56 FIRST LOOKS Yamato Scale Yamato Scale develops TSDW series of semi-automatic multi-head weighers Yamato Scale has developed the TSDW series, its semi-automatic table-top dataweigh which is designed for producing fixed weight food packages. The TSDW series is equipped with IP65 wash-down function for non-pressurised hosedown cleaning, and features a space-saving design. Besides labour savings, work efficiency is also enhanced as the weighing solution discharges the combination of product as one group. For ease of operation, the TSDW series is fitted with a beltconveyor system that utilises a small drop to minimise damage to delicate and fragile. For instance, the system allows for the gentle handling of products such as mushrooms, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, seafood, and poultry. Yamato Scale’s TSDW series is available in two models – TSDW-205W and TSDW-206W. The main computer calculates the desired combination in a fraction of a second, and activates the conveyor belt in the relevant weighing units. The targeted product amount is then forwarded for packaging. Equipped with 12 weighing units, the TSDW-205W features a combination speed of 20-25wpm, and is available with flat and V-shaped conveyor. As for TSDW-206W, the semi-automatic multi-head weigher has access to 14 weighing units, and features a combination speed of 20-35wpm. Also available with flat and V-shaped conveyor, the net weight for flat and V-shaped conveyor is 220kg and 230kg respectively. ■ Baker Perkins Baker Perkins unveils new continuous low-output confectionery system Baker Perkins has introduced a continuous ServoForm Mini cooking and depositing line in response to demand for a 50kg/hr system with the efficiency of automatic operation. The ServoForm Mini range comprises batch and continuous options for both cooking and depositing. The continuous option incorporates a JellyCook batch or Turbofilm Mini continuous cooker with a ServoForm Mini continuous depositor and cooling tunnel in a line. The system can produce functional pectin jellies or medicated hard candies, as well as confectionery including toffees and lollipops. It is designed for low-volume, high-value production environments; or to produce short runs and large batches for research, product development and test marketing purposes. Based on Baker Perkins’ ServoForm depositing technology, Mini depositors have the same specifications as the full-size equivalent for precise scale-up. A choice of batch or continuous integrated cooking Baker Perkins’ systems is offered Turbofilm Mini cooker to meet product flexibility and output requirements. Either will work with the continuous ServoForm Mini depositing line. The JellyCook is a batch cooker comprising weighing, mixing and cooking in an integrated system for gelatine, pectin and hard candy confectionery syrups. It can readily be used to feed a continuous depositor, and comes into its own when small batches are needed. The cooker washes out automatically after each 30kg batch to prevent cross-contamination, and each batch can be different. This matches the flexibility of the ServoForm Mini batch depositor where a different mould set can be used for each batch, but would also be the option for a continuous line producing short runs of multiple stock keeping units (SKUs). The Turbofilm Mini is an integrated continuous cooking system for gelatine, pectin and hard candy. Continuous dissolving and cooking bring the advantages of high efficiency, low waste and low energy use, as well as ease of operation to production of longer runs. The JellyCook and Turbofilm are both designed for addition of active ingredients, colours and flavours. They may be added proportionately to a weighed quantity of cooked syrup in a reservoir tank or in-line using a continuous dosing and mixing system. ■ FOOD & BEVERAGE ASIA JUNE / JULY <strong>2020</strong>
Syntegon Technology Syntegon Technology launches Kliklok ACE carton former Syntegon Technology has launched its new Kliklok Advanced Carton Erector (ACE) carton former. The Kliklok ACE is developed with a particular focus on ergonomic design, sustainability, and increased efficiency. Janet Darnley, Product Manager at Syntegon Technology in Decatur, the US, said, “The new carton former platform combines high-speed forming capabilities with a generous carton size range, giving manufacturers a lot of flexibility.” The Kliklok ACE range runs at up to 80 cycles per minute with single, double or triple head, and is ideal for a number of food applications, such as bakery, snacks, cereal bars, frozen and prepared food, tea and coffee, as well as non-food products. The new Kliklok ACE carton The new Kliklok ACE carton former platform was developed with a focus on ergonomic design, former can form lock-style and sustainability, and increased efficiency glue-style cartons on the same machine, offering manufacturers enhanced flexibility. Syntegon Technology also provides the machine with ultrasonic technology. Both the lock and ultrasonic versions, are glue-free, making them a sustainable option. The Kliklok ACE range can handle different carton format sizes, ranging from a blank size of 190mm length by 122mm wide to 800mm length by 600mm wide. Syntegon Technology has further developed the machine with a new Flex Feeder. The solution offers positive carton control, transferring the cartons reliably from the forming process to the machine exit. Darnley added that this reduces the risk of jams within the machine that causes stops and downtime. The Kliklok ACE is also capable of running paper board or corrugated material. The company has further placed an emphasis on an ergonomic design machine. The carton hopper, which operates load manually, is designed at waist height, making the feeding process more operator friendly. Overall, the machine allows toolless changeovers, which supports vertical start-up. Compared to the previous machine series, the Kliklok ACE has a smaller footprint. The new on-board electrics eliminate the need for a control cabinet, as Darnley concluded, “This solution not only saves a lot of space but is also easy to access for troubleshooting. In addition, since no cabinet is needed, the process no longer requires air conditioning, which is more efficient and sustainable.” ■
