SEAT Tarraco FR PHEV: technology,sportiness and efficiencySEAT is expanding theefficiency and desirability ofthe Tarraco, introducing plug-inhybrid powertrain technologyand the sporty FR trim. TheTarraco plug-in hybrid is ademonstration of SEAT strategytowards electrification, whichwill include six electric andplug-in hybrid SEAT and CUPRAmodels until the beginningof 2021.SEAT sold a record 369,500vehicles in the first sevenmonths of the year, with 55,200vehicles sold in July alone,a 7.8% increase over 2018.The Tarraco is contributingto increase the company’spresence globally, and theintroduction of both the FR trimand plug-in hybrid technologywill be key components inachieving its targets.“The Tarraco plug-in hybridperfectly illustrates our movetowards a more sustainablemobility, yet maintaining thedynamism and fun-to-drive,typical of any SEAT. The Tarracowill be one of the few optionswith a plug-in hybrid powertrainon the large SUV segment, andwe believethat it has a great potential,” saidLuca de Meo, President of SEAT.Plug-in hybrid version:pure efficiencyDesigned and developpedat SEAT’s facilities in Martorell,the SEAT Tarraco is beingproduced in Wolfsburg(Germany), at the heart of theVolkswagen Group. With theintroduction of the plug-inhybrid powertrain system, theSEAT Tarraco will gain addedefficiency, becoming a verysustainable alternative.The powertrain system,which comprises a 1.4 litreTSI 110 kW petrol engine, 85kW electric motor and a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack,gives drivers the adaptability ofmultiple driving modes. The pluginhybrid Tarraco allows usersto drive in pure-electric modefor more than 50km shouldthey need to, reducing tailpipeemissions to zero, or combinethe petrol engine and electricmotor to provide increasedperformance.The technology will helpthe SUV – and SEAT – improveefficiency without the need tomake sacrifices in dynamics orcomfort.Total output for the system is245PS (180kW)/400Nm givingthe plug-in hybrid Tarraco a topspeed of 217km/h and the abilityto reach 100km/h in just 7.4seconds. But importantly, CO2emissions will be below 50g/kmon the official WLTP test cycle.mobilitynews68
