Bus lane works now complete
WORK TO improve bus journey
times along busy Main North Rd
has now finished.
Contractor City Care has been
working since the beginning of
the year to install a northbound
bus lane on Main North Rd
between Winston Ave and
Sawyers Arms Rd.
They had to temporarily
halt work during the Covid-19
lockdown which meant the
project has taken longer than
the six months originally
envisaged.
“The Covid-19 lockdown did
unfortunately cause some delays
but the contractors have now
largely completed the work,’’ said
city council transport planning
and delivery manager Lynette
Ellis.
“They have installed the
northbound bus lane, put in new
traffic lights at the intersection of
Main North Rd and Grassmere
St, and made layout changes to
the entrance of the Northlands
Shopping Centre.
“These changes should improve
the safety and efficiency
of the transport network and
make it easier for buses to travel
up and down Main North Rd,’’
said Ellis.

CONCLUSION: Construction on Main North Rd to make way for new bus lanes has now
finished, a few months after the original completion date due to delays caused by Covid-19.

NO-STOPPING
No-stopping restrictions have
been approved on the south
side of Prestons Rd, between
the Hills Rd and Marshland
Rd intersections. The approval
follows requests from the
community to review safety
issues as pedestrians had to
traverse between parked cars
while walking in the area due to
their proximity to the footpath.
WASTEWATER RENEWALS
Construction has now started on
Onslow St to replace wastewater
pipes, which are part of the St
Albans Wastewater Renewal
Project. They are being replaced
because the existing wastewater
pipes have reached the end of
their service life. Vehicle access
to properties may be restricted.
The works are expected to be
completed by mid-October.
BUS STOP ADJUSTMENTS
Adjustments to improve bus
stop facilities at 60 Shirley Rd,
adjacent to Shirley Intermediate
School has now started. Works
include footpath replacement,
renewal of the bus stop shelter,
moving of the kerb and channel
and the installation of a doublebus
bay. On-street parking will
be temporarily unavailable.
Construction is expected to be
completed within two weeks.

Dan enlisted into the NZ Army at the age of 18 and completed
an Auto Heavy Engineering apprenticeship. After several years in
this role, Dan moved up through the ranks and took on various
mentoring, training and logistics management roles.
Dan believes that every New Zealander deserves the
opportunity to reach their full potential and have a share in the
Kiwi dream of home ownership, world class health care and a
well-paid job. Dan is passionate about the trades and believes
that apprenticeships are vital to business and the economy. Dan
is committed to improving pathways for young people to get
into apprenticeships and for businesses to take on apprentices.
With the NZDF, Dan has served on several operational tours,
including two to Afghanistan. It is these experiences that have
helped shape Dan’s views on the importance of equality, social
justice and providing opportunities for everyone to get ahead.
Some of Dan’s career highlights include deploying as part
of the regional assistance mission to the Solomon Islands
in 2008 and providing disaster relief to Christchurch after
the 2011 earthquakes. Most recently, Dan was involved with
the coordination and distribution of essential supplies into
Kaikoura immediately after the earthquake.
Dan and his wife Sheree have two young children
and live in the Woodend region.
