The Twin Rivers event, organised by Avonhead Rotary<br />
Club as a Charity fundraiser is hugely popular and well<br />
established on the local motoring enthusiast’s calendar,<br />
catering for all types of vehicle and a broad range of<br />
interests.<br />
The diverse range of vehicles has always ensured this<br />
popular event draws large numbers every year, and the<br />
parade is always a crowd pleaser. Special sections for<br />
classic trucks and vintage machinery have been introduced<br />
due to popular demand.<br />
Last years’ event was extremely successful with over 650<br />
cars participating. We were also lucky that we managed to<br />
get in just before lockdown, so at least some enthusiasts<br />
were able to recall a great event over the succeeding weeks.<br />
Paul Kelly Motor Company is once again the principal<br />
sponsor of the event for<br />
the ninth consecutive<br />
year. “The Twin Rivers event is a great day out on the<br />
Canterbury calendar and we’re delighted to be supporting<br />
the event and this years’ charity The Canterbury Charity<br />
Hospital’” says Ben Harris, General Manager of PKMC.<br />
This year’s event on Sunday 14th <strong>March</strong> <strong>2021</strong> will be the<br />
24th year the event has run, and is now a fixture for the<br />
second Sunday in <strong>March</strong> in the future.<br />
The entry charge of $20 per display and per<br />
spectator vehicle – irrespective of how<br />
full you can get them - will again go<br />
towards providing the Canterbury<br />
Charity Hospital with some much<br />
needed surgical equipment to<br />
enable them to continue to<br />
assist and support people in<br />
need in Canterbury.<br />
The parade route has been<br />
changed by popular request<br />
to regain some affinity with<br />
the Christchurch rivers and<br />
further refined this year to<br />
suit traffic conditions. The<br />
parade starts at 2.30 pm,<br />
and around 20 minutes<br />
later should be passing by<br />
Princess Margaret Hospital<br />
in Cashmere, which will be a<br />
great vantage spot to see some<br />
magnificent vehicles in all their glory.<br />
Notices have been erected along the parade route so<br />
that people are able to see the cars. The parade is expected<br />
to take 45-60 minutes and will return<br />
to the Showgrounds.<br />
Special displays this year include<br />
the ever-popular demonstrations<br />
and test drives of electric vehicles;<br />
the ‘Go Baby Go’ project, a<br />
project supported by Sunrise<br />
Rotary which improves mobility<br />
for disabled children; the Vintage<br />
Machinery Club with fantastic<br />
old tractors and other interesting<br />
machines, as well as displays of some<br />
very special cars from our sponsors.<br />
Twin Rivers is renowned for its great<br />
atmosphere – those who come along can<br />
enjoy live music, entertainment for all ages, food<br />
and refreshments.<br />
