PLANNINGEIGHT PHRASES YOU NEED TO KNOWThe wedding industry has a language of its own, and you’re probably not used to hearing andusing these words every day. We’ve gathered some of the most common and importantphrases to get you started on learning the words and terms you’ll need to understand whenplanning your wedding.The ideal choice for couples who may notwant (or be able to afford) a full-serviceplanner but still want a pro the day of thewedding to assure everything goes smoothly.An employee of the wedding receptionvenue that acts as a liaison between the brideand groom and the venue’s operations team.The role of a venue’s coordinator’s varies, buttypically their focus is solely to deliver theircontracted services and oversee the buildingas a whole.FOOD AND BEVERAGE MINIMUMThis is your contracted minimum spend atyour venue. InFrench, “repondez s’il vous plait” translates to“please reply.” To avoid any last-minute guestlist headaches, require our guests to respond“yes” or “no” at least two to three weeksbefore the wedding.Also known as COI, it’s common practice forevent venues to require vendors working inthe space, especially florists, photographers,caterers and musicians to submit proof ofgeneral liability insurance in the amount ofat least $1 million and to list the venue asadditionally insured for the wedding date.That way, if anything goes wrong, neither thevenue nor you are responsible.Unless provided by your caterer, manyvenues and caterers charge an opening feeper bottle of alcohol, wine or champagne thatyou supply. The price per bottle can rangedrastically, so ask ahead of time about yourvenue’s regulations surrounding alcohol. Thenfactor the additional cost into your budget ifyou plan to bring your own bottles of vino orare envisioning an elaborate champagne toastat the reception.PER-PERSONThe PP that appears next to the pricing yousee on your contracts indicates the cost perguest or per person. You’ll want to keep aneye out for this type of pricing structure onanything that involves your catering or liquorchoices.MARRIAGE LICENSEObtained from a state registrar’s office beforeyour wedding, a marriage license grants youpermission to legally wed. After the signedlicense is filed, you’ll receive a marriagecertificate as record of your union.1 1
