Welcome to the 2012 NWSS Mile High Classic Red Angus Auction!
The 2011 Red Angus Auction season ended with a stellar year for cattlemen and women
across the North American continent. I was able to be involved in 43 of these auctions and
nearly all of them set records for average prices and recorded buyers, exemplifying the
demand for Red Angus genetics in the beef industry. I believe that Red Angus are in big
demand for one major reason – their low input requirements to excel in gains and body
condition on less feed. With input costs increasing as fast as cattle prices, you still must
control costs to be a profitable producer . . . . . Red Angus is the solution!
The Mile High Classic Auction is still the Grand daddy of ‘em all when it comes to Red Angus
Auctions. Nowhere else in the industry do cattle gather with as much diversity, and yet top
quality, than in Denver. In this auction you will find competitive show heifers selling beside
breed leading carcass genetics, and both have the ability to excel and make money for their
new owners. Nothing excites me more than seeing a champion show female go into the
pasture and produce progeny that win bull tests and carcass competitions. The show ring
can offer breeders an excellent opportunity to evaluate feet, leg structure and soundness
better than a computer sitting in a university laboratory. Likewise, the computer can generate
statistics, data and computations that can predict future production better than a single
person viewing animals for a few minutes and placing them. When you bring it all together in
one setting, the animals that excel in both phenotype and genotype should be the highest
valued animals within a breed. The NWSS allows this to happen. and that’s what makes the
Mile High Classic the Grand daddy of ‘em all!
I am again honored to be sale manager and auctioneer for the Mile High Classic Auction.
The consignors of animals to this auction are the heroes that deserve your gratitude for
putting forth the effort to bring you this event. This catalog is full of information and includes
the phone numbers of the producers that are bringing cattle, embryos and semen to the sale.
Please call them with any questions you have about their program and genetics being
offered. If you cannot attend the auction, please call me, Kathy LaScala, a buyer
representative or one of the ringmen to place your bids. We will not be able to bring this
auction to you via the internet, so please make advanced plans by contacting any of the sale
staff prior to the auction.
