Elmer Hohl, Canadian Champ, Takes Eastern<br />

National Crown<br />

Husky Elmer Hohl took <strong>the</strong> Eastern National title north <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> border<br />

into Canada, losing only one game to Pennsylvania State champ Jim Ohler<br />

and averaging 82.95 ringers. Ex-World champ Harold Reno <strong>of</strong> Ohio placed<br />

2nd and present World Champ, Paul Focht took 3rd with New York's Carl<br />

Steinfeldt finishing 4th. John Clingan <strong>of</strong> Florida won <strong>the</strong> sportsmanship<br />

trophy.<br />

George Dilgard <strong>of</strong> Ohio pitched 75.9% ringers to edge Arner Lindquist<br />

<strong>of</strong> West Virginia for <strong>the</strong> Class AA title. Herm Boyer <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania won a<br />

closely contested Class A crown with Stan Manker <strong>of</strong> Ohio 2nd. Howard<br />

Bryant <strong>of</strong> Ohio captured Class B from John Curtis <strong>of</strong> Ohio and J. F. Rainbow<br />

<strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania.<br />

World Champ Sue Gillespie lost an exhibition match to Ex-World champ<br />

Anna Lindquist. O<strong>the</strong>r ladies who pitched at Erie were Ruth Thomas and<br />

Linda Duda <strong>of</strong> Lockport, N. Y. and Ruth Bennett <strong>of</strong> Ohio.<br />

The Erie Pa. club did a wonderful job <strong>of</strong> conducting <strong>the</strong> large tourney<br />

which was directed by Joe Peters, Casey Pluta, Paul Beers and Glen Sebring.<br />

National <strong>of</strong>ficers Harold Craig and Bob Pence attended along with Reggie<br />

Fish, head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> New Hampshire State group.<br />
