THAI DECOR CELEBRATING

20 YEARS IN PATTAYA

Thai Decor first opened its showroom

doors on Thepprasit Road, Pattaya

20 years ago. It soon established an

extensive customer base with its vast

selection of original antiques and good

quality furniture, along with Thai and

Asian art and designs.

All the products are original and

most are antiques with no reproduction

furniture. Prices range from 2,000 to

20,000 Baht.

There’s a large selection of sculpture,

wooden and marble, lacquer,

and silver, and also a wide variety of

paintings, all within an affordable price

range.

Thai Decor was established by Roger

Mynott, whose background is in all

things antique with his original business

back in the U.K. Roger’s expert

knowledge when it comes to antiques

is a huge contributing factor to the success

of Thai Décor, since he knows the

products that are genuine and worthy of

a place in his showroom.

Recently Roger has taken a back

seat in the business due to illness, so

his partner, Khun Nok, with her years of

experience at the showroom on Thepprasit

Road, now runs the day to day

operation at Thai Decor with the help of

her two sons.

Thai Decor are now embarking on a

major expansion of the business with

a new showroom soon to open in Soi

Welcome Town, behind the Index Living

Shopping Mall on Sukhumvit Road.

With the extra space available at this

location, bulkier antique items can be

displayed for the public to view. There

will also be a big selection of European

furniture from right across the continent.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary

Thai Decor are offering a massive 20%

Discount on all items in their showroom

so now would be a great time to visit

them and browse through the amazing

selection of furniture, sculptures, paintings,

vases, and other items on show

there.

Because they have such a huge

array of antiques of every description,

Thai Decor has something to suit every

home, whether it is a condominium or

private house.

Thai Decor on Thepprasit Road,

Pattaya is open from 10.00 am – 5.00

pm Monday to Friday, and from 10.00

am - 4.00 pm on Saturdays, or indeed

by appointment if required.

For appointments and enquiries

please phone 081 000 7664 (English)

THAILAND BUSINESS NEWS

THAILAND’S

ONLINE GROCERY

ACTIVITY

EXPECTED TO

FLOURISH

The online grocery market in

Thailand, already worth 30 billion

baht, is expected to thrive

this year. As a natural expansion

of regular e-commerce, convenience

to shoppers will be the

main driver.

In addition, factors like air

pollution and lingering concerns

about the Wuhan virus will likely

spur people into staying at home

to buy their groceries online using

apps such as Lazada, Lineman,

Grab, and HappyFresh, which are

all expanding into the online grocery

market.

Free delivery has been a hot

selling point allowing people to

choose convenient stay-at-home

shopping methods without incurring

extra costs.

There has been co-operation

in the app space with the likes

of Lineman now partnering with

HappyFresh, a mobile app that

provides an online shopping experience

to users, connecting

them to grocery shops located

near to them.

The Chief Executive of HappyFresh,

Guillem Segarra, was

quoted as saying, "Thailand has

the highest penetration of online

grocery shopping among the

three countries in which we have

been operating.”

Currently the online grocery

market only accounts for three

percent of the total grocery market

but is expected to climb to 5

percent by 2022 and 10 per cent

by 2025.

ANALYSTS

DOWNGRADE

SIAM COMMER-

CIAL BANK AS

NPL’S RISE

After reporting forth quarter results,

around a third of stock analysts

have cut their ratings of Siam

Commercial Bank Plc., (SCB),

due to apprehensions about rising

bad loan numbers.

Major ratings agencies including

JP Morgan Chase and Credit

Suisse Group AG were among

those that downgraded the bank.

Whilst SCB, one of Southeast

Asia’s largest lenders, has reaped

the cost benefits of online banking,

a flat economy has largely

been responsible for an increase

in the ratio of non-performing

loans.

Following the downgrades, the

bank’s shares suffered their largest

one-day loss in over ten years.

Yet the actions may be overdone

according to Diksha Gera,

a Bloomberg Intelligence analyst,

who suggested the bank could increase

its net margin interest to

cover the shortfall.

She was quoted as saying,

“This should put the bank in good

stead for 2020,” adding, “The bigger

risk we see is potential M&A”.

THAI AIRWAYS

MAY LEASE JETS

National carrier Thai Airways

International (THAI) is looking

at potential aircraft leasing as it

grapples with an ageing fleet. It

is also considering the possibility

of leasing some planes complete

with outsourced crew.

The airline previously announced

that it would spend 156

billion baht to buy 38 new planes.

However it is not clear if new

planes will be bought outright or

leased.

The purchase comes at a

time when, out of the company’s

82 planes, 17 will be decommissioned

in the next year

or so. It also comes just after

the airline suffered a loss

in the first 9 months of 2019.

According to THAI president,

Sumeth

Damrongchaitham,

several

options regarding

air- c r a f t

considered

by the

board.

PROPERTY OUTLOOK - THE EEC

Well this month we should look

at the Eastern Economic Corridor

(EEC) and the affect it will have on

the property market in Pattaya over

the long term.

What is the EEC?

The Eastern Economic Corridor

(EEC) is a Development Plan under

the scheme of Thailand 4.0 aiming

Main Plans

(future and ongoing)

Further develop the ports of

Map Ta Phut, Laem Chabang and

So what does this mean for the

Pattaya housing market? Well it's

all good really. Improved transport

infrastructure makes Pattaya more

new housing estates to cope with

extra employees are already being

built across the region, and

major businesses have already

moved to the area from Bangkok

due to the improved infrastructure.

For Pattaya, as the main "Entertainment

Hub" of the eastern

seaboard, this is all good news as

What does it mean practically?

The government expects US$43

billion (Thai Baht 1.5 trillion) for the

realization of the EEC over the next

five years (from 2018 onwards).

This funding will come from a mix

of state funds, public-private partnerships

attractive from a tourism perspective

for sure. Add in the vast increase

When will this effect be felt?

Well already plans have been

Samsung Q950 8K QLED TV

Look, no bezel! Samsung is

pushing the boundaries of, well,

everything with its new flagship TV.

There's 8K resolution, updates to

the 8K Quantum Processor and Full

Array Local Dimming system, a new

Adaptive Picture+ mode for optimising

performance according to the

ambient light conditions, and even

a sonic equivalent, called – you

guessed it – Adaptive Picture+. But,

we're going to level with you, it's the

bezel-less, Infinity Screen design

that really sold us, Using 99% of

the front facade for the screen, and

measuring only 14.9mm deep, it's a

sublime looking television.

JBL L82 Classic speakers

CES is no longer a big focus for

hi-fi products so was great to hear

of these great new JBLs. They're a

compact two-way design, sold as

mirror-imaged pairs with each one

using a one-inch titanium dome

tweeter with an acoustic lens waveguide

and front-panel HF level attenuator.

Standing 18 inches tall, if

you're keen to make room for them,

you'll need a healthy $2500 for a

pair. And they're available in black,

blue or orange.

Technics EAH-AZ70W

wireless earbuds

True wireless earbuds were everywhere

at CES, including the

first ever pair from Technics. The

EAH-AZ70W arrive with plenty

of features,including adjustable

noise-cancellation, a free companion

app, an 18-hour battery

life, independent left/right-channel

connectivity, Ambient Mode and

IPX4-equivalent water resistance.

Lets hope they sound as good as

they look.

Sony Vision-S concept car

Sony surprised everyone at

CES, with a car! Yep. And what's

CES without some concept craziness?

Once over the initial shock

it’s easy to fall head over heels for

the wrap around display and most

importantly, the surround sound. It

is just a concept, but a very interesting

one!

And that’s the CES highglights for

another year …. Now time to get out

FOREIGN CURRENCY UPDATE

The U.S. Dollar dipped in value

but regained its footing to remain

largely flat. The DXYDollar index,

an index that measures the U.S.

Dollar’s value against a basket of

major currencies, fell from 97.50 to

96.50, before returning to 97.50.

The low of the move represents a

multi-month low. Against the Thai

baht, the rate moved from 30.22

to 29.69 and then back again. An

unusual blip on the way up stoked

speculation that the Bank of Thailand

had intervened to protect the

all-important 30.00 level, however

no press release was forthcoming.

The Pound moved from 1.3310

against the U.S. Dollar down to the

1.3050 mark and bounced around

this area for much of the time, before

dropping to 1.2965. Potential

support is seen at 1.2905, the

post-election low. Much depends

on the future trade talks between

Britain and the EU. Against the

Thai Baht, the Pound moved from

40.22 down to 39.05, before rising

back slightly to 39.70. The abnormal

move seen in the USD/THB

cross rate was also seen in the

GBP/THB pair, albeit slightly more

muted.

The U.S. Dollar vs. Japanese

Yen cross rate mirrored the USD

dollar move in almost every respect

falling from 109.77 to 108.05

before returning to 109.81. When

the Yen falls in value this indicates

dollar weakness and Yen strength

since the dollar buys less Yen.

Geo political concerns did not really

appear to affect the cross rate,

as they were relatively short lived.

Typically at times of crisis the Yen

finds bidders as it is considered a

safe haven currency. Against the

Thai baht the Yen fell from 0.2734

to 0.2712 before rising sharply to

0.2786. This high was not held

however and the Yen slowly ambled

back to the 0.2727 level.

The Russian Ruble strengthened

from 62.88 to 60.97 against

the U.S. Dollar almost in a straight

line. It did not react to dollar moves

and so this appears to be genuine

Ruble strengthening. The move is

nearly 3 per cent. There was not

much news flow to support the

move but the nature of the adjustment

suggests the possibility of

more strengthening in the future.

Against the Thai Baht the Ruble

gained in the same fashion, moving

from 0.48 to 0.495.

The Euro / U.S. Dollar exchange

rate fell from 1.1176 to

1.1081 but then moved higher

to1.1249. However the gains

couldn’t be sustained as the Dollar

rallied and the Euro fell back

to 1.1119. The ECB is likely to

continue to signal accommodative

monetary policy for the foreseeable

future. Against the Thai Baht,

The Euro was choppy, moving in

the range of 33.20 to 33.81 before

resting at 33.56.

SALES OF CONDO UNITS TO FOREIGNERS RISE

Even in spite of a strengthening

Baht, condo sales to foreigners increased

in the first nine months of

last year, albeit slightly.

The number of units sold totaled

9,427, up 1.8 per cent on the same

period the previous year.

However the value of the units

fell slightly. The total value was 35.98

billion baht, which was a drop of

5.8 percent over the same period.

The data suggests that buyers were

mainly interested in lower priced condo

units and as such, currency fluctuations

had a lower impact on their

purchases.

As well, many of the condo units

sold in the period were completions

of off-plan sales by mainly Chinese

buyers. This indicated that buyers

were not defaulting on off-plan agreements

and were honoring their original

purchase.

Acting director-general of the

Real Estate Information Center

(REIC), Vichai Viratkapan, was quoted

as saying, "Most of these condos

were booked as off-plan units more

than one year ago," adding, "Buyers

accepted the unit transfers even

though the baht strengthened against

the Yuan."

Chinese buyers were behind

57.6 per cent of all condo purchases

by foreigners, followed by Russians

who accounted for 6.6 per cent of

completions.

Bangkok saw the most sales activity

with 4,653 units sold, up 6.6%

and close to half the total. The value

was 23.15 billion baht, down 6.9%.

This represents an average

price of 4.9 million baht per unit.

There was certainly price pressure in

Bangkok and the migration to lower

price condos was seen more acutely

in the capital.

Eastern seaboard locations including

Chonburi, Pattaya, Rayong,

Sri Racha and Bang Saray came in

www.chinadaily.com

a close second with 3,505 unit

sales completed, down 2.9 per cent

on the same period the year prior.

The total value was 8.94 billion

baht, a slight fall of 1.5 per cent. This

equated to 2.55 million baht per unit.

Other regions also saw sales

activity, but were more subdued. In

Chiang Mai, 382 condos were sold to

Chinese nationals worth a total 939

million baht and in Phuket 61 condos

were sold with a total value of 252

million baht.

Europeans who were previously

the mainstay of condo purchases

have largely been absent from the

market as currencies in the UK and

Europe continue to fall in value. This

not only affects the cost of property

but also the cost of visiting Thailand,

and with many of the owners previously

buying for their own residence

or for retirement the latter point is just

as important.

Condo developers targeting Chinese

buyers will need to consider

price points as the data suggests that

these purchasers are very price conscious.

For this reason it seems that the

condo units in provinces outside of

Bangkok, along with their lower prices,

will continue to attract buyers.

FITNESS & YOU

- THE KEY TO A BETTER LIFE -

Dumbbells are the most commonly

found items in any commercial

or home gym. In the coming

months we will be detailing some

useful dumbbell exercises that can

help you build strength, core stability

and also burn fat.

Dumbbell Squat Instructions

1. Stand up straight while holding

a dumbbell on each hand (palms

facing the side of your legs).

2. Position your legs using a

shoulder width medium stance with

the toes slightly pointed out. Keep

your head up at all times as looking

down will get you off balance and

also maintain a straight back. This

will be your starting position. Note:

For the purposes of this discussion

we will use the medium stance described

above which targets overall

development; however you can

choose any of the three stances

discussed in the foot stances section.

3.Begin to slowly lower your

torso by bending the knees as you

maintain a straight posture with the

head up. Continue down until your

thighs are parallel to the floor. Tip:

If you performed the exercise correctly,

the front of the knees should

make an imaginary straight line with

the toes that is perpendicular to the

front. If your knees are past that

imaginary line (if they are past your

toes) then you are placing undue

stress on the knee and the exercise

has been performed incorrectly.

4. Begin to raise your torso as

you exhale by pushing the floor

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

with the heel of your foot mainly as

you straighten the legs again and

go back to the starting position.

5.Repeat for the recommended

amount of repetitions.

Caution: Be cautious with the

weight used; in case of doubt, use

less weight rather than more. The

squat is a very safe exercise but

only if performed properly. You may

use wrist wraps for this exercise.

Variations: As previously mentioned,

there are various stances

that can be used depending on

what you want to emphasise.

You can also use a barbell for

this exercise.

Hammer Curls Instructions

1. Stand up with your torso upright

and a dumbbell on each hand

being held at arms length. The elbows

should be close to the torso.

The Fitness Column is brought to you by:

Pattaya: 092-223-0477 / Bangkok: 02-185-1920

2. The palms of the hands

should be facing your torso. This

will be your starting position.

3. Now, while holding your upper

arm stationary, exhale and curl the

weight forward while contracting the

biceps. Continue to raise the weight

until the biceps are fully contracted

and the dumbbell is at shoulder level.

Hold the contracted position for

a brief moment as you squeeze the

biceps. Tip: Focus on keeping the

elbow stationary and only moving

your forearm.

4. After the brief pause, inhale

and slowly begin the lower the

dumbbells back down to the starting

position.

5. Repeat for the recommended

amount of repetitions.

Variations: There are many possible

variations for this movement.

For instance, you can perform the

exercise sitting down on a bench

with or without back support and

you can also perform it by alternating

arms; first lift the right arm for

one repetition, then the left, then

the right, etc.

640 BILLION BAHT TO BE SPENT

ON NEW TRANSPORT PROJECTS

According to the Mass Rapid

Transit Authority of Thailand

(MRTA), the government has earmarked

a whopping 640 billion baht

next year for new public transport

projects.

MRTA governor, Pakapong Sirikantaramas,

was quoted as saying,

"The construction of the MRT's Orange

Line between Thailand Cultural

Centre and Bang Khun Non will

require about 200 billion baht, while

the Purple Line extension from Tao

Poon to Rat Burana will cost about

100 billion baht," adding, "Additionally,

the section of the Brown Line

between Khae Rai and Lam Sali will

cost about 50 billion baht to build."

As well as new mass transit

routes in Bangkok, provincial cities

including Chang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima

and Phuket will also see

investment in electric rail systems.

A 41.7km tram system in Phuket

is currently under review by the

board of the MRTA and is expected

to cost 34 billion baht.

Mr. Pakapong was also quoted

as saying, "Once approved, the

project will be forwarded to the cabinet,

which will decide when bids for

the project will be accepted. The

tender process should begin early

next year," adding, "The trams are

expected to serve about 40,000

passengers per day, but ridership

numbers are expected to triple

once more commuters become familiar

with the route.”

Another tram system in Chiang

Mai is expected to be built at a cost

of 30 billion baht.

Nakhon Ratchasima's line is expected

to cost 8 billion baht.

Bidding for the Nakhon Ratchasima

and Chiang Mai projects is expected

to start in 2021.

As well, the brown line in Bangkok

is expected to start construction

in 2021. Currently it has been approved

by the land transport management

committee and is awaiting

cabinet approval in advance of the

bidding process.

The total being allocated to rail

infrastructure is around 422 billion

baht.

Aside from rail projects, some

of the money will be earmarked for

major roads including a new motorway

between Cha-am and Nakhon

Pathom at a cost of 80 billion baht.

Other roads include an 18km

extension of the Rama 3 -

Dao Khanong outer

ring road at a cost

of 30 billion

baht, a

n e w

el

evated toll way from Rangsit to

Bang Pa-in at a cost of 30 billion

baht and a new major road between

the Malaysian border and Hat Yai at

a cost of 42.6 billion baht.

A further 42 billion baht will be

spent on the expansion of the passenger

terminal at Suvarnabhumi

airport in order to serve the ever-increasing

number of air passengers.

AROUND THE

ASIAN REGION

MALAYSIA

UNEXPECTEDLY

CUTS INTEREST

RATES

In a surprise move, Malaysia's

central bank cut its key benchmark

interest rate by 0.25 per

cent to 2.75 per cent.

The move was designed to

safeguard economic growth and

at the same time to stimulate consumer

spending.

The central bank still expects

growth to improve, based on improved

private spending and investment.

Yet, in a statement the bank

was quoted as saying, "However,

downside risks to growth remain,"

adding, "These include

uncertainty from various trade

negotiations, geopolitical risks,

weaker-than-expected growth of

major trade partners, heightened

volatility in financial markets,

and domestic factors that include

weakness in commodity-related

sectors and delays in the implementation

of projects."

The rate cut caught analysts

off guard, with most predicting no

change. Only one analyst correctly

predicted the rate cut.

NETFLIX TO AIR

JAPANESE

ANIMATED FILMS

Netflix has agreed to air 21

Japanese animated films from

Studio Ghibli.

The move comes as Netflix

faces ever-increasing competition

from the likes of Apple and Disney

as well as new players entering

the video on demand market.

The films will include Studio

Ghibli’s Oscar winning movie

‘Spirited Away’, as well as ‘Kiki's

Delivery Service’, ‘Arrietty’ and

‘Princess Mononoke’.

Studio Ghibli, co-founded by

animator Hayao Miyazaki, is considered

Japan's leading animation

studio.

The films will be released between

February and April of 2020,

will be subtitled in 28 languages

and will be available worldwide,

except in the United States, Canada,

and curiously, Japan.

Studio Ghibli producer Toshio

Suzuki, was quoted as saying,

"We've listened to our fans and

have made the definitive decision

to stream our film catalogue."

SOUTH

KOREA’S

ECONOMIC

GROWTH SLOWS

South Korea’s growth rate

came in at the slowest pace in a

decade. The growth rate was 2

per cent year on year, down from

2.7 per cent the year before.

The Bank of Korea indicated

that lower semi conductor prices

were in part to blame. In a statement,

it was quoted as saying

"While the growth of government

consumption expanded, construction

and facilities investment contracted

as private consumption

expenditure and export growth

slowed.”

There has been some disapproval

of government policies

such as minimum wage increases,

which have lead to decreased

employment opportunities even

for well-educated young people,

and lower profit margins for companies.

Export markets were showing

signs of slowing. Export shipments

posted only 1.5% growth,

versus 3.5% the year before.

To help redress the slowing

growth numbers, the government

is expected to boost public spending

by 9.1 per cent in 2020 and

to release 30 per cent of its infrastructure

budget in the first quarter

of this year.

GETTING A BRITISH

PASSPORT FOR YOUR

THAI CHILD

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

As a British Citizen when you

have a baby with a foreign partner,

your baby is also entitled to a

British Passport. There are some

countries which don’t allow dual

nationality but Thailand and UK

both allow their citizens to be dual

passport holders. So, in most cases

your baby will be eligible for a

British passport.

There is quite a lot of paperwork

to be collated so as soon as

you find out your partner is pregnant

start finding out the documents

you need as some things

may need to be sent from overseas

or copies obtained.

You must supply two color

photographs of the baby and it is

best to use a professional photography

shop who are experienced

in taking passport photos for babies

(if the child is very young)

as the photos have to match the

guidelines 100%. The passport

application form must also be

countersigned by someone who

has known the family for 2 years,

and they should be either a British

citizen, EU citizen or a commonwealth/US

citizen. If they are from

the EU they should also supply a

copy of the data page from their

passport. Your application may be

processed faster if your counter

signatory is from the UK or EU.

If the Mother is Thai, then the

documents she needs to supply

are her Birth Certificate, Thai

Identity Card and house registration

(Tabien Baan) as well as her

passport if she has one and any

marriage/divorce or change of

name certificates. She may also

be asked to supply her hospital/

birth records to prove that she

gave birth to the child who the

passport will be issued to.

The Father (British Citizen)

needs to supply his passport and

the long version of his Birth Certificate

(the one with his parents

names on). If the father was born

after 01/01/1983 he will also need

to supply a copy of his parents

birth certificates and their marriage

certificate if they were married.

If both parents are British Citizens

then they would both need

to supply these documents. If the

Mother is British then the hospital

records may not be required but it

is best to request them from the

hospital anyway.

In addition to this, you may

also be asked to supply photos of

the child with both parents from

the time of birth to the time of applying

for the passport.

If the child already has a Thai

or other nationality passport then

you will need to supply that also.

Along with the babies original

birth certificate and completed

application form.

If your child has had any

change of name since the registration

of birth then you will need

to supply legal documents for this

also.

There are some exceptions in

which your child may not qualify

for a British passport including if

you were also born overseas. If

this is the case, then please get

further advice before deciding not

to apply as a British passport will

be very helpful for your child’s future.

If you would like to apply for

a British passport for your Thai

child then please contact Darren

at info@keyvisathailand.com who

can make the process simple,

easy and stress free.

MAZDA TO SPEND BT.1BN TO UPGRADE RAYONG CAR PLANT

Mazda Sales Thailand is expected

to allocate 1 billion baht to

enhance its manufacturing plant

in Rayong.

The money will mainly be

spent on upgrading the jig and

die tooling system at the plant

and will come from the company’s

2020 budget.

The plant is run by Auto Alliance

Thailand, which is a joint

venture between Mazda and Ford

with each company owning 50 per

cent.

As such Mazda is able to

share the capacity equally with its

rival. Currently the facility manufactures

270,000 cars per year

and so Mazda has the ability to

make 135,000 vehicles annually.

President of Mazda Sales

Thailand, Chanchai Trakarnudomsuk,

was quoted as saying,

"The output will serve both the

domestic market and abroad.”

The shared plant makes four

of Mazda’s models: the CX-3,

Mazda 3, BT-50 Pro pick up and

Mazda 2. The Bt-

50 Pro will likely

stop production

soon as the life

cycle of the model

is nearly at an

end. Future pickups

will be made

at Isuzu’s plant in

Thailand under a

joint agreement.

Even in spite of

fierce competition

between carmakers there is also

a significant amount of co-operation

in order to fully utilize production

assets.

Mazda sold 49,668 vehicles in

the first 10 months of 2019 and

once data is verified it expects to

have hit 65,000 unit sales for the

full year, a 7.8 per cent decline on

the previous year and the first decline

in 5 years.

Mr. Chanchai indicated that total

car sales for all manufacturers combined

in Thailand during 2020 could

hit the 1 million milestone since the

government’s stimulus measures

will be in force for the entire year.

He was also quoted as saying,

"The measures are not only for

grassroots people, but also to stimulate

overall economic engines

such as consumption and investment,"

adding, "The central bank's

measures to control auto loan approvals

from financial institutions

will be postponed from a tentative

plan to take effect in early 2020, so

there is no worry for the lending

sector."

The export market

may remain

subdued due to the Baht’s appreciation,

however the Thai currency

is expected to stabilize at around

current levels and may even weaken

slightly in the second quarter.

Mr. Chanchai was further quoted

as saying, "Mazda will announce

its 2020 business plan in early January,

and at least two new models

will be introduced next year.”

The main difference between

digital marketing and traditional

marketing is the ability to track all

of your marketing efforts and easily

find out what is working and

what isn’t.

Even with all of the tools that

we have available for this process,

many business owners and

even digital agencies are not taking

advantage of the opportunities

and tools we have available

these days.

What tools can we use:

One of the most popular and

completely free digital analytics

tools is Google Analytics, this

tool enables you to track visitors

to your website or app, how long

they spend on each page, which

pages they visit, what actions

they take and much more.

A more indepth paid tool which

some marketers choose to use is

called Kissmetrics, where you can

learn to understand your customer

behaviour on a deeper level

and integrate with your marketing

campaigns to engage with your

customers based on their behaviour.

Heat maps are an easy way to

see where users spend the most

time on your webpages and which

links they are clicking on the most.

Whereas Video analytics allows

you to view your users actions in

real time and compare recordings

between different visitors and use

your findings to make changes to

your website. Popular heatmap

and video analytics software includes:

Mouseflow

Lucky Orange

Zoho PageSense

Google Data Studio allows you

to take the data found in Google

Analytics and present it in easy to

understand visual reports which

you can present to your boss or

your clients.

How to analyse and

make predictions

One of the most important factors

in website management is

analysing the data you have and

finding patterns. If for example, as

many businesses do, your traffic

drops dramatically in December

during the lead up to Christmas

and this happens every year then

you can use this information to

plan and accommodate for this

change.

You can also find times of year

when traffic increases for a particular

reason and which geographical

location your traffic is coming

from.

If you find that during the summer,

you get more paid search

traffic from Europe then you can

adjust your marketing campaigns

to capitalise on the increased

search volume.

After your first two years of

being in business or starting to

use digital analytics tools, you

should start to see repeatable

patterns. These patterns enable

you to map out and predict future

changes in your business much

more easily.

While bar charts, line graphs and

simple numbers are hardly capable

of providing the defining answer to

many economic, social and political

questions, they are certainly a good

way of obtaining a general overview

of any particular subject.

Each month the Business Supplement

will look into a brace of

statistical information and provide

readers with what we consider to

be the central elements of these

figures.

WEALTH PER

ADULT VARIES

WIDELY ACROSS

THE ASIA PACIFIC

REGION

Average wealth per adult within

countries in Asia are quite disparate.

The average mean wealth

per adult worldwide is US$70,849,

but even with this figure in mind,

there are haves and have-nots.

Those with wealth totaling less

than 10,000 US$ make up 56.7 per

cent of the total.

In the Asia Pacific region, average

wealth per adult stands at

US$54,211. Yet, Hong Kong leads

the way with US$489,258 per

adult, nearly ten times higher than

the average. Australia is a close

second at US$386,058, followed

by New Zealand at US$304,124

and Singapore at US$297,873.

These numbers are symptomatic

of the exceptional run up in property

prices in those countries over

the last 20 years.

Elsewhere in Asia, Thailand’s

population has a mean wealth value

of US$21,854, China’s stands

at US$58,544 and the mean

wealth for those in the Philippines

isUS$12,063. On average, across

the Asia Pacific region, 0.6 per

cent of people are millionaires.

FACTS ABOUT THE

WORLD’S MOST

POPULOUS CITIES

OVER TIME

Although Tokyo is today’s most

populous city, (when measured by

its urban area), with 38.505 million

inhabitants, it has not always

held the top spot. 125 years ago in

1895, London held the crown with

5.974 million people, followed by

New York with 3.712 million. Tokyo

didn’t even feature in the top ten.

According to 2018 statistics,

the second most populous city was

Delhi with 27.89 million inhabitants

followed by Shanghai in 3rd place

with 25.779 million people. Beijing

and Mumbai rounded off the 4th

and 5th positions with 22.675 million

and 22.120 million people respectively.

New York was in 10th

place with 18,713 million people,

nearly five times its population in

1895. Bangkok didn’t make the

top ten but still had 15.645 million

inhabitants as of 2018. In 2018,

ironically, London was not in the

top ten.

Wind the clock back 500 years

ago to 1500AD, and Peking held

the top spot with 672,000 inhabitants.

Three other Chinese cities at

that time were also in the top ten,

Nanjing, Guangzhou and Hangzhou.

Today, many Chinese cities

house in excess of 10 million people.
