History

1969
Throughout the fall, winter, and spring of 1969-70, a group met in
West Hartford at the home of Art and Ginny Miller and discussed
the many aspects of starting a Christian school.
1997
A new building that connects the gym with the locker rooms was
built.
1970
With a building and Headmaster in place, The Master’s School
opened in September with 52 students in kindergarten through
grade 3 and grades 8 and 9. Soon the program grew to grades
K-12.
2000
2005
The dining hall was built.
The first section of the Lower School was completed.
1972
Enrollment grew to a point where more space was already needed,
so the Board took another step of faith and built a new Lower
School building in the meadow behind the barn. The Board also
bought army buildings near the border of Avon for the Middle
and Upper Schools. Parents, students, and teachers transformed
the ugly buildings into bright, welcoming spaces that would serve
as home for grades 7-12
2007
2009
The west wing of the Lower School was completed.
The preschool, early kindergarten and kindergarten moved from
their off-site locations to the new Lower School building. Now all
classes from preschool through Grade 12 were united on one
campus.
1976
1979
The Masters’ School was granted initial accreditation with the
New England Association of Schools and Colleges for the next
10 years.
A 225-acre tract of land on Westledge Road was secured via a
lease-with-option-to-buy. The Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools
could eventually come together on the new property.
2019
The Master’s School’s Jubilee Celebration launched on October
12, 2019 and will continue for 20 months concluding with
Graduation 2021. “Our greatest reason for celebration is to honor
the God who has led us step by step and who will lead us in the
future through the miracle of ‘education from the inside out’ in a
place which is truly The Master’s School.”
1989
After a successful capital campaign, a gym was built.
The heart of The Master’s School has remained the same through headmaster changes, faculty and staff changes, many hundreds of students
and campus modifications. The Master’s School continues to be a community where parents, faculty, staff and students all contribute to the
daily life and to the growth of the school.
