CHAIRMAN'S REPORTWelcome to ourlatest Annual Report andupdate from HarbourSport, which can best bedescribed as one ofdelivering successthrough adversity.Covid-19 threw everyonea curve ball this year butI?m proud to say that theHarbour Sport teamhave come through stronger than ever. The teammanaged to continue to deliver great service toour community through two lock downs andwere able to develop initiatives so that the Trustdidn?t lose money through this financial year.Anamazing result in anyone?s books.Our CEO, Mike Bishop is no longer a newbie witha full financial year under his belt and achievingsuperb results in the most trying ofcircumstances.The Senior Leadership Team isstronger than ever and the wider positive culturecontinues to grow as is evidenced with theirregular workplace pulse checks.This year brought further change to the boardwith Beth Smith our Deputy Chair stepping downdue to work commitments, we thank her for allof her hard work, especially in leading a key bodyof work to ensure that our Trust Deed is up todate.Congratulations to Bridget Leonard who hasstepped into the Deputy Chair role and the newappointments of Ana Achieson, Bevan Miles andMaria Sopoaga. All three new members bring awonderful range of skills and experiences andenable us to continue our goal to be a diverseboard with diverse thinking.The Board hasworked hard on its commitment to be highperforming and continues its journey towardsthe Governance Mark qualification with severalmilestones achieved throughout the year.As I reflect on the turmoil of this past year, Icannot help but think that next year will bringmore uncertainty and change.Further impactsfrom Covid-19 are all but assured, however theteam has positioned itself well to weather thestorm.On a more positive note, we welcome the wideranging review of Auckland sport by the HarbourSports Council.Is it is heartening to see thiscollective stand up and have the fortitude to seekthe best for our local Harbour Community andthe wider population of Auckland.We shouldnever be afraid to stop and look in the mirrorand check that we are absolutely doing the bestfor our community and stakeholders.Every greatsports team in history has taken this approachand we look forward to seeing the results of thisindependent review and taking anyrecommendations through to implementation.In summary, 2020 has delivered challenges toovercome and there are more ahead in 2021. Welook forward to continuing to work alongside ourcommunity and stakeholders to enact our visonof a physically active and healthy community.Malcolm AllanChairman3
