What is SUMMER SESSIONS and How Can It Beneft You? Through CSUDH College of Extended & International Education, adults capable of college-level work may enroll in regular CSUDH courses each semester on a space-available basis. There is no formal admission to the University and registration is made easy—you can usually confrm your space in class at the frst meeting. Each department may regulate admission to specifc classes, but many choices are available. Open University gives you the freedom to • Sample a particular feld before enrolling in a degree program • Take courses for professional or personal development • Improve your grade point average if you have been turned down for admission by the university or have been academically disqualifed. • Get a start on your degree if you missed the application deadline Through the Open University program, you can receive credit for your completed course work in any of the lower division, upper division, or graduate courses available to you. The credit you earn can be applied towards a degree within the limits described in the Academic Eligibility and Credit Information section (page 72). How to Register for Summer Sessions 4. Additionally, you should receive a confrmation letter within two weeks after we receive your registration and fees. When you register in person, you will receive an Extension student ID card which entitles you to library privileges. If you choose to mail in your registration forms and fees, your confrmation of enrollment and ID card will be mailed to you. Courses you enroll in become part of your permanent academic record at CSUDH. Summer Sessions students are subject to the same withdrawal, grading and academic policies as degree students. Other Fees A materials fee is charged for some classes. The classes are indicated and footnoted in this bulletin. An additional fee is also charged for Summer Sessions courses taken over television ($30.00 per unit). Refunds Summer Session 1 and Regular Summer Session: If a student drops a class on or before May 25, 100% of the fees will be refunded (less $10 processing fee). After May 25, until June 1, 75% of the fees will be refunded. From June 2 to June 8, 50% of the fees will be refunded. After June 8, no refund will be made. 18 CSUDH College of Extended and International Education
Refunds Summer Session 2 If a student drops a class on or before July 5, 100% of the fees will be refunded (less $10 processing fee). After July 5, until July 13, 75% of the fees will be refunded. From July 14 to July 20, 50% of the fees will be refunded. After July 20, no refund will be made. Refunds are not automatic. You must fle appropriate forms in the College of Extended and International Education ofce in order to receive a refund. Refunds take a minimum of six to eight weeks for processing. Do not put a stop-payment on a check to withdraw from a course. This results in a fnancial obligation to the University for the course fee, plus an additional $25 charge, plus a $25 late fee. If the University cancels a class, the student will receive a full refund of applicable fees or will be allowed to register in another class without payment of a late fee. Dishonored Check Policy Once a check has been dishonored, no personal checks will be accepted from that person for a period of at least two academic terms. This rule applies to any check returned from any fnancial institution for any reason. The person will be required to pay all university-related debts with a certifed check, money order or traveler’s check(s) including the $25.00 returned check fee. Discrepancies not resolved before fnal exams may result in loss of credit for the class. Verifcation of Enrollment To verify that you have been ofcially enrolled in your classes, check the instructor’s printed class roster which is published the fourth week of the term. Summer Sessions students will appear on the same roster as students enrolled in degree programs. If your name is not on the roster, call the College of Extended & International Education Ofce immediately. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate inquiries regarding his/her registration in a course. Discrepancies not resolved before fnal exams may result in loss of credit for the class. Academic Eligibility and Credit Information Matriculated Students You may not enroll in the Summer Sessions program if you have been admitted to any California State University campus as a regular student for this semester, or if you are a continuing regular student for this semester, or if you are a continuing regular student who has registered in the previous term at any CSU. This does not apply to academically disqualifed students. Undergraduate Credit A maximum of 24 semester units of Summer Sessions or extension baccalaureate-level credit may be applied toward bachelor’s degree requirements at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Each department, however, decides whether a particular course can be accepted towards a major or minor. Further information may be obtained from the University Catalog, available at the University Bookstore on campus or online www.csudh.edu/ university-catalog Graduate Credit For a 30 semester unit master’s degree at California State University, Dominguez Hills, students may not apply more than 6 units of Summer Sessions credit and/or credit transferred from other accredited institutions. All students taking 500 level courses must obtain the appropriate college dean’s signature before submitting their registration forms to the College of Extended & International Education. Summer Sessions students may take 500 level courses within the College of Business and Public Administration only with a stamp issued from the department. Mathematics Classes Students wishing to enroll in several mathematics classes will have to provide evidence of having satisfed the ELM requirements. This requirement can be satisfed by either of the following methods. 1. Passing the ELM examination administered by the University Testing Ofce (call 243-3909 for information). 2. Transcripts showing passing grades on college level mathematics courses. California State University, Dominguez Hills graduates can have their records verifed by the Ofce of Admissions and Records. Ofcial verifcation must be received by the Extended Education Registration ofce before the student can enroll in mathematics classes. Verifcation may be obtained at the University Advisement Center (located in Welch Hall), or the Math Department (Natural Sciences & Mathematics Building), room A-132. College of Business Administration and Public Policy All Summer Sessions students who wish to register for 300-or 400-level business courses or Accounting 231 are required to obtain approval from the Business Advisement Center located in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building (SBS), room E-306. The phone number is (310) 243-3561. For information concerning approval of graduate business courses, call (310) 243-3465. Students must bring a copy of their transcripts, grade reports, and/or college records, including all lower division business courses to the Center when seeking advisement. Contact the Business Advisement Center for hours of operation. Transcripts Transcripts may be ordered online or by phone. Details are available at http://www.csudh.edu/recordsregistration/records/ requesttranscript. The fee for transcripts is $4. CSUDH Records & Registration keeps track of your degree applicable credits and records them in your student fle. Grade Reports Ofcial transcripts with current grades will be available approximately fve weeks after the end of the course. To learn your grade for any graded class, including Extension, Special Sessions, Summer Sessions and Winter Session, please access MyCSUDH: http:// my.csudh.edu. Changes From Bulletin The University reserves the right to make changes in the class schedule as printed.
