Kilmacolm | Quarriers

The farm roads around Kilmacolm are almost completed

with carriageway resurfacing. It has been many years

since they were properly laid with tarmacadam and

to have these less used but important roads in good

condition is vital. Milton Road will be dealt with in

April. Craigends Road in Quarriers has had culvert work

and flooding has been alleviated. Finlaystone Place has

had the mulch from leaves removed. The Police have

visited the caravan parked in Churchill Road and feel that it is not

an obstruction. The bus shelter at the foot of Wateryetts Drive

towards Port Glasgow, will be replaced (April) using next year’s

budget.

There has been no movement on major planning applications with

Carsemeadow, North Dennistoun and our Local Development

Plan under appeal, all of which we are robustly opposing. The

Planetreeyetts Application Hearing looks like being held in the

village towards the end of April.

The lack of completion of the Institute development is causing

concern and officers are making contact with the developers to

try and gee matters along, although we legally can do little once a

project has started.

Speeding in the village, particularly by commercial vehicles, is

of great concern to many. I have requested a study to ascertain

what, if any, measures could be used to increase road safety. Our

delightful lollipop lady tells me the difficulties she experiences in

Lochwinnoch Road and residents of Woodrow and Glebe Courts

have observed vehicles simply travelling too fast and making road

crossing stressful. There have been 10 accidents in the past 2 years

near the cemetery on Port Glasgow Road due to speeding.

There has been concern that the Old Kirk clock chimes are rather

muted since the clock was serviced. Too loud and nearby residents

complain, too muted and you lose the village aspect. If you see me

standing at the Cross with my hands cupped to my ears you can be

sure a noise test is being conducted.

Many have commented favourably regarding my comments

last month about Jim Wood the visionary behind the Cargill

Centre. It has been suggested that we name something in

his memory. I shall raise this at the next Cargill Centre board

meeting. I did ex Councillor Tom Fyfe a disservice in my piece,

as it was during his reign as Regeneration Committee convenor

that the £1m contribution from the Council was passed.

The Airdrie-Bathgate and Borders railways have been reinstated

some 50 years after the Beeching cuts. Railfuture Scotland have

produced a Rail Map of Scotland showing disused lines that could

be brought back into use. The line that contains Elderslie, Bridge

of Weir and Kilmacolm is on the map. Discuss.

Lots of Village winners at the Inverclyde Music Festival. Wonderful

talents that I regularly witness at my 4 secondary’s and 5

primaries.

The OKFest 2020 is a Festival of Sound with something for all, at

the Old Kirk and the Kidston hall on the 6th, 7th and 8th March.

Kilmacolm Litter

Pickers

We are a bunch of local folk

determined to clear-up the

countryside and roadside

verges surrounding Kilmacolm.

We meet every fortnight on

a Sunday at Gryffe Road,

Kilmacolm (the Bridge of Weir

Road end). If you would like to

lend a hand, then all you need

is a litter pick, Hi-Viz vest and

your enthusiasm to help fight

back against the tide of litter

that is damaging Scotland

– both aesthetically and

environmentally.

Inverclyde Council provide us

with refuse bags and collect the

bags from the agreed location

outside Kilmacolm Library.

Dates and times for March –

Sunday 1st at 9.30am, Sunday

15th at 1.30pm, Sunday 29th at

9.30am

If you know of any areas of

countryside or woodland or

grot-spots in general that

you would like to see clearedup,

then please contact me

JennyMeadows10@outlook.

We also post on the Kilmacolm

Wanderers Facebook page.

The community Facebook page

for Kilmacolm.

Over the coming months,

we hope you notice a big

reduction in the amount of litter

disfiguring our beautiful wee bit

of Scotland.. Jenny x
