Welcome to the 2012 NWSS Mile High Classic Red Angus Auction!
The 2011 Red Angus Auction season ended with a stellar year for cattlemen and women
across the North American continent. I was able to be involved in 43 of these auctions and
nearly all of them set records for average prices and recorded buyers, exemplifying the
demand for Red Angus genetics in the beef industry. I believe that Red Angus are in big
demand for one major reason – their low input requirements to excel in gains and body
condition on less feed. With input costs increasing as fast as cattle prices, you still must
control costs to be a profitable producer . . . . . Red Angus is the solution!
The Mile High Classic Auction is still the Grand daddy of ‘em all when it comes to Red Angus
Auctions. Nowhere else in the industry do cattle gather with as much diversity, and yet top
quality, than in Denver. In this auction you will find competitive show heifers selling beside
breed leading carcass genetics, and both have the ability to excel and make money for their
new owners. Nothing excites me more than seeing a champion show female go into the
pasture and produce progeny that win bull tests and carcass competitions. The show ring
can offer breeders an excellent opportunity to evaluate feet, leg structure and soundness
better than a computer sitting in a university laboratory. Likewise, the computer can generate
statistics, data and computations that can predict future production better than a single
person viewing animals for a few minutes and placing them. When you bring it all together in
one setting, the animals that excel in both phenotype and genotype should be the highest
valued animals within a breed. The NWSS allows this to happen. and that’s what makes the
Mile High Classic the Grand daddy of ‘em all!
I am again honored to be sale manager and auctioneer for the Mile High Classic Auction.
The consignors of animals to this auction are the heroes that deserve your gratitude for
putting forth the effort to bring you this event. This catalog is full of information and includes
the phone numbers of the producers that are bringing cattle, embryos and semen to the sale.
Please call them with any questions you have about their program and genetics being
offered. If you cannot attend the auction, please call me, Kathy LaScala, a buyer
representative or one of the ringmen to place your bids. We will not be able to bring this
auction to you via the internet, so please make advanced plans by contacting any of the sale
staff prior to the auction.
I look forward to seeing you in Denver at the Grand daddy of
‘em all – the Mile High Classic!
Batterson Mc Cumber 601Y – Lot 2
This exciting new dimension of the Black Cap cow family
bred by Boot Jack originating from the Mc Cumber herd is
one to study. A new cow family being developed in our
program continues to consistently crank out the good ones,
and this flush mating clicked as well as we had planned.
Combining the rib and muscle shape from Hamley adding
the little extra neck extension from N Bar Kelly cow and the
deep soft look from the Black Cap with a little extra shot of
frame and milk from Red Lightning 601Y put it all together.
The Black Cap and Hamley’s continue to improve with
time. This female will be very competitive on the tan bark
this summer show season and will be a head turner next
year on the hill. This powerful female will make a great
show heifer and when her show career is done, she will
make an excellent cow.
This flawless designed Sakic daughter will certainly grab
your attention in Denver as her explosive muscle shape
from behind combined with that easy soft look from the
side profile will catch your eye regardless of what direction
you want to take your program. Duette 608Y dam 747T has
been added to our donor program to carry on the Duette
cow family legacy into the next generation. Her first natural
calf Batterson Eclipse a Mulberry son grabbed a lot of
attention in his first outing this summer while this flush
(Sakic X Duette 747T) built our confidence even higher
with three flush mate bulls averaging an adj 205 over 820
ibs. and this brood cow prospect. The Duette females
have been well received in the past and have topped
numerous sales and continue to be a standout for the
power, style and performance they pass on to their
progeny. A well balanced set of EPDs combined with an
impeccable pedigree, combining some of the power female
and female producing bulls of the breed, Sakic, BJR High
Not very often do you have an opportunity to purchase an embryo package and
see the result of the mating at the same time. This donor female was added to the
program for her genetic outcross pedigree, length and depth of body, and
tremendous udder quality, to produce highly functional females down the road. She
has not disappointed and continues to be a very consistent producer with sale
toppers in our spring bull sale and highlight in the Fall Kick Off Classic. This may
be the best mating yet as a son will be in the 2012 Iowa Beef Expo. Two of the
three females in our 2012 NWSS pen of three females and a show prospect heifer
that will be campaigned this winter and summer all resulted from this mating. Buy
with confidence. It worked well in 2011 with 70% conception rates. We flushed her
back the same way for 2012. Embryos FOB Trans Ova Chillicothe, Mo.
A daughter of the reigning National Grand Champion Bull – Northline Fat Tony 605U who
has caused quite a stir among Red Angus breeders across the North American continent. A
paternal sister was 2nd high selling heifer calf in the 2011 NILE for the Sutherlins of
Montana and Fat Tony daughters dominated the Great Northern Auction as well this past
November. Y11 has a nice hip and that extra length we have been seeing from her
amazing sire. Her cherry red color comes from both Fat Tony and her Cherokee Canyon
dam from the now deceased Glacier Osce 951 cow. If you like style and super hair, you
must see this fantastic March heifer in Denver.
Nothing this auction season has topped the excitement that the Nebula P707 sons caused
in the R.A. Brown Ranch Sale this past October. This fantastic bull was Lot #202 and sold
for $16,000 to Shepard Settlement / 3J Farms & Pritchard Red Angus and was the highest
performing of the brothers sold that day. X7878 also boasted the most muscle, scanning a
144 REA ratio among the most elite management group of embryo calves in the R.A. Brown
herd. His dam is stacked for high growth and stoutness and is a deep bodied, powerfully
made daughter of Destination who shares the record as the highest selling bull in the
history of the breed at $180,000. He too is an outcross to so many in the breed going back
to two of the most famous Angus bulls in history – New Design 878 and Future Direction.
New Trend daughter from the Copperqueen family. Mulberry has definitely left his mark
on the breed and even had an entire sale devoted to him in October 2011 at the
Mulberry Mayhem in Emporia, Kansas. The combination of Mulberry X New Trend X
• Lee Leachman selected this outstanding, young, Australian sire to advance the
$Profit in his Red Angus program. ABS is marketing semen globally, but will
withhold semen from the North American market until the spring of 2014, at which
point the new owners will participate in the North American semen royalties.
• Iron Ore is a 100% outcross with no Red Angus lines in his pedigree. His
most highly used and proven Angus bulls in Australia. Te Mania Ada A149, the
sire, topped the Te Mania sale at $43,500 and is now a proven growth, carcass
weight, and muscle trait leader with 1678 progeny in 79 herds. Te Mania
Yorkshire Y437, the maternal grandsire, is one of the breeds most balanced bulls
with trait leading EPDs for calving ease, maternal calving ease, gestation length,
birth weight, growth, scrotal, days to calving, carcass weight, and marbling. The
black Angus bulls!
The beef industry is moving towards better value signals between packers,
feeders, and cow/calf producers. An age is approaching when commercial
ranchers will be paid based on DNA evaluations of the post weaning and carcass
potential of their calves. Now, more than ever, it is critical to make sure that our
Red Angus compete with the best bulls in the industry.
“To remain competitive, the Red Angus breed must find outcross genetics from superior
black Angus lines. We are already losing ground and cannot afford to fall further behind.”
Selling ½ interest & full possession.
Comes with 50 straws of in herd use semen!
Come to Denver and partner with Brylor on Wander.
One of the most influential maternal bulls of all time in the
Red Angus breed is certainly Hobo 1961. His legacy is his
superior producing daughters around the world. Up to this
point in time, however, his outstanding sons could be
counted on one hand at best! On January 8th in Denver at
the Mile High Classic Auction, the Red Angus world has
the opportunity to acquire one of the very best (if not thee
best) son of Buf Crk Hobo 1961! Wander has all the parts
to be a big time herdbull with a built in pension plan of
future semen sales. His disposition is wonderful ! His foot
is big and strong and very correct! His head shape and
front end are built for speed and calving ease! He has lots
of guts and top and a butt end packed with muscle! He is
tremendously dark colored too! Wander’s dam was a Red
Roundup graduate of 2007 and his grand dam topped the
Hay Shaker Sale in 2006 at $11,000. Wander’s first
daughter sold in Red Roundup 2011 at $4,800 to DAMAR
A natural born beauty queen sired by Mulberry “the king of
their next top Donor Cows ! Tinsel 4P has cranked out 3
herdbulls at a $6,100 average and now this unbelievable
May born heart throb. (a full sister sold to Wildcat Creek
become a dam of distinction and live in the Donor Stable.
Her sire Stallion 46M was the Res Grand Champion Bull at
Farmfair in 2004 and his sire Stallion 19J was the Supreme
Champion Bull at Agribition in 2001.
104Y was part of the “pick lot” at Mayhem in Emporia,
Kansas back in October. Brylor offered all their May born
Mulberry heifers and it sold out at $9,500. Some in
attendance thought that 104Y was the one… but she was
left standing and now here she is in Denver! Consider
this…buy this heifer in January of 2012 in Denver, breed
her, show her, win with her, calve her out in 2013 and then
offer a flush on her in the 2013 More Mayhem event in
Brown C- Abigrace S602 was the leadoff cow for the C-Bar Fall Sale, this highly
productive foundation donor garnered more interest from across the United States than
any other female in the sale. Ray Dowd selected her as his first choice in his donor
group at $17,500. S602 is the dam to featured Accelerated Genetics sire C-Bar Contour
107X, who is owned with Accelerated and Overmiller Red Angus. Contour was the high
selling bull of the 2011 C-Bar Bull sale. S602 is one of the more noted franchise females
in the C-Bar program and rightfully so – she combines so much of the great Abigrace
traits and the solid performance of
Beckton Heritage. HXC Conquest is one
of the best bulls Hueftle’s program has put
on the market. Conquest is owned with
Accelerated Genetics and is known as a
calving ease specialist with cattlemen from
across the country testifying to that. With
this said, this is an extremely rare
opportunity to be able to have the potential
of THREE full sibs to Contour. Selling
The Julian B571 daughters have been in big demand
to that equation her low BW, adequate growth and high
What creates all of the excitement in the NWSS Mile High Classic Auction is the quality of the Red Angus genetics that are offered. Nowhere else on
Earth do producers open the gate to their very top genetics like in the Granddaddy of ‘em all – the Mile High Classic. These 2 bulls from Rich Red
Angus are as powerful and deep pedigreed as they come.
RRA Crimson Tide is probably the stoutest New Trend 22D son ever made. What makes him ultimately unique is his combination of extreme
maternal traits and his worth in making Red Angus females in the future. His dam produced the 2008 NWSS Res Grand Champion Pen of 3 Bulls
and is the pinnacle cow in the Rich Red Angus program – WCC Phyllis 47. Her stature comes from Mlk Crk Cub 722, the sire of back-to-back
NWSS Grand Champion Red Angus bulls – Doc Holliday and Dr. Phil.
RRA Absolute Power 125 is a tremendous Mulberry son and a flushmate to RRA Phyllis 47 116 selling as Lot 37 in this sale. Another flushmate
sister sold for $10,500 in the Mulberry Mayhem in Emporia, Kansas. With explosive growth, the ultimate in style, extreme length of body and the
ability to hold it all together in one neatly presented package, Absolute Power could easily be the most used bull in the Red Angus breed in the next
couple of years.
Selling the first package of 50 straws of semen on either of the maternal brothers or a
combination of the 2 bulls (example 20 units on Crimson Tide & 30 units on Absolute Power).
The winning bidder has the option at 10X the bid price to own 50% semen share of both bulls.
*The semen will be exportable.
JKC Cherok 124Y – Lot 38
I can honestly say it gets harder and harder for us to part with these 22L
daughters. This time it actually came down to a family vote. So we are selling
full possession on 124Y but retaining two flushes. Her full sisters keep raising
the bar on what we think 22L can produce, but just as impressive are her full
brothers. One of them, JKC Top Gun 107Y, will also be in our stalls in Denver.
Make sure you stop by and take a look at him; six more brothers will sell in
the 41st Annual Brylor Bull Sale in Alberta. Her sister JKC FAF Mercedes
103W was just named Cow Calf Champion at NAILE 2011, she was Calf
Champion at NAILE in 2010. She was also Reserve Champion at the NWSS
in 2010 and Reserve Senior Champion at NWSS 2011. Her other full sister
JKC Ducati 106Y topped our first ever female Auction “The Red Event” for
$10,000 Labor Day weekend to 5-L Livestock, Walton, KS. The pick of fall ET
siblings sold in Mile High Sale 2011 to Wildcat Creek for $10,000. A flush
mate to those calves 122X was the high selling live lot in Mulberry Mayhem
for $15,000 half interest. Her oldest full sister 19U sold for $7,500 as a calf at
Tradition with a Vision 2008. The same day we purchased her dam 22L for
$10,000 with Fair Acres Stock Farm, Minnesota. 19 U was Senior Calf
Champion at Farmfair and Agribition and Senior Yearling Champion at the
World Angus Forum 2009. What is even more impressive, her first bull calf
Brylor WRAZ Mak'n Waves topped the 40th Annual Brylor Bull Sale at
$47,500, and we purchased him with 5-L Livestock Walton, KS. The plan all
along for 124Y was to be in the Mile High Sale, because like many of the Mulberry calves she was green for awhile and now only continues to get better. She has all the potential of
her mother and sisters, but she may be the best one yet! Her look, body, and shape combine into a sound high performing female that will make her your leading donor or show
female. Don't miss an opportunity to own this female from one of the greatest cow families to come out of the Brylor program. She is also eligible for the futurity at NAJRA Event.
Two of our customers were Champion and Reserve Champion Futurity winners at the 2011 NAJRAS winning $1,500 and $1,000 respectfully.
Selling choice of all the bred heifers (X’s born in 2010) at the SSS Red Angus
program in Canada.
From one of the long time established breeders in Canada comes a unique
choice lot. Sibbalds have sold a few heifers this fall from this group; one in the
Red Roundup (2nd high seller at $11,000) and a dozen or so in the Cowgirls
Sale in October (topping at $13,500). Now anyone really knowing Dave, knows
full well there just might be a couple good ones left at home! These bred
heifers are sired by such great bulls as Pursue, a Game Plan son named Game
On, Ribeye 308U, Twitch, Arsenal, A Sequoia sons named T-K Energizer, Big
Rock, and Ole’s Oscar and his son Oly 554T. Many will be serviced to either
Soldier or Stout. ½ of the purchase price down at sale / balance at selection
time. Heifers start calving Feb. 1, 2012.
Roy Rogers • Maternal brother to Lots 44A-C
The donor dam of these three sisters is best known as the mother of Roy Rogers 5604, who was the 2008 National Champion Red Angus Bull, winning the Louisville,
Denver, and Ft. Worth Stock Shows before being leased by Genex. Patti Anne 9221 is a no-miss producer that consistently imparts length of spine and style, while adding
muscle and improving foot and leg structure. At 12 years of age, this Sams Prospector daughter is one of the most athletic cows on the ranch. She excels at all the
convenience traits – fertility, longevity, capacity, soundness, and fleshing ability.
Each of these three heifers has impressive muscle design, length, and rib shape. Their full brother recorded one of the heaviest weaning weights ever in the program and
will be a feature later in the spring. Look up this great Denver consignment by Ravishing Reds and pick your favorite to serve as a balanced building block in your herd, or
buy all three sisters, breed them, and watch them blossom into the stylish and productive kind of cows that will make you money and make your neighbors jealous.

Sale Terms and Conditions…
An ET son sired by the hottest bull in North America right now – N-Bar Hamley!
Hamley has done an amazing job at TC Reds in Wisconsin and at Nolind Ward’s
N-Bar Ranch in Kansas. His daughters have won nearly every show (Jr. and
Sr.) all over America that there is. Now . . . . . just dream of the chance to own
one of the very best sons to come along. His full sister sold in Reno this
November at $4,750 to Radiant Reds in California. His dam TJS Chico has
done it twice before in Denver as sons have sold to Doug Paulek in North
Dakota for $6,750 and $4,500. Denver has always presented the opportunity to
get a top cut bull calf prospect and Pendleton could be the most significant in
recent times! He was Res. Jr. Bull Calf Champion at the NAILE in Louisville –
November 2011.
Selling 3/5 interest and full possession.
LIABILITIES: All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, auction facility, and
sale manager assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of monies between
parties. Any legal action, that may in exceptional cases be taken, must be between the buyer and
Last years focus or buzz was primarily aimed at the big powerful bull called Stout 107U. He had
many admirers and fans “on the Hill” but he really shined brightly on Sunday afternoon in the
Mile High Classic where he commanded $39,000 for a 1/3 interest!! Within an hour of the sale,
Chatburn’s had recouped nearly 30% of their investment from enthusiastic Red Angus breeders
at the stall. The high selling heifer that day also brought $23,000…A.I. bred to Stout!! Stout’s
first daughter to sell this fall captured $6,500 in TWAV to Silver Spur Ranches and will be in
Denver 2012 on the Hill. The interest in Stout’s bull calves in both the SSS bull pen and
Brylor’s has been nothing less than wild! Stout’s dam had a pregnant recip sell at Blair’s Sale
in October for $10,000. Imagine being one of only 5 breeders (+ Chatburns) in the entire USA
in 2012 to use Stout!
