Serenity Inns Carol Nemes
Mount Carmel participates in the Serenity Inns Dinner Fellowship by bringing dinners each month that has a 5th Wednesday.
This past year, we provided the meal on:
• Jan. 29th
• April 29th
• July 29th
• Sept. 30th
• Oct. 29th (added on)
• Dec. 30th
The meal program at Serenity has been a meaningful experience for the residents and for those of us providing the meal
and/or staying for the dinner and sharing conversation.
Sadly, dinner fellowship has been greatly affected by COVID-19 restrictions. Starting in April, we have been dropping off the
meal at Serenity Inns but not staying to share the dinner fellowship.
There is a Serenity Inns sign-up on Mt. Carmel’s website to volunteer to make part of the meal and to carpool along, when
we can stay for the dinner again.
Thanks to Vicki Andrews, Karen Brubakken, Nancy Pleasants, Dolly Porath, Julie Seidlitz, Amanda Shook, Sue Skony
and Carrie Zagzebski for helping provide meals this year!
Reformation Lutheran Partnership Deb Thompson
The year 2020 was a difficult year for many of us, but
Reformation Lutheran Church continued to provide support in
many different ways. These support programs included Zoom
Bible Studies, Zoom Youth Groups and Summer Work
Programs. They also provided financial support to many who
needed help with their rent after losing jobs. Although the
Neighborhood Store was closed occasionally during the
pandemic, Reformation also continued to provide cleaning
and hygienic supplies to the neighborhood through the
Son-Rise Pantry. Throughout the year, Mount Carmel
generously donated these supplies through bi-monthly drives
through collections that helped keep the Pantry supplied.
Other donations to the Neighborhood store continued
throughout the year, but the bulk of the donations went to the Son-Rise Pantry.
But we missed out on many things this year. One was our Fellowship Sunday, where other ELCA
congregations who supported Reformation’s programs came together on a Sunday in October for a church
service to worship together. We also missed our joint dinners with Mount Zion, Reformation and Mount
Carmel sharing a meal as well as fellowship with others from each of these congregations. Volunteering
together on Mondays sorting items in the store had to be cancelled We also missed out in participating in
Pastor Marilyn’s retirement worship on December 6th. Hopefully, we will again be able to come together in
2021 to continue these activities and show support for our sister congregation.
