He also invited all residents to the 2020 annual Township meeting which must by law happen on a Tuesday in April after 6 p.m. Lisa McDonald, president of Wilmette Library Update The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of a Wilmette resident as a suicide. The resident was taken to North Shore University Evanston Hospital and was pronounced dead there as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Wilmette Police Department. Reported earlier A person was shot at 5:27 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue, according to the Wilmette Police Department. Board of Trustees, addressed her organization’s priorities and challenges. She highlighted the importance of the WPL as a community resources with its wide variety of programs and the only bookstore in Wilmette. McDonald listed parking and improving online access as top current challenges. He discussed the role of the Village as a “service provider,” and focused on infrastructure including village roads and sewer systems, economic development including the early stages of proposed development on Central Ave/ Green Bay Road and the exploration of opportunities for Edens Plaza, and the state of the Village’s finances. He also listed the stormwater project as a major challenge for the coming few years. After the speakers concluded their remarks, they took questions from the audience moderated by League members. These questions ranged from green initiatives to addressing how new cannabis laws will affect Wilmette to requests for additional information about the stormwater plan and its impact on parks. A younger audience member asked if the students from the schools who use the parks can have input on how they would like the parks to look after the completion of the installation of the stormwater tanks. As other customers entered, they lost track of the offender and later realized he had left his old shoes behind and allegedly departed with the sandals. WILMETTE Dec. 1 • A customer told police that while having lunch between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at Panera Bread, 1199 Wilmette Ave., an unknown person stole her wallet from her unattended purse. Nov. 29 • A person reported that an unknown offender(s) opened a checking account with CitiBank at 5:26 p.m. Nov. 26 using their personal information. All items were recovered and returned to Walgreens. • Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, reported that at 10:27 a.m. Nov. 27, an unknown black male entered the store and loaded a backpack with $360.86 worth of Head and Shoulders. The offender left the store and entered Chevy sedan prior to the officers arrival. • Juviel St. Clair, 39, of need a little extra compassion, families happily donated toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and more. Then, on the morning of the Nov. 16, little ones set up assemblyline style, eager to fill bags with the donated items. The act of kindness was not the first time the WCNS community has committed themselves to helping others. Last spring, they hosted a book drive for Bookwallah — giving children who have faced trauma the chance to escape through magical and uplifting books and fairytales. They regularly donate to Bernie’s Book Chicago, was arrested after a traffic stop at 3:49 p.m. Nov. 27 in the 300 block of Ridge Road. An officer stopped a white 2017 Dodge Caravan for traffic violation(s) and discovered the driver, St. Clair, had a suspended driver’s license. Village From Page 3 Trustee Senta Plunkett concurred with Bielinski’s thoughts on the operations portion of the levy and was also pleased with the pensions portion of the levy. “The fact that our pension increase is only threequarters of a percent, that was because of staff and the finance committee looking at pensions trying to find creative ways to pay that,” she said. “Staff and this board have really tried to decrease the property tax levy increase as much as possible. The 1.43% in operations is really extraordinary.” The estimated average fee and tax increase for 2020 is $247, including $90 for the tax levy, $13 for the sewer rate and $144 for the stormwater fee.
