Friday triples on <strong>August</strong><br />

On Saturday, 24 players<br />
were to the go to the Timaru<br />
Bowling Club for our annual<br />
winter challenge, but it was<br />
decided it was prudent to<br />
cancel this,inlight of the<br />
uncertaintyofcovid<br />
requirements.<br />
Owing tothis, theusual<br />
Saturday games are to be<br />
transferred to the next day.<br />
It has been averydifficult<br />
season for those organizing<br />
these tournaments and we<br />
allappreciatethe waythe<br />
players have cooperated<br />
withthem.<br />
On the<strong>August</strong>30the Mid<br />
Canterbury sub centre is<br />
holding afundraising<br />
tournament at the Allenton<br />
green, single entries from<br />
allclubs arewelcome. All<br />
clubs have been notifiedof<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong>on<strong>August</strong> 5, with<br />
Club President Roger<br />
Paterson onceagain at the<br />
helm.<br />
Themeeting targeted and<br />
evaluatedthe coverage of<br />
clubprojects. President<br />
Roger requested the club’s<br />
subcommittee groups<br />
consider doing more hands<br />
on projects in thefuture<br />
and not expect afinancial<br />
return. Roger also<br />
requested members<br />
consider how to celebrate<br />
the club’s 60th yearinthree<br />
years’ time.<br />
Visitors to the meeting<br />
included David Robertson<br />
and Simon Schubert.<br />
Health and welfare of<br />
members was discussed<br />
withsomepertinentand<br />
interesting points made. A<br />
tribute waspaidtoformer<br />
clubmember BruceFlett<br />
who passed away as aresult<br />
of aboating accident in July<br />
of this year. Clubmembers<br />
were urged to considerthe<br />
hearingimpaired when<br />
speakingatmeetings as this<br />
factorcan be apossible<br />

attending meetings. Best<br />
wishes were extended to<br />
Richard Giller who has<br />
adopted aretiredlion<br />
status. Theclubwishes<br />

Lance Schubert received<br />
the International<br />
President’s Award for<br />
holdingthe president office<br />
during the Lions 100th year<br />
of service throughout the<br />
world. Andy McKee gave a<br />
lighthearted and<br />
interesting threeminute<br />
speech.<br />
Unanimous support was<br />
given to club member Garth<br />
Bateup’s nominationfor<br />
2ndViceDistrict Governor.<br />
Garth stated his motivation<br />
fortaking this step was to<br />
make adifferenceto<br />
people’s livesinMid<br />
Canterbury. Max Cawte has<br />
agreed to accept the<br />
position of 2nd Vice<br />
President for the Club and<br />
this too was warmly<br />
received.<br />
The Bill Doak Cup, for<br />
Mid Canterbury Lions<br />
Clubs’ fundraising efforts<br />
and results,was awarded to<br />
our club.<br />
The annual golf<br />
tournamentistobeheld on<br />
ThursdayOctober 8, 11am<br />

eight. It is good to see our<br />
players taking part in these<br />
tournaments and to seehow<br />
well they are doingagainst<br />

We have only one more<br />
