Hundreds flock to Brighton
Gallery Pop-Up Exhibition
A pop-up art exhibition and daily
programme of art classes held by
Brighton Gallery at The Palms recently
saw hundreds of people flock to view the
works of local artists and attend classes.
“Because a pop-up exhibition is
less formal than a gallery what was
particularly gratifying was to see people of
all ages and walks of life feel comfortable
coming in, viewing the art and chatting to
artists,” says Brighton Gallery committee
member and artist Karen Phelps. “We
were really blown away by how many
people attended and the positive feedback
we got.”
Art works exhibited in the pop-up
exhibition included painting, drawing,
prints and sculptures. Phelps says that
the art classes were also well attended
and resulted in a competition of kids’
and young people’s artwork where the
public could vote for their favourite piece
with prizes donated by Paper Plus New
Brighton and the Palms. The pop-up
exhibition also included the opportunity
to win a double pass to He Puna
Taimoana to celebrate its opening, which
was won by Dianne S of New Brighton.
Phelps says that she hopes the pop
up exhibition will encourage people to
explore their creative side and visit the
Brighton Gallery:
“We have constant exhibitions at
the gallery with a large variety of art
from traditional to street art. For those
looking to purchase the artworks are very
reasonably priced. There are regular art
classes and people can join as a member
and exhibit their work. Brighton Gallery
really is an undiscovered gem and once
people visit they keep coming back.”

Gallery is open 7 days a week year round.
