Landscape
Stretching 3,460km from north
to south, to the east of the Andean
mountains, Argentina embraces
subtropical rainforests, mountain
canyons and deserts in the north.
The central flat pampa and lake
region and in the south, windswept
Patagonia, with granite massifs,
glaciers and the myriad of islands
of Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia.
Culture
Home of the tango and gauchos,
the strong European links are clear
upon arrival in Buenos Aires, a
cosmopolitan metropolis with
architecture and stylish street cafés,
reminiscent of Paris. Argentina is
famed for its beef, a centre-stage
ingredient of the traditional
parrillada (barbecue).
Wildlife
Depending on the season, a whole
wealth of wildlife can be observed

Valdés. Whales make their annual
visits, as do penguins (some 2
millions during the peak season),
elephant seals, sea lions and
their lethal predator, the killer
whale. Also present are guanacos,

burrowing owl, petrel and albatross.
