Young performers enjoying workshops<br />

There’s no big annual<br />

production this year because of<br />

the covid situation, but<br />

performers associated with Mid<br />

Canterbury Children’s Theatre<br />

(MCCT) are learning and having<br />

fun off stage.<br />

Some 40 students, aged from<br />

seven to 18,are enjoying<br />

coming together and learning at<br />

weekly performance<br />

workshops.<br />

The workshops are being run<br />

by the directing team who<br />

would have beeninvolved in<br />

thisyear’s postponed<br />

production of The Little<br />

Mermaid.<br />

Director Cherie Livingstone,<br />

musical director Jo Castelow<br />

andchoreographer have been<br />

passing on advice to students<br />

who have splitinto three<br />

groups.<br />

Each group hastaken asong<br />

and using it to learn the<br />

intricacies of performance and<br />

stage craft.<br />

were all set to start forThe<br />

LittleMermaid in Marchwhen<br />

the covid lockdown struck.<br />

Around 70 studentshad<br />

indicatedakeen interest in<br />

joining theproductionand a<br />

number hadbeenvery<br />

disappointed when the decision<br />

hadbeenmade to postponeit<br />

for12months.<br />

Some performers had been<br />

part of theMCCTfamily for 10<br />

years and this year wouldhave<br />

been their finalchance to<br />

perform.<br />

later thatitwould be great for<br />

the kidstohang outand to direct<br />

thatenthusiasm into practising<br />

their performance skills.’’<br />

MCCT hasbeenusingthe<br />

Tinwald School Hall for the<br />

weekly twohour workshops.<br />

It hasbeen part of the<br />

communityfor 36 years.<br />
