• Intense debate in the US government over the “fiscal cliff
(a simultaneous increase in tax rates & reduction in
government spending) is delayed by passage of a last
minute “American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012” passed on
Jan.1 but guarantees the debate will continue further into
2013.
• Pope Benedict announces in February he will be the first
Pope in 600 years to resign. Cardinal Timothy Dolan joins
the conclave to select Pope Francis as the 266 th Pope on
March 13, the first Pope from the Americas and first Jesuit
Pope.
• Two bombs explode at the finish line of the Boston
Marathon on April 15, killing 3 and injuring 264. One
suspect is apprehended while another is killed by police.
• The University of Missouri football became the SEC East
Division Champs. They went on to defeat Oklahoma in the
Cotton Bowl 41-31.
• Super Bowl: Baltimore Ravens pulled off a
win against the San Francisco 49ers: 34 to 31
despite a power outage and game delay
• World Series: Red Sox win the series 4-2
against the Cardinals
• Movies: Ironman3, Man of Steel, Hunger
