Photography. 8 × 10 in.Using curvilinear forms, circular spaces and shapes seen in thenatural environment, I create pieces that highlight the organiccomplexities within and around us, while translating the resultsin and through different media.Clay records the movement of my hands and the impressionsof my surroundings. I love the way it feels in my hands, howit is alive, from the earth, thus readily available on all continentsand an ancient medium. I fire my clay pieces, solidifyingtheir forms, then I capture their shadows in photographicprints with a process that is as old as photography itself.The translation that takes place between media is of interestto me. The impressions left on the photo paper are a result ofcontact and proximity, as well as a play of light and chemicalsupon slippery surfaces. In the end, an art piece is createdthat represents not only my hand, as the creator, but also theinnate energy and agency of clay upon the final medium thatwelcomes and receives it.
