timely manner, Gayle has also<br />
taken the time, on numerous<br />
occasions, to contact the<br />
contact centre when follow up<br />
graffiti removal work is deemed<br />
necessary.<br />
Tag spotters like Gayle<br />
contribute to the successful<br />
outcomes of the Graffiti<br />
Programme and together support<br />
its goal of reducing the impact of<br />
graffiti vandalism. The Graffiti<br />
Programme could not do its<br />
work without its amazing team<br />
of volunteers and appreciates<br />
Gayle’s continuing service in the<br />
community.<br />
Cathi Andrell – Cathi has<br />
assisted the Riccarton West<br />
Community Garden for six years<br />
and volunteers at Te Pataka<br />
Pantry providing rescued food to<br />
the community.<br />
She is a popular team member<br />
and the community enjoy<br />
her friendly banter. Cathi<br />
bags produce for numerous<br />
households with Food Together<br />
Riccarton and following this task,<br />
helps the community cafe by<br />
operating the coffee machine for<br />
the rest of the session.<br />
You can often find Cathi<br />
supporting community<br />
events such as the Riccarton<br />
Community Day and Connect.<br />
She also joins the Riccarton<br />
Community Development<br />
Worker, visiting new people to<br />
the area. Cathi was a founding<br />
member of the Riccarton<br />
Neighbourhood Support Group<br />
and is also a part of a team that<br />
folds the Riccarton Community<br />
<strong>News</strong>letter. For three years<br />
Cathi assisted the Riccarton<br />
Community Church’s Mainly<br />
Music sessions, serving morning<br />
tea to children and their parents.<br />
Cathi leads by example as she<br />
constantly gives her time and<br />
energy for the good of others.<br />
She is greatly appreciated by the<br />
Riccarton community.<br />

Rachael Clemett – Rachael is<br />
a passionate and valued member<br />
of the St John Hornby Youth<br />
Division. Joining the division<br />
seven years ago, Rachael was a<br />
parent helper with the Penguins<br />
Programme, and soon became a<br />
penguin leader.<br />
Over the years Rachael has<br />
progressed to the voluntary role<br />
of assistant divisional manager,<br />
spending many hours providing<br />
direction and support to youth<br />
leaders and members.<br />
Rachael is passionate about<br />
ensuring the smooth running<br />
of the programme, and<br />
provides clear leadership and<br />
communication. She enjoys the<br />
division camps and can always<br />
be found in the kitchen, cooking<br />
and organising meals.<br />
Camps on Mother’s Day<br />
weekend are a special event, as<br />
her family are in attendance<br />
and are also involved with camp<br />
activities.<br />
As a way to build<br />
connections between parents,<br />
Rachael started a parent support<br />
group at Hornby Primary School<br />
in 2012.<br />
She also assisted the school’s<br />
lunch club since it was established<br />
in 2015 until late last year.<br />
Rachael is an amazing person<br />
in the community who would do<br />
anything for others.<br />
She is always willing to help<br />
those in need and does valuable<br />
work behind the scenes.<br />
The St John Hornby Division<br />
greatly appreciate and highly<br />
commend Rachael for her<br />
ongoing and valued service to the<br />
community.<br />
‘I started dancing<br />
when I was four’<br />

Burton still remembered the<br />
first time she saw the Royal New<br />
Zealand Ballet perform and has<br />
closely followed the artistic directors<br />
over the years.<br />
“I started dancing when I was<br />
four and haven’t really stopped<br />
since then,” she said.<br />
“It’s [ballet] just been a part<br />
of my life. The biggest change<br />
in the company over the years<br />
has been the technique of the<br />
dancers. The difficulty just keeps<br />
going up and it’s a much larger<br />
company now.”<br />
Burton and her daughter, Wendy,<br />
had the opportunity to watch<br />
RNZB’s Christmas performance<br />
of The Sleeping Beauty this year at<br />
the Isaac Theatre Royal.<br />
Not only did the pair attend the<br />
opening performance, but they<br />
were also invited as<br />
special guests of the RNZB for a<br />
backstage tour as Burton is planning<br />
a ballet performance at the<br />
village early next year.<br />
She will also be designing all of<br />
the costumes herself next year at<br />
the village showcase.<br />

and her the intricacies of<br />
preparing for a show, how the<br />
costumes were sorted and how<br />
it works behind the scenes at the<br />

RNZB. “We have roughly<br />
330 costumes, but for this<br />
show, we only have two quick<br />
changes which is tricky,” said<br />
Roigard.<br />
However, the day did not<br />
end there. The mother and<br />
daughter also got to meet dancer<br />
Madeleine Graham.<br />
They exchanged stories of their<br />
dancing and performances and<br />
Graham shared back-stage titbits<br />
and tales, and even gave her a<br />
signed pair of pointe shoes.<br />
Although Audrey has never<br />
danced in The Sleeping Beauty<br />
she did perform once in The<br />
Nutcracker.<br />
“I so much wanted to be the<br />
Sugar Plum Fairy but I’m short,<br />
so I ended up dancing Clara,”<br />
said Burton.<br />
