OWL Crime Watch—Please lock your vehicle
CCTV footage shows the moment two men were caught on camera ransacking an unlocked
car. The incident happened at 11.48 pm last Tuesday in Llandudno, between Knowles Road
and Dyffryn Road. The video shows the two men, who look to be in their late teens, walking
down the road either side of the parked cars. They open the passenger and driver doors of the
white Ford Focus, before leaning in to "help themselves to the contents".
Once they finished, the pair decided to try their luck with the car parked behind it.
The incident comes just a week after North Wales Police's community safety central team for Conwy tweeted out a warning
to people following a rise in thefts from insecure vehicles

Police updates
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit were on duty in the Bangor area Wednesday
night , February 5 th when they received anonymous information about a man driving a
BMW with blue flashing lights. Vehicle checks were carried out and the car was traced
nearby parked on Caernarfon Road with the driver still inside.
He was spoken to and officers found blue flashing lights fitted in the front grill.
The 25-year-old man was issued with a TOR (Traffic Offence Report) for having a vehicle fitted with an unauthorised
warning beacon. Further checks were carried out and the driver was also found to be driving
with no insurance so the car was seized.
PC Daniel Owen of the Roads Policing Unit said: “This was an unusual incident whereby we received an
anonymous tip off that a man was driving with blue lights fitted onto his car. It was just by chance that we
came across the car parked with the driver still inside. He admitted to having the blue lights and showed
them illuminated.
If you get just six points in the first two years after passing your test you will lose your licence.

Police updates cont…
“We were told the blue lights were ‘just for show’ however he was issued with a ticket. Unfortunately he
had no insurance either so his car was seized.
“To make matters worse he’s been driving for less than two years and it is likely he will now lose his licence
due to the six penalty points.”
Notes:
Only emergency vehicles can display blue lights so it is an offence if your vehicle has any LED or neon
under-vehicle lighting system emitting a blue light. Motorists found with these could receive a fine or be
reported

DOORSTEP COLD CALLERS
We would like to remind residents that purchasing or using the services of cold callers
can be risky for numerous reasons. If something goes wrong with the service, or
product, they may prove difficult to trace. Some traders will quote a price but then ask
for substantially more money when the job has been completed.
Some work can be carried out and completed to a poor, or even unsafe
standard.
Some cold callers are also linked to burglaries, or other criminal activity. Police are asking for
residents to be vigilant and wary when dealing with cold callers at the door and to report any
suspicious persons or activity to them as soon as possible.
Please pass this information onto older, or more vulnerable neighbours as they may get targeted.
Reputable, local traders can be found via North Wales Trading Standards Services ‘Buy With Confidence’
Scheme https://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk

DOORSTEP COLD CALLERS cont...
We would like to remind residents that due to the bad weather recently, traders may start cold calling
offering to repair damage to property that might have occurred due to the rain, wind and flooding, such as
fallen trees and guttering. The traders might say they can do the job immediately and for a cash amount.
We would like to advise residents, to avoid employing cold callers to carry out such important work. The
work may not be of good quality and may cause more damage. If you notice damage to your property caused
by adverse weather, it is advisable to use your house insurance or use a reputable trader as found in the
Trading Standards approved ‘Buy With Confidence ‘ scheme. No Cold Calling stickers are available to purchase,
varying sizes. Visit the OWL Protect website for more information https://www.owlprotectcymru.org/
