The year of 2020 will go down inhistory as one of the most freakish years of thecentury and beyond.When we started in January, we had thepleasure of singing at the Mass Installation of theRajah Units and Clubs with hopes of this being abanner year. All of the markers were in place to havea great circus, the Potentate’s trips were all lined-up,the Pretzel Bowl, Rajah Shrine Night at the ReadingFightin’ Phils were all set, the annual Imperial Session in Kansas City and theyearly trek to Virginia Beach for MASA was also on the docket.All of the Units and Clubs had plans for another successful year includingmeetings, dinners, ladies’ nights, parades and we had a few performanceengagements lined-up, but then….Covid-19 hit in mid-March and all plans,schedules and outings came to a complete HALT!We all hunkered down for a few months waiting for this nightmare to end,but as the Coronavirus held on, we experienced more misery and more cancellations of not just our own activities, but around theworld. All of our plans were put aside and we all simultaneously held our collective breath waiting for how we would react to a“New Normal.”But, through it all, we did manage to get back to a somewhat regular life, perhaps not eating out as much as we did pre-Covid-19, but cooking at home and taking long walks around our neighborhoods became a part of our daily lives. The end is stillnot in sight, but at least we do have a clearer picture of where we are going from here with a vaccine on the horizon and protocolsin place, including the wearing of masks, gloves and using plenty of hand sanitizer - all precautions needed to keep us all safe toavoid contacting this dreaded disease ourselves.I can assure you that the Chanters have been taking necessary precautions, too, when we meet and rehearse at the RajahComplex. Although we have had all of our engagements cancelled, except for our appearance in October in the Halloween paradein Pine Grove, we have managed to gather together a core group that has been rehearsing for our participation at the Rajah MassInstallation Ceremony this coming January.As this year draws to a close, with our President Dwayne Miller, we would like to thank our Potentate, Ill. Sir Marv Miller andhis Lady Marie for their support and encouragement. Now on behalf of all of the members of the Rajah Chanters and our ladies,we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy, healthy New Year.18
