Devon Bolger looks into how some of the major projects are going <strong>Selwyn</strong> Aquatic Centre extension The approved budget for the project is $14.8 million of which $1.1 million has been allocated for a café facility. The expansion of the aquatic centre will include a new 10- lane, 25m pool to help ease additional demand for lessons and recreational swimming and an upgrade of the management/ administration space. Contractors Armitage Williams have completed the piles for the new extension. The proposed five-week shutdown for January 2020 will not be occurring. The building programme allows for much of the work to be completed out of hours or staged. The urgent heat pump replacement will be undertaken March 2020. One shutdown which is unavoidable due to power outage will be a maximum of one day. The next steps are continuing foundations for the new extension and the new family changing rooms. The new facility extension will be completed <strong>December</strong> 2020 and construction complete second quarter 2021. Rolleston Library and Community Centre (Te Ara Atea) The approved budget for the project is $22.2 million. It will see the construction of a new innovative library and community centre which will be an anchor for the Rolleston town centre. Building consent has now been obtained and enabling works and site set up commenced in November. The superstructure will be carried out from <strong>December</strong> <strong>2019</strong>. The next step is to carry on with the initial phases of construction. Construction of the programme is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021. Foster Park indoor courts The approved budget for the project is $21 million budget The new indoor court complex and changing room/toilet facilities will service the outside fields at Foster Park. Apollo Projects were appointed as lead contractor for the design and build. Design around internal layout proceeding in conjunction with the district council community services team and is virtually complete. The next step is the progression of the developed and detailed design work. The opening of the facility is expected during the second quarter of 2021. Foster Park changing rooms and public toilets The approved budget for the project is $1.7 million. It includes a new changing room complex located at the Dynes Rd end of Foster Park which includes, two premier change rooms and four standard change rooms, two official rooms, six public toilets. There will also be a standalone Permaloo public toilet to service the southwest corner of Foster Park. Construction is progressing on site. The roof has been completed with internal fitout progressing. Installation of the Permaloo for the separate public toilet building is complete. The next steps are finishing the internal fitouts and concrete apron. The changing rooms are expected to be completed in <strong>December</strong>. Seismic strengthening of Sheffield Hall The approved budget for the project is $289,000. It will see the seismic strengthening of the hall and building code compliance. Work has been completed and the building now handed over to the district council operations team and Sheffield-Waddington Community committee. The next step is the planning of an opening celebration by the committee. Tourism Infrastructure Fund projects The district council received $267,800 in round two of the Tourism Infrastructure Fund. This covers approximately 50 per cent of the $535,469 total cost of the projects. All of the planned projects have now been largely completed, they are: - Arthur’s Pass public toilet effluent system upgrade - Dunsandel public toilet expansion and upgrade - Rakaia Gorge public toilet wastewater system upgrade - Campervan waste water dump stations in Glentunnel, Lake Coleridge Village, Tai Tapu, and Leeston - Kowai Pass Domain facilities upgrade EXTENSION: An artist’s impression of the planned <strong>Selwyn</strong> Aquatic Centre extension that will include a new 10-lane 25m pool, café facility and administration space. The district council has been successful with an application for TIF round 3. The following projects have obtained funding support: Upgrade of the Coes Ford toilets wastewater system – district council received $33,250 contribution plus $6,400 to cover operating costs for two years. Lakeside Domain Toilet Capacity Enhancement – This project involves installation of a new toilet block with 8 pans plus a wastewater holding tank - district council received $200,000 contribution plus $46,400 for operating and maintenance costs over two years. Springston Public Toilets – district council received $63,750 contribution plus $13,600 to cover operating costs for two years. Work is currently underway on design and procurement for these projects. There is a backlog in supply of modular toilet units as a result of national demand which means the toilet projects will not be completed until early next year.
