AUSGANGSLAGE │ STARTING SITUATION 

Ein mehr als 50.000 Quadratmeter großer Abschnitt eines in 

einem westeuropäischen Seehafen gelegenen 

Containerterminals musste saniert werden. Die Trag- und 

Verschleißschicht war durch eine extensive Nutzung mit 

Reach-Stackern und Sattelzügen stark in Mitleidenschaft 

gezogen worden. Umwelt- und Witterungseinflüsse hatten 

der Trag- und Verschleißschicht zusätzlich zugesetzt. Daraus 

resultierte ein Sicherheitsrisiko für den Güterumschlag. 

Da das Containerterminal eine wesentliche Rolle bei der 

Güterversorgung in dieser Region einnahm, war die 

Voraussetzung für die Sanierung, dass eine solche während 

des laufenden Betriebes stattfindet und den Güterumschlag 

dabei nicht beeinträchtigt. 

Die vorhandene Trag- und Deckschicht wurde im Rahmen der 

umfassenden Sanierung unter Verwendung der InfraCrete®- 

Technologie in eine kombinierte Trag- und Frostschutzschicht 

umgewandelt und mit einer dünnen Deck- / 

Verschleißschicht aus Asphalt versehen. 

A section of more than 50,000 square meters of a container 

terminal located in a Western European seaport had to be 

rehabilitated. The base and wearing course had been severely 

affected by extensive use 24/7 with reach stackers and semitrucks. 

Environmental and weather influences had additionally 

affected the base and wearing course. This resulted in a safety 

risk for cargo handling. 

Since the container terminal played an essential role in the 

supply of goods to the region, the prerequisite for the 

rehabilitation was that it could take place during ongoing 

operations and would not impair cargo handling in any way. 

Therefore, as part of the comprehensive rehabilitation, the 

existing base and wearing courses were converted into a 

combined base and anti frost course using InfraCrete® 

technology and provided with a thin top / wearing course of 

asphalt.

VORBEREITUNGSARBEITEN │ PREPARATION WORKS 

Im einem ersten Schritt wurde die vorhandene Trag- und 

Verschleißschicht durchgefräst, um ein homogenes 

Baustoffgemisch zu erhalten, das gleichsam als 

Ausgangsmaterial für die bevorstehende Umwandlung in 

eine kombinierte Trag- und Frostschutzschicht dienen sollte. 

Wie bei diesem anerkannten Bauverfahren üblich, war weder 

die Exkavation und Entsorgung des vor Ort befindlichen alten 

Materials notwendig, noch die Wiederauffüllung mit neuem 

Material. Stattdessen wurde das bereits vorhandene 

Material homogen gebrochen und wieder verwendet. Dies 

gilt insbesondere auch für die alte Deck- und 

Verschleißschicht aus Asphalt, die ebenfalls vollumfänglich 

einer Wiederverwendung zugeführt wurde. 

In a first step, the existing base and wearing course was milled 

through to obtain a homogeneous mixture of construction 

materials that would serve as the base material for the 

upcoming conversion into a combined base and anti-frost 

layer. 

As is customary with this accepted construction method, 

there was no need to excavate and dispose of the old material 

on site, nor was there any need to backfill with new material. 

Instead, the existing material was homogeneously crushed 

and reused. This also applies in particular to the old surface 

and wearing course of asphalt, which was also fully reused.

BINDEMITTELAUSTRAG │ BINDER DISCHARGE 

Die Sanierung erfolgte im Wege der In-Situ- 

Bodenverfestigung durch Einfräsen von Bindemittel in das 

vorbereitete Ausgangsmaterial. 

Das verwendete Bindemittel bestand aus 98 M-% Zement, 

Typ CEM I 42.5, und 2 M-% InfraCrete®. 

Die zwei Produkte wurden separat ausgetragen. Der Zement 

wurde mit einer großen Streueinheit und das Spezialadditiv 

InfraCrete® mit einer Streueinheit mit Mindermengenstreuwerk 

ausgebracht. 

Die Gesamtausstreumenge betrug 54 Kilogramm pro 

Quadratmeter. Dies entspricht 53 Kilogramm Zement und 1 

Kilogramm InfraCrete® pro Quadratmeter. 

The rehabilitation was carried out by in situ soil consolidation 

/ stabilization by milling binder into the prepared base 

material. 

The binder used consisted of 98 M% cement, type CEM I 42.5, 

and 2 M% InfraCrete®. 

The two products were discharged separately. The cement 

was spread with a large spreading unit and the special 

additive InfraCrete® with a spreading unit with a low-volume 

spreader. 

The total spread rate was 54 kilograms per square meter. This 

corresponds to 53 kilograms of cement and 1 kilograms of 

InfraCrete® per square meter.

FRÄSARBEITEN │ MILLING WORK 

Das ausgestreute Bindemittel wurde mit einer Bodenfräse in 

nur einem einzigen Arbeitsgang auf eine Tiefe von 30 

Zentimetern in das vorhandene Ausgangsmaterial eingefräst. 

Die erforderliche Mächtigkeit der Tragschicht von 30 

Zentimetern wurde zuvor von einem bodenmechanischen 

Labor im Rahmen einer Rezepturermittlung bestimmt. 

Vor und während des Fräsvorgangs wurde darauf geachtet, 

dass der ebenfalls im Labor zuvor ermittelte 

Einbauwassergehalt, der für die optimale Hydratation 

erforderlich ist, eingehalten wird. 

Es wurde eine Einbauzeit von maximal 90 Minuten 

festgelegt, da das Spezialadditiv InfraCrete® unter anderem 

den Hydratationsprozess beschleunigt und damit auch für 

eine gewollt erhöhte Frühfestigkeit sorgt. 

The spread binder was milled into the existing base material 

to a depth of 30 centimeters in a single pass using a rotary 

tiller. 

The required thickness of the base course of 30 centimeters 

was previously determined by a soil mechanics laboratory as 

part of the recipe determination. 

Before and during the milling process, care was taken to 

ensure that the installation water content required for 

optimum hydration, which had also been previously 

determined in the laboratory, was maintained. 

A maximum installation time of 90 minutes was specified, 

since the special additive InfraCrete® accelerates the 

hydration process, among other things, and thus also ensures 

a deliberately increased early strength.

VERDICHTUNG │ COMPACTING 

Das Fräsgut wurde unmittelbar nach dem Fräsvorgang mit 

einem lasergesteuerten Grader nivelliert und mit einer 

Stahlmantelwalze und einer Gummiradwalze verdichtet, um 

das vorgegebene Verdichtungsmaß zu gewährleisten. 

Die Tragschicht war damit für die Installation der Deckschicht 

aus Asphalt vorbereitet. Alternativ wäre auch eine 

Deckschicht aus Pflasterung oder Chipseal möglich gewesen, 

ebenso die der Verzicht auf jegliche Deckschicht und der 

Betrieb der Tragschicht als sog. naturnahe Oberfläche. 

Immediately after the milling operation, the milled material 

was leveled with a laser-controlled grader and compacted 

with a steel jacket roller and a pneumatic tired roller to 

ensure the specified degree of compaction. 

The base course was thus prepared for the installation of the 

asphalt wearing course. Alternatively, a paving or chipseal 

surface would have been possible, as well as the omission of 

any surface course and the operation of the base course as a 

so-called near-natural surface.
