Luxury Alaska tour boat gets new lease on life<br />
Alaska’s 342-passenger catamaran Klondike Express, was recently repowered<br />
with two EPA Tier 2 <strong>MTU</strong> 16V 4000 M63L engines producing a combined 4,480<br />
kW (6,004 bhp). They propel the 42 m (137 ft) vessel quickly at speeds up to<br />
36.2 knots. “The new <strong>MTU</strong> engines will reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by about<br />
five million pounds annually,” according to captain Gary Sommerfeld. “The engine<br />
noise is half <strong>of</strong> what it was originally,” adds the manager <strong>of</strong> marine operations;<br />

<strong>MTU</strong> Onsite Energy gensets for Aggretech<br />
Fifty distributed power generation plants powered by gas engines will be going<br />
to the Bavarian genset manufacturer Aggretech. Aggretech is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>MTU</strong> Onsite<br />
Energy’s existing customers for diesel-powered gensets. This is the largest single<br />
order for gas-powered gensets ever received by <strong>MTU</strong> Onsite Energy. The first ten<br />
units are scheduled for delivery by the end <strong>of</strong> 2011 with the remainder going to<br />
Aggretech by the middle <strong>of</strong> next year. (aka)<br />
