SAINT-AUGUSTIN<br />
Lieu de passage des pirates du XVI au XVIIIe siècle, ce petit<br />
village de pêcheurs Vezo fut un centre de commerce au<br />
XIXe siècle. Le village de Saint-<strong>August</strong>in se trouve à 37km<br />
au sud de Tuléar, à l’embouchure du fleuve Onilahy. Il est<br />
situé au pied de grandes falaises calcaires blanches et son<br />
authenticité repose sur la variété de ses paysages. Cette baie<br />
naturelle de 8km est également le site favori des amateurs<br />
de plongée sous-marine. Un sentier relie la baie de Saint-<br />
<strong>August</strong>in au village de Sarodrano,une promenade d'un peu<br />
plus de 3km le long d'un promontoire côtier. D’autres sites<br />
exceptionnels à proximité de Saint-<strong>August</strong>in sont à visiter<br />
comme la piscine naturelle de Sarodrano, Anakao et ses<br />
paysages pittoresques et Nosy Ve, l’îlot paradis des oiseaux.<br />
A popular stop-over for pirates in the 16th and 17th<br />
centuries, this little Vezo fishing village was a trading<br />
post at the start of the 19th century. The village of Saint-<br />
<strong>August</strong>in is located 37km to the south of Tuléar, at the<br />
mouth of the Onilahy river. It lies at the foot of high white<br />
sandstone cliffs and is exceptional for the variety of its<br />
scenery. This natural bay, stretching out along 8km, is also<br />
a popular spot with divers. There is a track leading from<br />
the bay of Saint-<strong>August</strong>in to the village of Sarodrano, a<br />
walk of just over 3km along a coastal headland. Other<br />
exceptional sites to visit near Saint-<strong>August</strong>in include the<br />
natural pool of Sarodrano, Anakao with its picturesque<br />
landscapes and Nosy Ve, a tiny island inhabited by birds.<br />
