Welcome to the 2012 NWSS Mile High Classic Red Angus Auction! 

The 2011 Red Angus Auction season ended with a stellar year for cattlemen and women 

across the North American continent. I was able to be involved in 43 of these auctions and 

nearly all of them set records for average prices and recorded buyers, exemplifying the 

demand for Red Angus genetics in the beef industry. I believe that Red Angus are in big 

demand for one major reason – their low input requirements to excel in gains and body 

condition on less feed. With input costs increasing as fast as cattle prices, you still must 

control costs to be a profitable producer . . . . . Red Angus is the solution! 

The Mile High Classic Auction is still the Grand daddy of ‘em all when it comes to Red Angus 

Auctions. Nowhere else in the industry do cattle gather with as much diversity, and yet top 

quality, than in Denver. In this auction you will find competitive show heifers selling beside 

breed leading carcass genetics, and both have the ability to excel and make money for their 

new owners. Nothing excites me more than seeing a champion show female go into the 

pasture and produce progeny that win bull tests and carcass competitions. The show ring 

can offer breeders an excellent opportunity to evaluate feet, leg structure and soundness 

better than a computer sitting in a university laboratory. Likewise, the computer can generate 

statistics, data and computations that can predict future production better than a single 

person viewing animals for a few minutes and placing them. When you bring it all together in 

one setting, the animals that excel in both phenotype and genotype should be the highest 

valued animals within a breed. The NWSS allows this to happen. and that’s what makes the 

Mile High Classic the Grand daddy of ‘em all!

This exciting new dimension of the Black Cap cow family 

bred by Boot Jack originating from the Mc Cumber herd is 

one to study. A new cow family being developed in our 

program continues to consistently crank out the good ones, 

and this flush mating clicked as well as we had planned. 

Combining the rib and muscle shape from Hamley adding 

the little extra neck extension from N Bar Kelly cow and the 

deep soft look from the Black Cap with a little extra shot of 

frame and milk from Red Lightning 601Y put it all together. 

The Black Cap and Hamley’s continue to improve with

A daughter of the reigning National Grand Champion Bull – Northline Fat Tony 605U who 

has caused quite a stir among Red Angus breeders across the North American continent. A 

paternal sister was 2nd high selling heifer calf in the 2011 NILE for the Sutherlins of 

Montana and Fat Tony daughters dominated the Great Northern Auction as well this past

Selling the pick of the entire 2012 heifer calf crop at Brylor Ranch sired by the bull 

responsible for all the Mayhem lately! We have at least 25 calves coming by the 

World’s Most Talked About Bull at the ranch and also have 15 embryos implanted 

by his service as well. Again in 2011 at TWAV, a daughter led off our sale at 

$12,500 – she will be in Denver at Wildcat Creek Ranch’s string. A May born
