Feed Your Body and Soul
Since 1971, Canyon Way has been nourishing locals and visitors alike with
scrumptious homemade lunch and dinner, and providing them with great
books at the same time! Their chicken curry soup has just the right amount
of spice, and the fresh Dungeness crab cakes are amazing. They also
specialize in pasta and local oysters. The relaxed atmosphere at Canyon
Way completes the experience, especially when you find the right book to
take with you on your adventures. The restaurant and bookstore are open
Monday through Friday.
he Yaquina Bay
Lighthouse, completed
in 1871, is believed to
be Newport’s oldest
building. The structure is Oregon’s only
remaining wooden lighthouse with built-in
living quarters, and is reputed to be haunted.
Regular daily tours of the lighthouse
are available, and admission is free with
donation. The Yaquina Bay Bridge was
constructed in 1936, and is perhaps the most
recognizable landmark in Newport. With an
iconic central arch and gothic columns, the
bridge is impressive against the horizon,
especially when the sun is setting over the
Pacific. Visit the lighthouse, and then walk
over the Bay Bridge to South Beach.
Find Fresh and Local Produce
Thankfully, the bustling Newport Farmer’s Market, held every Saturday from
May through October, will not simply vanish from the intersection of Hwy
101 and Angle St., but will move indoors through the winter and spring.
Much of the produce, meats, baked goods, and the wide assortment of
crafts offered by the Farmer’s Market will still be available at the Newport
Winter Farmer’s Market from November through April every Saturday from
9 am to 1 pm. Stroll through the market with a steaming cup of hot coffee
or tea, and select the perfect produce, meats, and crafts.
