the wine is always pouring & the coffee’s always onGuests will feel right athome when they step insidethe quaint shop and bistro thatis Willow Spring Mercantile.The Mercantile, owned byJim and Daphne Bowman,has been a staple of thedowntown for over adecade. Walking in the brickstorefront, you’re transportedinto a world of wine and food,smiles and great conversation.On any given day you mightbe treated to the ambientsounds of Jim’s guitar playing while you sampleone of the over 300 Missouri wines availablein the shop. Besides wine, other items for saleinclude beer, coffees, teas, food mixes, appareland other novelty items.Through the shop and down the stairs is WillowSpring’s Bistro, open daily for lunch and twice amonth for dinner. Dishes are made with real, freshand locally sourced ingredients, with substitutionsavailable for those with food sensitivites. Menuitems include appetizers such as the seasonalfruit and cheese plate or red pepper hummus,salads like the almond caesar,flatbread pizzas, specialtysandwiches and wraps, anddecadent homemade desserts.On weekends, live music fromlocal musicians will fill the air.Second Weekends indowntown Excelsior Springsbrings extended hours to TheMercantile and live music allthree days. Second Weekendsis a downtown event that takesplace the second weekend ofeach month where businessesstay open later and often include special guestsand promotions.Another popular monthly WIllow Springoccurrence is the coveted Four-Course WineDinner. This ticketed event features a MissouriWinery joining Jim, Daphne and other guestsfor a gourmet four-course meal accompanied byfour select Missouri wines to compliment eachcourse. On agirls weekend, we had adelightful lunch; enjoyed2 flatbread pizzas &the recommended winepairings were spot on (amargherita with a vignole& a pear gorgonzolawith a Chardonnay/viognier blend) . Thebread pudding dessertwas topped with peachesfrom the owner's trees!And we went backfor brunch on the firststop of the #estrolleywine tour.
