The Gathering Meal Dani Ovanin
The free community meal at Mount Carmel
continues despite the challenges of COVID. In
2020 we transitioned to carryout meals. Each
guest receives a hot meal and a cold bag lunch
that is picked up at the Center Street doors. Since
March we have relied on Mount Carmel Volunteers
only to prepare, package and distribute the meals.
Thank you to Fred Austermann for preparing the
meals each week and our regular volunteers. Shari
Young, Kathy Beier, Colin and Riley Weber, Andrea
and Keely Raue. Also thank you to Joe Nehmer and
Louis Nemes for stepping in when we were in a
pinch.

2020 brings us to the 10 year anniversary of Cooking
Club at MCLC. And, unfortunately, because of COVID,
we were only able to meet in person twice.
Highlights for 2020:
• In January, we had a round robin, where the night
started at Darlene Behr’s with appetizers, all
homemade by Darlene and Diane Brower. We
moved onto a delicious main course at the
Austermans and finished up at the Watsons with
dessert.
• In May, we decided to have a virtual cooking club
and each member cooked at home and we shared
our pictures with the group and MCLC.
• In 2021, hopefully we’ll resume our meetings
earlier rather than later. When we do our meetings
start at 6:00 PM, and vary on weeknights. At the
end of each session, we get together with our
calendars and set up the next night of cooking.
• Cooking commences from 6PM to 7PM, then we sit
together and share the food.
• We have about 15 members but all are welcome to
be part of this wonderful ministry!
