Zihuatanejo is a lovely and unique
beach resort on a large sheltered
bay, with a traditional fishing
village on one side and a long
beach on the other, with a
picturesque cliff between the two.
There are small hotel resorts on
the beach which has beautiful
white sand and is lined with palm
trees for shade.
The old fishing village has shops,
bars, restaurants and a promenade
along the waterfront for a pleasant
stroll and to sit outdoors enjoying
the fresh air by the sea.
Behind it is the larger modern
town with the Ixtapa airport
within easy reach. The first
settlement was in 1521 as a port
and for shipbuilding with
agricultural haciendas inland.
