The journey is a sightseeingtour in itself: first you cross the wide Amazon by launch, passing the Meeting of theWaters where the silt-laden Rio Solimoes meets the dark, clear waters of the RioNegro to form the Amazon. Then, after a short trip by road, you board a motorisedcanoe for the trip along the Rio Araca, getting ever further away from civilisation, toreach a secluded area where the seasonal rise and fall of the waters creates narrow,twisting creeks and a maze of small islands covered in virgin rainforest.Juma LodgeAmazon LodgeThe journey to and from the lodge is afascinating view of the Amazon, graduallygetting away from people into a remoteregion of pristine rainforest, three hourssouth of Manaus. You take a boat acrossthe mighty Amazon river, seeing the welldefined line of the famous “meeting of thewaters”. Continue by road to a smalltributary river to board a motorised canoeto the lodge. The Amazon Eco-Lodge is acomfortable lodge built from wood andlocal materials, in a star shape and floatingon the calm waters. It has a central unitwith an open lounge and dinning room onthe first floor, and 16 bedrooms, all withprivate facilities.
