OWL Cymru—Please be Vigilant

Following a number of incidents reported in the Lixwm area recently Police are asking residents to be

vigilant and to report any suspicious persons, or activity, to Police as soon as possible

Here are some simple tips to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime:

· Always close and lock your doors and windows when you are not at home

· Remember to set your intruder alarm when going out, if you have one

· Close and lock doors of rooms you are not using while at home

· Don’t leave patio or conservatory doors and windows open or unlocked

· Make sure your regular bedtime routine includes locking up the house

· Don't hide spare keys under flowerpots or doormats - these are places burglars will check

· Keep keys out of sight and out of reach - don't leave them in their locks

· Good lighting on the outside of your property is a great deterrent - Police recommend LED lighting that

stays on from dusk till dawn, which is often powered by a photocell

· Display warning signs that your house has anti-burglary measures in place, as a deterrent

· Set up a Neighbourhood Watch in your area. An active watch scheme is a great deterrent.

Looking after valuable property

· Don’t leave valuable property such as bicycles, tools, jewellery, Christmas presents, or gadgets out where

they can be seen

· Keep photographs of valuable items so they can be identified if stolen and then recovered

Security mark electrical items and other valuable property – this should increase your chances of being

reunited with your property should you become a victim of burglary, and can also discourage a burglar

from stealing the item in the first place.

DOORSTEP COLD CALLERS

We would like to remind residents that purchasing or using the services of cold callers

can be risky for numerous reasons. If something goes wrong with the service, or

product, they may prove difficult to trace. Some traders will quote a price but then ask

for substantially more money when the job has been completed.

Some work can be carried out and completed to a poor, or even unsafe

standard.

Some cold callers are also linked to burglaries, or other criminal activity. Police are asking for

residents to be vigilant and wary when dealing with cold callers at the door and to report any

suspicious persons or activity to them as soon as possible.

Please pass this information onto older, or more vulnerable neighbours as they may get targeted.

Reputable, local traders can be found via North Wales Trading Standards Services ‘Buy With Confidence’

Scheme https://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk

We have received a report of cold callers at around 7pm in the Chambers Lane area of Mynydd Isa on 17th

December. The callers claimed to be from a religious group. We would like to remind residents to be wary

with cold callers at their door and to report anything suspicious to Police.

Action Fraud is the UK’s national reporting Centre for fraud and cybercrime where

you should report fraud if you have been scammed, defrauded or experienced

cyber crime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. If you report anything to them

please let us know so we can alert others, to raise awareness, and to prevent

people from becoming a victim of fraud.

SCAM E MAILS and TEXTS

.

At this time of year, stores slash their prices, leaving people fearing they’re missing

out if they don't hand over card details. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually

is. Check reviews, look for odd spellings & beware of fantastical welcome

offers
