THE DRESSBefore you head to your local bridal shop, favorite bridal store chain, or bridal warehouse, takea moment to consider the theme and location of your wedding as well as your own personal,everyday style. This will help you narrow your search. For example, a princess wedding dresswith a long train may be beautiful, but not well-suited to a breezy destination wedding on thebeach. Strapless wedding dresses may fit the standard idea of what you think a bridal dressshould be, but the time of year or location of your venue may make wedding dresses withstraps, sleeves, or a jacket more practical.While considering these factors will certainly help you narrow the field, the most importantfactors in trimming down your search are your personal style and which silhouettes make youfeel the most confident. If you hate lace, and curve-hugging dresses make you feelself-conscious, it is probably safe to assume that all lace-covered, form fitting wedding dressescan be crossed off the list. THE DRESSWHAT TO WEAR TO THE SALONWhat you wear under the dress can make a hugedifference in how the dress fits and looks. Beforeheading to the bridal salon to find your dress, put somethought behind the type of under-things you’re going toneed for your wedding day.BRAEven if you think you want straps on your gown, you’lllikely still end up trying on a dress or two withoutstraps, or with a different neckline. We recommendwearing or bringing a strapless bra with you. This willhelp you see what the dresses look like without your brastraps in the way. It’s fine to go out and shop for a newbra after you’ve found the dress, but avoid bringing orwearing an old one that is falling apart and doesn’t makethe girls look their best. You can put it back on when youget home. We understand.UNDERWEARA marathon of trying on wedding dresses isn’t the timeto be distracted by panty lines or the peek of hot pinklace. Don’t go completely granny panty on us, but weara simple pair of underwear. Something close to yourskin-tone if you have it. You’ll thank us later.SHAPEWEARIf you’re considering using shapewear under your dress,bring that with you to your dress consultations. Notall dress fabrics work well with shapewear, it’s best tolearn what works and what doesn’t before you makeyour decision.SHOESWe recommend bringing along a pair of shoes that area similar height to what you plan on wearing on the bigday. Most bridal boutiques have shoes you can borrowwhen trying on dresses, but we prefer something weown rather than something that doesn’t fit, isn’t thecorrect height, or isn’t your style.1 7
