Gator Athletics is an integral part
of the University of Florida, which
contributes greatly to the quality
Barbara and I grew up in New York City and
for 37 years we were avid fans of professional
sports of all kinds. We then moved to
Greensboro, North Carolina, the hometown of
Josh Tobias, the rising freshman 3rd baseman
for the Gators. We lived in this beautiful
locale for 26 years. However, this local fan
base focused on high school and college level
sports with five major universities fighting
for everyone’s attention. When we retired, we
looked at Gainesville and the decision was
easy once we arrived in Gainesville for our
first visit!
We now are devoted to college sports and
love it! Who knew that we could experience
“chills” in Florida ten months out of the year.
This “chill” overcomes us when the Pride of
the Sunshine Marching Band gets the crowd
going, the Gator raises its head from the
swamp on the South end zone video board at
football games, as the O’Connell Center goes
dark before the basketball and volleyball
teams are introduced and as the announcer
implores us to stand and greet the baseball
team as he announces “Heeerrre come the
Gators.”
The wonderful ticket office and UAA staffs are
such a delight to work with. For a big time
university they are so friendly and continue
to be such a help to us. Having experienced
life in New York City and its daily rush of
business, it is a breath of fresh air to work
with such caring – customer service focused
folks!
Our love for Gator sports has spread to our
friends in North Carolina who now visit us
regularly and fight over football, basketball
and baseball tickets! Once you experience
the magic of “game day” at UF you can’t get it
out of your system. Barbara and I have been
honored to wear the Orange and Blue for past
three years and thank everyone who has given
us the chance to scream GO GATORS!
