Ahead of its first meeting of the year on Friday, the board identified a number of priorities it wanted to initially address. Board chairwoman Emma Norrish was feeling positive for the year to come in spite Emma Norrish of the major disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. “I’m feeling really positive, we had a tough time last year but people are ready to move forward and get things done. Increased traffic and unsafe driver behaviour in both of these areas posed safety risks for residents accessing their properties and for pedestrians walking nearby. Beginning next month, a peak hour bus lane is being trialled for three months on Cranford St. Residents wanted a bus lane to encourage people to get out of their cars, and the trial will determine a need for it as a means to manage the increased traffic. They feared the new motorway put “cars over the community,” facilitating more vehicles into their quiet neighbourhoods, and put public transport options on the backburner. Last week, Nor’West News revealed what plans the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board had up its sleeve for the first half of the year. Chairman David Cartwright said this included installing bigger rubbish bins at high usage parks, addressing derelict buildings and improving pedestrian safety.
