Message from Fr Anthony P.P.

This Vol. Wednesday 39 is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. 14th Lent lasts for 40

days February, but for some 2021 it may seem that Lent has being going on since last

March and for many it has been a bit like Lent since Christmas. In that

much time we have had to give up a lot, so it could be said why should we

give __________________________________________

up

more for Lent. Lockdown has meant that we have had to make sacrifices,

from stopping doing thingswhich we enjoy to meeting family and friends.

Emotionally that has been difficult. Traditionally Lent was about three

things, fasting, doing penance and giving alms (charity). They are good for

us physically and spiritually, and maybe emotionally too. I will bless ashes

during mass on Wednesday morning and they will be available in both

churches afterwards.

Happy St. Valentine’s Day to all concerned.

CÉAD LÉACHT

Sliocht as an leabhar Léivític 13:1-2. 45-46

Aireadh an lobhar ar leithrigh; bíodh cónaí air lasmuigh den

champa.

Dúirt an Tiarna le Maois agus le hÁrón: “Nuair a bhíonn at nó

gearb nó spota ar chneas duine, ní mór a bheith in amhras faoi

lobhra chnis. Ní foláir an duine a bhreith chun Árón an sagart,

nó go duine dá chlann mhac is sagart.

“An duine ar a bhfuil galar na lobhra, bíodh a chuid éadaigh ina

ngeiríocha, agus a chuid gruaige ina mothall gan slacht; ní foláir

dó a bhéal uachtair a fholach agus glao a chur as: ‘Neamhghlan!

Neamhghlan!’ Fad a mhaireann an galar, bíodh sé neamhghlan;

ós neamhghlan é, maireadh sé ar leithrigh; bíodh cónaí air

lasmuigh den champa.

Briathar Dé.

Salm le Freagra Sm 31

Freagra

Is tú m’áit folaigh, a Thiarna.

Cuireann tú gártha tarrthála i mo thimpeall.

1. Is beannaithe dár maitheadh a choir,

dár folaíodh a pheaca:

an té nach gcuireann an Tiarna

cion ina leith,

is nach bhfuil cealg ina chroí. Freagra

2. Ach d’admhaigh mé mo pheaca duit cheana

is níor cheil mé m’urchóid.

Dúirt me: ‘Admhóidh mé anois

mo choir don Tiarna.’

Agus thug tú maithiúnas dom, a Thiarna,

mhaith tú mo pheaca.

Freagra

3. Déanaigí lúcháir agus gairdeas sa Tiarna,

a fhíréana go léir!

Déanaigí aoibhneas agus áthas,

a lucht an chroí dhírigh. Freagra

DARA LÉACHT

Sliocht as an chéad litir Naomh Pól chuig na Coirintigh

10:31-11:1

Déanaigíse aithrisormsa mar a dhéanaimse aithris ar Chríost.

A bhráithre, cibé acu dhéanann sibh ithe nó ól nó ní ar bith eile,

déanaigí an t-iomlán chun glóire Dé. Ná cuirigí as do Ghiúdaigh

ná do Ghréagaigh ná d’eaglais Dé. Sin é mo dhála-sa: bím ag

iarraidh gach duine a shásamh i ngach slí gan aon tóir agam ar

mo leas féin ach ar leas an tslua le hionchas go slánofaí iad.

Déanaigíse aithris ormsa mar a dhéanaimse aithris ar Chríost.

Alleluia Véarsa Lc 19: 38

Alleluia, alleluia!

Is beannaithe an té atá ag teacht ina rí, in ainm an Tiarna!

Síocháin sna flaithis, agus glóire in uachtar neimhe.”

Alleluia!

SOISCÉAL

Sliocht as an Soiscéal naofa de réir Naomh Marcas

1:40-45

D’fhág an lobhra é láithreach agus glanadh é.

San am sin tháinig lobhar chuig Íosa ag achainí air agus é

ar a dhá ghlúin: “Más áil leat é,” ar seisean, “is féidir duit

mé a ghlanadh.” Íosa trua dó, shín amach a lámh agus

bhain leis: “Is áil,” ar seisean leis, “glantar thú!” D’fhág

an lobhra é láithreach agus glanadh é. Labhair Íosa go

corraiceach leis agus chuir chun siúil é gan mhoill ag rá

leis: “Ná habair focal le haon duine, féach, ach imigh leat

agus taispeáin don sagart thú féin agus déan, de chionn do

ghlanta, an ofráil a d’ordaigh Maois mar fhianaise

dóibh.” Ní túisce a d’fhág an duine an láthair, áfach, ná

bhí guth ard aige ag leathadh an scéil, ionas nach

bhféadfadh Íosa dul isteach go hoscailte i gcathair feasta,

ach fanacht lasmuigh sna háiteanna uaigneacha agus bhítí

ag triall air as gach aird.

Soiscéal Dé.
