, have patience, be self-less,
accountable and have a true passion
for pets. Many times, ego is involved
in our decisions and if we can be
conscious enough to understand
and change that, we can make better
decisions and be a better team player
an overall better person.
What do you
love most about
your business?
I absolutely
love trade shows
and being around
all sorts of pet
products and of
course the many
dogs I get to
play with. The
minute I see one
my attention
immediately
directs me to
them regardless
of what I am
doing. Not always
a good thing but I
can’t help it.
How did a pet
influence your
business?
Our business
was created due
to my partners
Great Dane, Mojo’s, shedding problem.
His short dense coat became so much
of a problem that Jeff, my partner,
decided to make his own de-shedding
tool, the King Komb, since other similar
products didn’t help and so the King
Komb was designed to help with
his problem. Now we have an entire
company, with 16 products, that can
tell the story of how a very special big
boy brought us together.
What trait do you possess that
serves you best in business?
I believe my ability to be detailed
oriented serves my team the best. I am
the behind the scenes kind of person
that takes care of many little things that
are needed to run a business, but most
forget about them. I have a very good
memory so that also comes in handy!
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership is knowing & deciding
what to do at the right time even
though you aren’t sure what to do but
you evoke the confidence and poise
needed to decide. It is treating all
members of your team, or those you
meet, with the same respect. Favorite
quote “Make it hard to spot the general
by working like a soldier”
