Theseinstitutions will determine the appropriate accommodationsbased on their policies/procedures.College Board Accommodations forStudents with DisabilitiesCollege Board can allow students with disabilities to useaccommodations in exams including SAT and AP exams if it isshown that these students’ disabilities affect their testparticipation. Parents/guardians of a student with a disability caninitiate requests for accommodations for College Board testsincluding SAT and AP exams by contacting Campus Section504/Special Education Coordinator and track the receipt of suchrequests. Campus Section 504/Special Education Coordinatorprocesses the accommodations request for eligible students fromCollege Board by submitting the required documentation.Parents/Guardians need to be aware that if their child’s conditionchanges and they have additional documents to submit, theyshould inform the Campus Section 504/Special EducationCoordinator in a timely manner so that the new request can besubmitted to College Board to allow enough time to process therequest before the actual test date. It can take about seven weeksfor an accommodation request to be processed by College Board.PSAT/NMSQT (High School)Harmony Public Schools is dedicated to providing acomprehensive college preparatory program that facilitates eachstudent’s ambition to pursue higher education at the nation’s topuniversity and colleges. The most common reason for taking thePSAT/NMSQT is to receive feedback on student strengths andweaknesses so that students can focus their preparation on thoseareas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.This test also gives a student chance to enter National MeritScholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.Honor Graduate Certificate (HighSchool)The Texas Education Agency allows each public high school inTexas one “Honor Graduate Certificate.” This certificate will bepresented to the highest-ranking graduate in the senior class. Therecipient will receive a certificate and a declaration documentauthorizing the president of any state supported college oruniversity to provide a waiver for tuition as specified in TexasEducation Code § 54.201.The recipient of this honor must:Be enrolled in Harmony Public Schools for a minimum of threeconsecutive calendar semesters prior to graduation and meetstate andBe graduating under either the Recommended DistinguishedGraduation Program; andBe the highest-ranking graduate with the highest GPA of allstudents meeting these criteria, with not less than acumulative 3.7 GPA. Under no condition will the GPA berounded up.All calculations for this honor will be conducted at the end of thespring semester (before graduation) each school calendar year. Aneligible student must have attended at least one of the calendarsemesters during the school year that the honor is granted.The new graduation plan mandated by House Bill 5 is called TheFoundation High School Program, which is intended to providestudents with more flexibility. Students who are freshmen in 2014-2015 will be the first class to fall under the graduationrequirements in HB5. Students who are in grades 9th, 10th, or11th in the 2013-2014 school year must be given a choice tograduate on the MHSP, RHSP, DAP, or Foundation High SchoolProgram.National Honor Society, National JuniorHonor Society, and National ElementaryHonor SocietyEvery chapter (school) might have different qualifications formembership. At minimum, high school students who havemaintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 are eligible for nominationto the school’s local chapter of the National Honor Society.Students seeking admission should contact the sponsor foradmission guidelines. The student must have been enrolled in thecurrent school for at least one semester. Selection formembership is based upon a student’s evidence of scholarship,service, citizenship, leadership, and character. Selection will bemade by a faculty council appointed by the Principal. Disciplinereferrals and excessive absences will constitute evidence ofdeficiencies in character and leadership. Service contributions aredetermined by completion of a service form by the nominee andscored by the faculty council. Induction is held only once duringeach academic year.Distinguished honor and honor students at middle grades mayapply for National Junior Honor Society and elementary studentsmay apply for National Elementary Honor Society.High School Graduation RequirementsIn order for a student to graduate from Harmony Public School,the student must fulfill:HPS High School Credit RequirementsPassing Score on Texas State Assessments (STAAR)Proof of admission by a 4-Year CollegeMinimum 100 Community Service Hours** 25 hours per year for transfer students48 | Revised in July 2019
House Bill 5 and New GraduationRequirements4th Science CourseEndorsement Area Coursework (see endorsement section)In the spring of 2013, the 83rd Texas Legislature passed House Bill5, which made substantial changes to the state’s curriculum andgraduation requirements, assessment program, andaccountability system.Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, each student, onentering ninth grade, must indicate in writing an endorsementthat the student intends to earn.
