US Navy Visit 

US Navy Comes to Town 

The USS Abraham Lincoln, a CVN 72 Nimitz-Class Super Carrier, powered by two nuclear reactors, 

cruised in for a layover on Saturday at the nearby Laem Chabang Port. The good news for businesses 

in Pattaya was that the US Navy granted shore leave to over 5,000 sailors to visit the city of fun 

Pattaya and surrounding areas for 5 days. This stopover meant that millions of baht also visited 

Pattaya during their Rest and Recreation (R&R) stay, with young navy officers seen walking around the 

city and visiting restaurants and many of the attractions that Pattaya has to offer. 

The USS Abraham Lincoln is named after a most famous past US President. The ship was launched on 

13th February 1988 and was commissioned on the 11th November 1989 at a cost of four and a half billion 

US Dollars. The Abraham Lincoln was the first aircraft carrier to integrate female aviators into the crew. 

Despite its age, the ship remains very impressive. Its length is the size of 3 football fields. It is 1,092 

feet long (332 meters). With a width of 252 feet (76.8 meters) and carrying a crew of 3,200 and 2,480 

aircraft officers! It underwent a major refit in 2007. In fact, the whole ship was painted by the crew 

rather than wait for contractors to do the job. The massive aircraft carrier holds 85 fighter jets and 

helicopters, and some of these were used in 1991’s Operation Desert Storm against Saddam Hussein’s 

invasion of Kuwait. Indeed, it was on the Abraham Lincoln docked at San Diego in 2003, during the 

invasion of Iraq that President George W. Bush proclaimed that hostilities in Iraq had ended and it was 

“mission accomplished”, when of course as everyone now knows the terrorist bombings carried on for 

years before the troops finally left duty in Iraq this past year. This is the second visit of the USS 

Abraham Lincoln carrier to Laem Chabang and Pattaya, as its first stopover was on April 20th , 

2006 – let’s hope it won’t be too long before they are back! 

Bed Race 

Here Comes the Fourth Pattaya International Bed Race 

Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Aegasing chaired a meeting on 

Wednesday at City Hall to prepare all relevant authorities for the 

upcoming 4th Pattaya International Bed Race. Last year’s Bed 

Race received huge media attention and is now an annual event 

on the Pattaya Calendar receiving international coverage on TV, 

Internet and Print all around the world. This year’s amazing and 

energetic event will be held on Sunday, 29 th January along 

Pattaya Beach Road.The bed race will start at the front of 

Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall and finish on Walking Street. 

The Bed Race has been a very successful fund raiser for the past 

3 years, and is held in cooperation with Pattaya City Hall, Pattaya 

Rotary Club and Pattaya People Media Group. The CEO of the 

PPMG, Mr. Niels Colov, also attended the meeting to discuss 

many factors, including traffic and crowd control, services for 

the event and security. The money raised from the bed race will 

go to several Rotary Club charities in the city, as there are still 

many shelters and homes which need donations to be able to 

help less fortunate folk. So if you want to be part of Pattaya 

International Bed Race 2012, then please come down to Pattaya 

People Media Group office and register. The registration fee for 

each Bed Team is 5,000 baht. A whole day’s occasion is planned 

with lots of entertainment including a bed parade which will 

business associates who came along with gifts and flowers and to share in the lady’s 50 th 

birthday anniversary with a fine buffet and live entertainment throughout the night.

is to provide Pattaya with a family oriented fun event to help 

promote a positive image of our city, and to raise funds for 

charities organized by the Rotary Club of Pattaya.

A-CORNER Restaurant 

This week’s culinary excursion was out to a restaurant on the 

dark side in East Pattaya. 

Why they call it the dark side is a mystery, since the area is a 

gastronomic oasis with some very good restaurants, some of 

which can justly rival many fine restaurants in central and south 

Pattaya. 

The restaurant in question is called A-Corner that serves up a 

fine menu of authentic German and Thai cuisine. It is located 

outside the Pattaya Paradise Village 2 on Soi Mapyailia, which 

runs between the far end of both Soi Khao Talo (which is nearer) 

and Soi Nern Plub Wan off Sukhumvit Road. 

Open just under a year, and run by Thai restaurateur Khun 

Wanrudee, this no frills yet extremely clean venue is what one 

would expect from a typical German style restaurant. 

It is stark on decor but is comfortable and offers a small selection 

of good quality dishes at astonishingly low prices. And typical of 

traditional German restaurants, A-Corner serves up plentiful portions 

to satisfy the hungriest of diners’ appetites. 

The menu offers a selection of all day breakfasts from 60 baht 

for Jam and Toast to 150 baht for a typical German feast of Cold 

Cuts of Meat and Salami, Cheese and Eggs. All day snacks are 

available such as 95 baht for Currywurst Sausage or Smoked 

Salmon with Egg and Onion on German Rye Bread at 130 baht. 

They also have a very tasty and filling Pea Soup at 75 baht. 

For main course there is an excellent German style Beef 

(Roulade) Roll with Red Cabbage and Dumplings at 225 baht, 

Wiener Schnitzel with Fries at 160 baht and for lovers of German 

Sausages there are very good meaty Wiener Frankfurters or 

Bratwurst with homemade Potato Salad at 140 baht. 

We sampled the Currywurst Sausages; being two extremely long 

meaty offerings, perfectly seasoned and served with homemade 

Dumplings. Equally good was the generous portion of Smoked 

Salmon on Rye with Egg and Onion Rings. 

For main course we had to try the German style Beef Roulade, a 

really tasty combination of flattened thin slices of top quality 

Sirloin Beef Steak filled with Vegetables and Pickles, then browned 

on all sides and served with delicious Red Cabbage and Dumplings 

and Red Wine Sauce. 

Finally to end the meal we tried a very satisfyingly tasting Schnitzel 

Pork Steak covered with an excellent Mushroom Sauce (195 

baht). 

The Thai cuisine available is plentiful and is quite reasonably 

priced with dishes around 100 baht and the popular Tom Yam 

Khung (Spicy Prawn and Lemongrass Soup) at 90 baht for a bowl 

filled with freshly cooked Prawns. 

There is a wide range of Beers such as Heineken at 60 baht or 

Chang at 45 baht and good house red and white Wine at 75 baht 

a glass. 

For lovers of sport you might like to know that German Football 

is broadcasted live every Saturday and Sunday from 8.30pm. 

So, if you are ever in the area, call in at the A-Corner Restaurant 

and enjoy a hearty satisfying good value meal – German

Narate Buntee was asked to 

investigate the death of 

Mr. Vincent Owen Jones, aged 

74 from England. The man was 

found deceased in his bed, in a 

house located in Sattahip. 

Mr. Vincent was lying in bed as 

if he had just fallen sleep. 

There was no foul play evident, 

but there was a large amount 

of medicine and medical 

breathing equipment by the 

bedside. His Thai wife Mrs. 

Chutiyapa Jones, age 29, 

stated that they had been 

married for 10 years, and he 

had been suffering from last 

stage Lung Cancer for a while.

enhancing visit to the Sriracha 

Tiger Zoo, supported by the 

Tourism Authority of Thailand 

(TAT). The contestants were 

amazed by the animals’ 

performances and quite 

excited when they had a 

chance to sit on the back of a 

crocodile. The lovely ladies then 

had a chance to feed a baby 

tiger, watch a pig compute 

figures, and take part in a pig 

race. This was the first time for 

some of the contestants to get 

up close and personal with a 

croc, and no doubt a great 

experience to remember.

cut off to diagnose for the 

disease. The only way to test 

for rabies is on the tissue of

Hotel which is located near Bali 

Hai Pier. The Sawang Boriboon 

Rescue Team was also called for 

assistance. At the scene, 

a foreigner, identified later as 

Mr. Terence Davey, 67 years 

old, from England, was 

discovered dead on the beach. 

The deceased was lying on his 

stomach, wearing a short 

sleeve t-shirt and a pair of 

jeans. No foul play was evident 

to show that he had been 

harmed, and he was estimated

Chalermgiat Sirimark was called 

on Tuesday evening to 

investigate the death of Mr. 

Ahmpoen Cheuamon, aged 26, 

from Bang Saray. The man was 

shot in front of a local grocery 

store by a snooker club, and 

was sent to hospital, but was 

reported dead in the 

ambulance on arrival. At the 

hospital, Mr. Ahmpoen was 

pronounced dead by a gunshot 

wound to his neck, from a .38 

revolver. There was also a 

scratch wound on his right 

knee. At the snooker club, 

there was a big blood stain on 

the ground, but no other 

evidence. His wife Miss 

Wanniga Pitatahn, age 23, 

stated that Ahmpoen had 

to have a few hours prior to 

discovery. Mr. Bunrod 

Nopseeraht, age 32 who 

discovered the body, stated 

that he found Mr. Davey’s body 

while he was walking to work 

and the police guessed that the 

worked as the captain of 

a fishing boat, and left the 

house on Monday morning to 

go to paint the boat, but did 

not return home when the day 

ended. Miss Wanniga had no 

idea about any problems her 

husband might have had, as he 

had never discussed his daily 

man might have been drunk at 

the time, went into the water 

to swim and then drowned. His 

body was sent for an autopsy 

before informing the British 

Embassy for further

S&P 500 sees highest level since July US stocks on the 

Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose to the highest level since July, 

led by commodity, financial and industrial stocks, on speculation 

that China will act to spur economic growth. The S&P 500 climbed 

to 1,292.08 in New York at close of business on Tuesday, toward 

the highest level on a closing basis since July 28, whilst the Dow 

Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.8% to 12,491.08, as 

China’s import growth fell to a 2-year low in December, thus 

bolstering forecasts for monetary easing. ”China is likely to ease 

monetary and fiscal policies in the first half of this year”, JPMorgan 

Chief Market Strategist, David Kelly said. “The U.S. economy 

seems to have momentum. Most companies will surprise on the 

upside and markets will react positively to that”, he also added. 

European stocks in demand on global growth hopes 

The FTSE All-World equity index is up 0.8%, whilst bourses in 

Europe are again seeing gains with the Eurofirst 300 up 0.9%, 

after a strong performance in Asia sparked an upbeat mood. 

Earlier Tuesday, Shanghai surged 2.7% on speculation that Beijing 

will loosen monetary policy to counteract weakening domestic 

demand, after December imports did not match up to expectations. 

On the other hand, weekend data showed that money 

supply in China is growing faster than forecast, as the Chinese 

Government continues to making headway in ensuring that the 

world’s second largest economy does not suffer a hard landing. 

The bulls are therefore now arguing that the global economy 

can indeed overcome the impact of the lingering Euro-zone 

stresses. As a result, assets that traditionally perform well when 

risk appetite is back on, are seeing an influx of funds. The Australian 

dollar, for example, is up 0.8% to $1.0321 and Brent 

crude gained 0.5% to $113.05 a barrel. Conversely, the Dollar 

index is down 0.2% and German Bunds are a tad softer, with 10year 

yields up 2 basis points at 1.868%. Gold to hit $1,940 

an ounce in 2012 - Goldman Goldman Sachs Group, the 

global investment banking and securities firm, has stated that it 

plans to remain “overweight” on commodities as investors seek a 

hedge against Europe’s debt crisis. Head of Commodities Research 

Jeffrey Currie said at the 2012 Strategy Conference in 

London this week that Gold futures on the Comex in New York 

may climb to $1,940 an ounce in 12 months, as US interest rates

for Gold strengthened for most of 2011, as Europe’s debt 

crisis widened and the US Federal Reserve pledged to keep 

interest rates near zero until at least mid-2013. At the time of 

writing, Gold per ounce is priced at $1,636.68. Furthermore, 

Morgan Stanley also named Gold among its top picks, citing that 

the bullion may average a record $2,200 an ounce. However, 

Currie explained that Gold prices are unlikely to move higher 

than $1,940, unless there is a “much weaker real rate environment”

In my experience I have 

seen many foreigners who 

come to Thailand to buy 

the land and house only to 

be informed by a law firm 

or an accounting firm that 

you cannot own the land 

and house yourself. These 

law or accounting firms will 

then make a comment to 

the buyer recommending 

that they transfer the land 

by way of a long lease of 

up to thirty years. Thus 

their hand is forced and 

they have to go through 

with the decision of leasing 

the property. But why 

should this be so? The 

buyer who purchases the 

land from the seller should 

also be the owner of that 

land, why can they not be 

the owner of the land 

when they pay the same 

full amount? But they will 

only possess the land under 

the lease which will still be 

under the name of the 

seller. Actually this situation 

sometimes occurs from an 

accident such as when you 

are setting up a company 

to gain full ownership of 

the land. But when it comes 

to the transfer date and 

you are at the land 

department processing 

your transfer, it doesn’t go 

through because the law 

firm is not professional, the 

documentation in support 

of the company is not 

accepted or a host of other 

reasons that will not permit 

the transfer of ownership 

to your company. After 

you get to this point you 

will be forced to decide to 

leasehold the land or get 

nothing. Another thing you 

should know is the amount 

you have to pay for the 

leasehold is more than the 

amount of the freehold or 

the purchase of that land, 

normally if you leasehold 

land it should be cheaper 

than buying in full. 

I get a lot of questions from 

foreigners who have leased 

the land like this and what 

we recommend is to have 

the ownership rights 

transferred back to the 

company if the owner is 

willing. The first step of this 

process is to terminate the 

leasehold and also to 

register the freehold under 

the title deed in the same 

day. If the owner of the 

land does not allow you to 

register it under your 

company then you can sue 

them in court and if 

successful the court will 

enforce them to terminate 

the leasehold and to 

transfer the ownership to 

your company. 

LAWYER COMMENT: 

If you have the chance, 

plan ahead and make sure 

what you want to do, but 

if you are in the bad 

situation like above you will 

have to pay more expenses 

such as lawyer fees and 

court fees to get the 

ownership back, but it is still 

possible. Before you use 

any law or 

accounting firm, listen to 

them and make sure that 

they have the proper 

knowledge and experience 

to give you advice and that 

you understand them 

perfectly. If you are unsure 

try to find other 

competitors until you find 

one that makes your mind 

clear and then choose 

between them. If you have 

a chance to make sure what 

you want to do, but if you 

do wrong already like this

Afgelopen week was onze 

landgenoot Paul W. de sigaar 

tijdens een landelijke 

alcoholcontrole. Dit gebeurd 

maar zelden in Pattaya,maar 

meestal 2 keer per jaar. Met 

Songkran en tijdens de week 

van oud en nieuwjaar waar er 

altijd vele doden zijn te betreuren. 

Thailand kent ruim 9000 

dodelijke verkeers slachtoffers 

per jaar waarvan ruim 5000 door 

overmatig alcoholgebruik, 

waarna men er meestal van door 

gaat. Dit is een zwaar 

misdrijf,dus denk er maar niet 

aan. Expats of liever farangs 

genoemd hier in Thailand krijgen 

doorgaans de zwarte Piet toe 

gespeelt bij een ongeval. Zorg 

dat u het alarmnummer van de 

verzekering bij u hebt en laat 

deze z.s.m. komen,en vervoer uw 

auto of bromfiets niet, want dan 

kunt u ook raar op de koffie 

komen,ook al is deze handeling 

nog zo goed bedoeld. Zorg ook 

altijd dat u uw rijbewijs bij u hebt 

evenals een kopie van uw 

paspoort,wat een must is bij een 

ongeval. Teken nooit iets zonder 

eerst te hebben gesproken met 

uw verzekerings deskundige. 

Maar bij overmatig alcohol 

gebruik bent u tegenwoordig de 

sigaar. Onze landgenoot Paul W. 

had 3 biertjes gedronken en dit 

was een teveel want de 

blaastest kwam uit op 0,71 

promille. Hij werd gearresteerd 

en moest bijna 11 uur lang staan 

in een overvolle 

politiecel,waarna hij een 

borgtocht moest betalen van 

20.000 baht. Hij verzocht de 

ambassade te bellen maar dit 

werd hem afgewezen door een 

politie volonteer, want Thaise 

officials dulden geen inmenging 

van buitenaf,ook al omdat men 

weinig Engels spreekt. 

Vervolgens werd Paul W. onder 

politie escorte vervoerd na een 

politieburo in Na Jomtien om 

vingerafdrukken te maken.Hij 

moest een aantal formulieren 

tekenen in Thais en hij vertelde 

mij dat hij zelfs de ergste 

verklaring had willen tekenen om 

uit deze hel te komen. Daarna 

onder escorte vervoerd naar de 

rechtbank waar de rechter hem 

veroordeelde tot 3000 baht. 

Meneer heeft dus een strafblad 

in Thailand voor het drinken van 

een biertje teveel. De meeste 

thais waren na 2 uur al vrij na 

een borgtocht van 10.000 

baht,en hier wordt dus ook 

duidelijk met 2 maten gemeten. 

In een eerder lawsymposium 

verklaarde alle rechters dat wij 

dezelfde rechten hebben als 

een Thai. Niets is minder waar 

dat weten de meesten ook 

wel,al moet ik wel een 

onderscheid maken tussen de 

heren rechters en politie en 

emigratie. Met een strafblad rijker 

kon Paul W. nog even 2 keer 

terug komen om zijn borg cheque 

in ontvangst te nemen. 

Belangrijk is ook altijd dat een 

goede vriend of bekende bij jou 

geld en paspoort kan in 

noodgevallen. Maar het kan nog 

veel erger aflopen wanneer men 

een ernstig ongeluk heeft 

veroorzaakt. Is het slachtoffer 

langer dan 21 dagen 

arbeidsongeschikt, dan wordt de 

aanklacht omgezet in een 

misdrijf. Een landgenoot is al 2 

jaar aan het procederen om het 

land uit te komen want zijn 

paspoort is in beslag 

genomen,en er ligt een 

schadeclaim en beslag op zijn 

condo. Allemaal vervelende 

zaken waar men verre van weg 

moet blijven.Werd afgelopen 

weken dan ook weer 

overspoeld met problemen en

problemen. Een noodzakelijke 

PSA test is zeer aan te bevelen 

voor personen bovende 40 jaar, 

maar een must boven de 50 jaar. 

Hogere waarden dan boven de 

4 betekent niet dat u perse 

prostaat kanker heeft, maar 

indien uw waarde boven de 10 

ligt is de kans veel groter dat uw 

prostaat kanker heeft.U moet 

zich dan ook dringend laten 

onderzoeken via een DRE 

test.(Ditigal Rectal Examination) 

Een aanvullende test US KUB 

is dan ook zeer aan te vevelen. 

Deze ultrasound geeft dan ook 

meer informatie van uw 

nieren,urinewegen en

Voor vrouwen zijn de

HART Klachten 

Heel belangrijk voor iedereen is 

dat men elk jaar een 

electrocardiogram doet. Dit is de 

eenvoudigste en goedkoopste 

opsporingsmethode voor het 

opsporen van hart en vaat 

ziekten,meestal onstaan door 

een te hoog chlorestorol, en of 

suikergehalte. Ook teveel stress 

is een killer voor je body, en moet 

je zoveel mogenlijk proberen te 

vermijden.Ook is het 

noodzakelijk voor oudere 

personen om een jaarlijkse 

Excersise Stress Test te doen. 

Men kan dan gedurende de test 

op de loopband de bloeddruk 

volgen, evenals de 

vernauwingen in de hart en 

kransslagaders. Indien men last 

heeft van stijve benen of armen 

is het noodzakelijk een ABI test, 

het meten van bloeddruk op 

beide polsen en enkels om 

stijfheid en vernauwing van de 

aders in de armen en benen op 

te sporen. Komt heel veel voor 

bij personen boven de 55 

jaar.Ook hoor ik vaak problemen 

in Pattaya waar SOA’S meer 

voorkomen dan in hun eigen 

land.Vraag gerust om een 

HIV,Hepatitus A/B/cHPV of 

VDRL (syphilis) test. Sex is niet 

alleen belangrijk voor mensen 

maar ook voor dieren. Mensen 

en dolfijnen zijn de enigen die 

seks bedrijven om er plezier aan 

te beleven.Nu snap ik ook 

waarom flipper altijd lacht. Maar 

die varkens zijn toch echte 

bofkonten want een orgasme 

van een varken duurt 30 

minuten, en sommige leeuwen 

doen het wel 50 keer per dag. 

In mijn volgend leven dan toch 

maar een varken want kies voor 

kwaliteit i.p.v. kwantiteit.

For førstegangsgæster i 

Pattaya og andre interesserede 

bringer vi her lidt statistik og 

kendsgerninger om vor 

strålende by. 

Pattaya City (Meuang Pattaya) 

er en selvstyrende by, der 

dækker hele Tambon Nong Prue 

og Na Kluea og dele af Huai Yai 

og Nong Pla Lai. Pattaya city er 

blevet administreret efter et 

særligt autonomt system siden 

1978. Den har en status 

svarende til en kommune, og 

administreres af borgmesteren 

Khun Ittipon Kunblume, der er 

ansvarlig for byens ledelse, 

tilrettelæggelse af offentlige 

tjenester og overvågning af 

Pattaya City administration. 

Navnet Pattaya stammer fra 

Phraya Tak (senere kong 

Taksin) og hans hærs march fra 

Ayutthaya til Chanthaburi, der 

fandt sted før den tidligere 

hovedstad faldt til burmeserne 

i 1767. Da hans hær nåede til i 

nærheden af, hvad nu er 

Pattaya, stødte Phraya Tak på 

Nai Kloms tropper, som 

forsøgte at afskære ham. Da 

de to ledere mødtes ansigt til 

ansigt, var Nai Klom så 

imponeret af Phraya Taks 

værdigige optræden og hans 

hærs strenge disciplin, at han 

overgav sig uden kamp. Stedet 

hvor de to hære mødtes blev 

kaldt Thap Phraya, hvilket 

betyder, Army of the Phraya. 

Dette ændrede sig senere til 

Phatthaya. I dag er byen 

internationalt kendt som 

“Pattaya” (tryk på første 

stavelse ikke anden). Navnet 

Thap Phraya ses stadig i Thap 

Praya Road, som forbinder 

Pattaya og Jomtien. 

I århundreder var Pattaya en 

lille fiskerby. Men ændringen 

kom den 26. april 1961, da den 

første gruppe af omkring 100 

amerikanske soldater, der var 

Udsigt over Pattaya Bay fra Kaow Pratamnak 

på orlov fra Vietnam-krigen 

ankom til Pattaya. Fra denne 

begyndelse, blev Pattaya et 

populært badested, der nu 

tiltrækker over 4 millioner 

besøgende om året. 

Fiskerhytterne langs stranden 

blev erstattet af resort hoteller 

og detailbutikker, herunder 

Asiens største beachfront 

indkøbscenter Central Festival 

Pattaya Beach Mall og hotel 

Hilton beliggende på Beach 

Rd.. Pattaya området kan groft 

deles i 6 zoner. 

Nordpattaya/Nakleua nord for 

Pattaya North Rd. og 

Delfinspringvandet. Dette 

område har mange hoteller,

og er meget frekventeret af 

russere og tyskere. 

Central- og Sydpattaya fra 

Delfinspringvandet til Bali Hai 

Pier. Her findes hovedparten af 

barscenen langs Beach Road, 

Walking Street og Soi Buakaow. 

Der er mange hoteller og 

indkøbscentre som Central 

Festival, Mike Shopping Mall og 

Royal garden Plaza. Her er 

mange gode restauranter og 

cafeer og farang orienterede 

fødevareforretninger som 

Foodland og Friendship 

Supermarket. 

Kaow Pratamnak eller Buddha 

Hill med den store Buddha og 

et kinesisk tempel. Dette er det 

dyreste faste ejendom i 

Pattaya med mange exclusive 

hoteller og og condominiums. 

Pratumnak området har fine 

strande og ikke så mange barer. 

Området er domineret af 

russere. 

Syd for Pratumnak og til den 

Gyldne Hanuman Statue 

kommer et slags 

ingenmandsland mellem 

Pattaya og Jomtien hvor, der 

før ikke skete meget, men hvor 

der nu er mange condominiums 

og restauranter samt ikke at 

forglemme Pattaya Park 

forystelsespark med det 55 

etager høje Pattaya Park Tower 

med roterende restauranter. 

Jomtien fra den Gyldne 

Hanuman Statue og videre syd 

på byder på områdets bedste 

og længste strand, mængder 

af hoteller, condominiums og 

forretninger samt en noget 

mere diskret barscene end selve 

Pattaya. På den anden side af 

Sukhumwit Road ligger 

Ø stpattaya eller, som de lokale 

kalder det, The Dark Side. Mens 

dette område før var noget på 

landet, er det nutildags ikke så 

mørkt endda. Her er mange 

beboelsesområder og

Beboes fortrinsvis af folk, for 

hvem storbyens larm ikke er en 

absolut livsbetingelse. 

Pattaya har også øer. Heraf 

kan nævnes “Near Islands”, Ko 

Larn (hovedøen), Ko Sak og Ko 

Krok ligger 7 km fra Pattayas 

kyst. Ko Larn, eller “Coral 

Island” har dejlige strande, og 

er et populært udflugtsmål. Mu 

Ko Phai “The far islands”, Ko 

Phai (hovedøen), Ko Man 

wichai, Ko Hu Chang og Ko Klung 

Badan, ligger videre til havs fra 

“ Near Islands “, og Ko Rin, 

ligger mod sydvest, syd for Mu 

Ko Phai. Nogle af øerne i 

gruppen er tilgængelige med 

speedbåd på mindre end 15 

minutter og med færge på 

omkring 45 minutter. Mange af 

øerne har offentlige strande og

Not a large group today, but 

could not use the weather as 

an excuse, it was ideal golfing 

conditions at the Pattaya 

Country Club this January 4th. 

A few started off while it was 

barely light out. The course was 

in fairly good condition with 

some brown spots on a few of 

the greens. Coming in to Caddy 

Shack II with a nice 38 was Dale 

Murphy. Hopefully waiting at 

the Shack was Paul Kraft with a 

36; close Paul, but no cigar. 

Paul seems to be getting his 

game back, five pars in the back 

nine. It was good for second 

place. In third place with a 35 

just one short of Paul was Don

Wednesday 4th January: 

Eastern Star (Stableford). 

So Eastern Star, a tough test 

for all the golfers and on this 

day we also had a packed 

Course so we would be able to 

bimble around. As it happened 

after nine holes the group in 

front disappeared so we got 

around quickly, but not without 

having trouble with a tough 

Course. It was not too long ago 

that all the Courses were 

flooded out and the ground 

soggy and wet, well now with 

the lack of rain most Courses 

are bone dry and Eastern Star 

is no different. The fairways 

were hard and the rough wiry 

and difficult and with the wind 

this made for a tough round. 

The greens seemed different, 

some fast and tricky and some 

slower, and of course the 

greens here have never been 

the best in the business.

Khao Kheow Games for Zoo 

Staff 

On Sunday morning the 33 rd 

Khao Kheow Games took place 

in the grounds of this famous 

open zoo. It was organized to 

allow management and animal 

keepers and other staff to 

socialize and have a fun day of 

playing games and sporting 

activities. A total of 483 people 

took part and were divided into 

4 colour coded teams, and 

games played included football, 

petanque, badminton and 

volley ball. There was also a 

marathon bicycle race taking in 

7 kilometers around the zoo.

BOWLING GREEN 

January 10: Crystal Bay. 

The first game in 2012 took 

place on the immaculately 

manicured course of Crystal 

Bay. This is a course that is not 

too difficult which paired with a 

beautiful day made for a very 

pleasant round on the links. 

Today’s winner with 37 points 

was Alan Hodges, followed by 

Roger White who is usually to 

be found in the top flight. NTP’s 

were won by Roger Privett (2), 

Eddie Martin (1) and Victor 

Wolton (1). Next week will be 

played on the challenging 

course of Greenwood.

Monday 2nd January 

Treasure Hill Stableford 

No one managed to better their 

handicap on the day, and most 

agreed that once again the 

course came out the winner. 

The best performance of the 

day came from newcomer 

Stephen Roche who showed the 

old hands how to do it. William 

Macey scored a creditable 21 

points on the back nine to take 

3rd place on a countback from 

unlucky Reg Smart.

Mashi and William shared the 

best score of the day on 38 

points to win the A and B flights 

respectively. A monitor lizard 

made an appearance on the 12 th 

hole, but the star attraction of 

the day was William scoring 21 

points on the front nine (with 2 

“blobs”), and sinking two 

outrageously long putts on the 

treacherous greens. Mashi 

continued his run of good form 

(winning 4 of his last 5 games) 

to take the honours in the A 

flight.

the Bunker Bar, the Bunker Boys 

now play out of the Bowling 

Green on Soi X-Zyte between 

3 rd Road and Soi Buakhao. We 

play three times per week on 

Mondays, Wednesdays, and 

Fridays. We meet at the 

Bowling Green at 9 a.m. for 

breakfast and transportation, 

and new players with valid 

handicaps are always welcome.

Monday, 9th January 

Plutaluang West & North 

Stableford. After two late 

cancellations we were down to 

37 starters for our monthly trip 

to the popular but tough 

Plutaluang layout. The weather 

was great with a stiff breeze 

which made the West nine even 

more difficult at times but the 

nines that we played were in 

terrific condition, especially the 

greens which were the best I 

have ever seen them in 23 

years of playing the course. 

There were 2 flights with A 

Flight for handicaps 0 to 19 and 

B Flight for 20 and over. The 

going was tough for most on 

the day as not one golfer managed 

to play better than their 

handicap and there were many 

more scores in the twenties 

than in the thirties. Frankie 

Sharratt mentioned to me last 

week that he had been coming 

to Pattaya to play golf for 16 

years and he had never won a 

competition but this day was his 

“day in the sun”. On a count 

back with 36 points (18 on the 

back nine) he won the A Flight 

from Rob Brown (17 point back 

nine) and San Miguel Stu Rifkin 

finished third on 33 points. In a 

count back for fourth & fifth on 

31 points Ken Bernek (17 point 

back nine) edged out Mike 

Gosden (15 point back nine) 

with yours truly (Peter 

Blackburn) scraping into sixth 

FAIRWAY GOLF SOCIETY 

Fri 6th Jan Royal Lakeside 

Everybody agreed that it was 

well worth the journey today 

to play this course. As it is in 

excellent condition and the 

facilities are first rate. We also 

virtually had the course to 

ourselves which was surprising, 

as it is such good value for 

money at the moment. 

Pier Cere carried on with his fine 

run of form to take the A flight 

with 40pts from Karl Flood in 

second spot on 36pts while 

Shane Ruddle limped in with 

34pts to fill third place. Bob 

Poole ran away with the B flight 

on 37pts from Ken Meek 34pts, 

while Tony Duthie pipped Toby 

O’Niel for third place on a back 

nine count back of 15-14. Near 

Pins went to Pier Cere – Jon 

Lay – Tony Duthie & Karl Flood. 

MULLIGANS LAKESIDE 

The commencement of a new 

year, and as it was a Public 

Holiday, we took advantage of 

Rayong C.C.’s realistic fee 

structure. The course has dried 

out significantly & despite the 

best efforts of the greens staff, 

they could do with the bit of 

rain that fell during our round. 

Having said that, the course is 

eminently playable & is the 

same for everybody on the day. 

Ray Spence (16) showed he 

has been needing some 

competition to bring out his 

best, either that or he was 

showing off in front of his visitors, 

Tony & Elaine, posting a 

strong 40 points. Well clear of 

2nd & 3rd place getters Brian 

Maddox (20) & Jeff Wylie (8), 

both with 33 points, Brian 

getting the nod with a 19/15 

countback. Near Pins were 

shared around between Allan, 

Jeff & visitor Tony, with 1 going 

Frankie Sharratt, The Admiral and Graham Buckingham. 

spot on 30 points. B Flight was 

easily won by Graham 

Buckingham on 36 points, 5 

points clear of Urs Zwicky in 

second place. A two way count 

back was necessary to decide 

third & fourth places with 

Bjarne Kjaer (17 point back 

nine) just beating Dick Warberg 

(14 point back nine), both having 

30 points. In a three way 

count back for fifth & sixth 

spots Jerry Dobbs (18 point 

back nine) beat Jan Lovgreen 

(14 point back nine). Both golfers 

had 29 points along with 

Kevin Dinan (12 point back nine) 

who just missed out on a podium 

finish.
