RAY WHITE PAPANUI NEWS
Help Ray White Papanui support
Ronald McDonald House families this
Christmas
The festive season is nearly upon us for
2020 and with your support the Ray
White Papanui “A Little Ray of Giving”
will bring the magic of Christmas to
families staying at the Christchurch
Ronald McDonald House this holiday
season. Each year over 400 families
need to stay with Ronald McDonald
House Charities (RMHC) New Zealand
over Christmas while their child is in a
hospital away from home. These families
are away from their support network of
family and friends and often don’t have
time to think about Christmas presents.
Drop a present into our office at Level 1,
7 Winston Avenue, Papanui from
1 December and we’ll make sure it gets to
a family spending Christmas at the Ronald
McDonald House this year.
Ronald McDonald House have given us a
few gifting tips to share with you:
• Gifts must be new - no used or pre-loved
items please
• The families will need to travel home
after their stay at the House (often by
plane), so small gifts that are easy to pack
are the best
• Kids aren’t the only ones who deserve
Christmas presents. Gifts for babies,
teenagers, mums and dads are also greatly
needed!
Please also deliver your gifts unwrapped
or with a label on them for who the gift
Recent times have seen a wave of DIYers willing to give a few
jobs around their home a try. While we think it is fantastic for
you to be involved in improving your home, there are a few
things you must do before undertaking a DIY project, to ensure
your safety and ensure the continuity of your home is not
compromised.
1. Check For Asbestos This is not something that even builders
leave to chance. Each and every renovation we take on, we
have professionals come on-site and check for the presence
of asbestos. There are simply too many variables for this to be
left to chance, and your mate really can’t know for sure if there
is asbestos present or not. Spend the small amount, and have
someone come out and check for you and if necessary, safely
remove. Don’t leave this one to chance or a mate’s opinion.
2. Check For Services There have been many call-outs for jobs
gone wrong where a DIYer has taken on the task of demolition
or digging a trench only to find they have hit a water pipe. This
is not only costly to fix but dangerous for all involved. You can
obtain information about your services from your council,
or again hire a professional to attend the site and make the
necessary checks for you. Believe me, it will cost far less for this
small call-out fee than to pay to fix things up!
3. Check For Load Bearing Walls Before you go ahead and
begin demolition, be sure that the walls you want to take out are
not load-bearing. Don’t be the DIYer who has started to take out
the wall only to realise it was load-bearing halfway through the
job. Again with some professional advice before you begin, you
can be sure that the work you wish to undertake is safe to do so.
might be suitable for, ie. teenager, mum,
girl aged 10-12 years etc, this means their
volunteers can make sure they can be
gifted to the appropriate person.
Please deliver your gifts to our office at
Ray White Papanui, Level 1,
7 Winston Avenue from the 1st of
December (Black and White Coffee cafe
is downstairs if you are trying to find us!).
The last day for gifts to be delivered is
5.30pm, Wednesday 16 December.
Thank you for your kind support, we know
the House and the families staying there
this Christmas will really appreciate it.
Congratulations
Estelle!
We are so excited and proud to announce
that one of our senior property
managers has just achieved her Level 4
Certificate in Property Management -
Congratulations Estelle!
Estelle has worked very hard to achieve
this qualification and says that while
challenging, she has really enjoyed
learning even more about property
management. “It has certainly been
a lot of hard work, but the end result
is so rewarding. I can now offer my
clients even more inside knowledge, and
expertise which is so very important in
the current climate, with ever changing
legislation,” she says.
As part of our commitment to our
landlords and tenants we need to be
constantly upskilling and adding extra
tools to our resources. In this industry
we are always learning and pivoting to
encompass the many changes which
come our way. Watch this space for the
next team member currently working
towards this qualification!
5 things you must do before undertaking a DIY project
4. Is A License Required There are many trades in which
a license is required, plumbing, electrical and some of the
carpentry will need to be performed by a licensed professional
to ensure not only your safety, the safety of your home but also
that you comply with the law. If you are not sure if the job you
want to do requires a licensed professional, make a call and ask.
5. Is It Within Your Capabilities? You might be pretty dapper
at most DIY but there are probably a few jobs outside your
capabilities. In these cases, it is far less expensive to outsource
than it is to have a go and then pay for it to be redone. It can be a
challenging discussion with yourself to honestly be sure a job is
within your capabilities, but it really is within your best interests
to ensure it is.
6. Pretty sure you’ll be ok? Try the task on a small scale first,
then decide. DIY is a great way to save money on your project
when approached the right way. Use this simple list to ensure
the job you are about to undertake is right for you and your
home.
