Swenson has had a passion for blacksmithing since he was a small child. "My dad had taken a piece of equipment to be repaired by a blacksmith and he had taken me with that day. I just remember going into the shop seeing all of the activity that was going on at that point. <strong>The</strong>re was a fire going in the forge and the blacksmith was pulling some piece of hot iron out of the fire that "i remember the bright color of the fire and the sound of the hammer on the anvil; that was just very impressive to me." <strong>–</strong> Douglas swenson he was working on, hammering it on the anvil. Throughout the years, he has progressed in the art of blacksmithing not only by practicing but also by taking the time to get to know former blacksmiths from years past. "I did have the opportunity, many years ago, to visit some of the smaller community shops here in the area when they existed," mentioned Swenson.
