Dear
reader,
For the last five years, we at Serviceplan have been preparing
for the challenges posed by the growing pervasiveness of
the Internet. The fact of the matter is that, thanks to the
Internet, the world of advertising is becoming increasingly
globalised – yet still remains local. The question is how we,
as the largest owner-managed agency in Germany with 1,230
employees, will respond to this megatrend.
We are now represented in 21 locations throughout Europe,
America and Asia – in some cases with our own branches,
in others through investments and partnerships. We use
globalisation strategies for international campaigns that still
need to observe local specifics. So we don’t adapt – we localise.
Which means that the Internet is at the heart of our
cross-media strategies. It is the most important media and
advertising platform of the future and will account for over
50 percent of spend in the years to come. To highlight this
phenomenon, we use the name of our digital agency for our
global business and call ourselves “Plan.Net International”.
We would like to take this opportunity to show you where
and, in particular, how, we work and to give you a vivid insight
into the integrated, innovative, increasingly powerful and international
communications world of the Serviceplan Group.
Enjoy reading about us!
Best wishes
Wohin Europäer vor schlechtem Wetter
Der Werbemarkt in Dubai ist rasant.
„Mobile, local, social“ ist angesagt statt
Print, Radio, TV. 22 Prozent des jährlichen
Unternehmen im Mittleren Osten und
Nordafrika zurzeit in digitale Medien.
Tendenz: rasant steigend. Hier, wo Kulturen,
Fairytales come true in the place where
Europeans flee to escape the bad weather,
where Pakistanis come to earn money and
where rich Africans indulge in some serious
luxury shopping. In the bazaars of Dubai,
the scent of nutmeg mingles with that of
The advertising market in Dubai is booming.
Forget print, radio and TV – “mobile,
local, social” are the buzzwords here. Middle
Eastern and North African companies
currently invest 22 percent of their annual
marketing budget in digital media. And
this is likely to increase – rapidly. Mobile
marketing and video are key in a melting
pot of cultures, people and brands.
Advertising trends also apply to Dubai
BMW’s first, highly emotive, CSR campaign in the Middle East promoted greater road safety. In terms
of equivalent value, media reports alone were worth more than half a million dollars.
Dubai is a tolerant world of glitz
and glamour, a hub between continents
and a paradise for brands
and brand builders.
itself: tradition meets modernity. BMW
recently launched their first Corporate
Social Responsibility campaign in Dubai.
Successfully. People here are looking for
the same things as everyone else around
the world: honesty. They want authentic
messages in a transparentcommunication
world.
The fundamental issue that needs to be
addressed here, even more so than in other
regions, is: how global and how local must
the brand appear without losing its global
essence? ←
Think global,
act local
Welche Themen bestimmen den
Markt im eurasischen Raum?
Markus Noder, Geschäftsführer
von Plan.Net International, steht
Rede und Antwort.
Der eurasische Kommunikationsmarkt
wächst rasant. Wohin geht die Entwicklung?
MARKUS NODER: Wie in allen Schwellenländern
verändert sich die Kommunikation
eindeutig in Richtung digitaler
Medien. Sie prägen inzwischen die Kommunikation
und sind deshalb auch zwingend
fester Bestandteil aller Kampagnen.
Was beschäftigt die Kommunikationsverantwortlichen
am meisten?
6 absatzwirtschaft Kompakt
NODER: Unsere Kunden agieren international.
Sie stehen vor der Herausforderung,
ihre Marke weltweit aufzustellen und dennoch
für die Menschen in verschiedenen
Kulturkreisen und Wertesystemen gleichermaßen
attraktiv zu machen.
Also geht es um das Spannungsfeld
zwischen globalem und lokalem Markenauftritt?
N ODER: Genau, die Kardinalfrage lautet:
Wie global oder lokal muss eine Marke
geführt werden? Und wie kann sie dabei
trotzdem international konsistent auftreten?
Unsere Kunden vertrauen dabei auf
unsere Markenführungskompetenz und
Marktkenntnis vor Ort. ←
Transferring brand story into people’s personalized experiences: BMW Gran Turismo and photographer
What are the defining themes
in the Eurasian market? Question
and answer session with
Markus Noder, Managing Director
of Plan.Net International.
The Eurasian communications market is
growing rapidly, what trends do you foresee?
MARKUS NODER: As in all emergingmarket
countries, there is a clear move
in the direction of digital media. It is a
hallmark of all communication now and
therefore necessarily an integral element
of all campaigns.
What’s the most important aspect for communications
professionals?
NODER:Our clients operate internationally.
They are faced with the challenge of
positioning their brand globally and at the
same time making it equally attractive to
people in different cultural spheres, with
different value systems.
So there is a delicate balance between a
global and local brand presence?
NODER: Exactly. The key question is:
to what extent must a brand be managed
globally or locally? And how can it still
remain consistent at an international level?
Our clients rely on our brand management
expertise and local market knowledge to
make these decisions. ←
Savoir
communiquer
Egal, ob im Verkehr oder in der
Kommunikation: Flink und clever
muss sein, wer in Frankreichs Metropole
vorankommen will.
Olivier Bronner, Managing Partner von
Plan.Net France, weiß genau, wie sich
der Kommunikationsmarkt in Frankreich
entwickeln wird: „The future is digitally
Solutions, Evianmaman, Western Union
und Citroën setzen auf das Team – und
fahren gut damit. ←
Whether it’s traffic or communication,
speed and smarts are of
the essence for getting ahead in
the French capital.
Olivier Bronner, Managing Partner of
Plan.Net France, knows exactly how the
communications market in France will
evolve: “The future is digitally bright!”.
The Champs-Élysées, with the Arc de
Triomphe to the rear and the Obelisk to
the front. This is the home of brands like
Guerlain, the Louis Vuitton luxury group
– and, like many other places in Paris, this
is where traffic is at a standstill: lucky for
those who can move around quickly here,
zip through the streets and alleyways,
veer around the large limousines on Les
Champs, change direction smoothly.
Demonstrating once again that advertising
and traffic have a lot in common:
French marketing is also on the move
– the digital spirit permeates all areas
of life, reaches all target groups and is a
life-changer for everyone from Bocuse
to Bruni. Good news for feisty advertisers
who are hungry and passionate, who
network around the world yet love their
home country, who are strategically strong,
independent thinkers and excel creatively.
The communications industry has been
dominated by large companies for decades.
Now it’s the turn of the fleet of foot.
This is increasingly reflected in the choice
of agency partners as Olivier Bronner
discovers when he glances at his client list.
Companies like AEG Power Solutions,
Evianmaman, Western Union and Citroën
are on the team – and they are reaping the
benefits. ←
Made-to-measure
in Milan
Unverwechselbar bei Mode, Kultur
und Sport: Mailand steht für
Versace, Prada, Alfa Romeo, AC
und Inter Mailand und IKEA –
IKEA? IKEA!
Zu Hunderten stürmten italienische Kunden
die neu eröffnete Niederlassung in San
Giuliano. IKEA hatte eingeladen zum
Opening Event und die Mailänder fanden
das ganz magnificamente.
Kein Wunder, denn das schwedische Möbelhaus
hat kommunikativ alle Register
gezogen: digital und real. Die Zahl der
Breitbandzugänge in Italien wächst rasant,
ebenso die Nutzung von Social und
Mobile Media.
Wer das Herz der Italiener erreichen
will, muss heute genau hinschauen, in
wessen Brust es schlägt: Die Zielgruppen
im Stiefelstaat fragmentieren rapide und
die Vielzahl der Kanäle macht Werbung
komplexer. „Zwar ist TV im italienischen
Markt nach wie vor das Hauptwer-
10 absatzwirtschaft Kompakt
gewinnen aber wegen der hervorragenden
Möglichkeiten, zielgruppenspezifisch zu
agieren, immer mehr an Bedeutung“, sagt
Elisabetta Oldrini, Managing Director von
Plan.Net Italy.
Ein ebenso wichtiger Trend: Research und
Tracking, damit Unternehmen Kunden
und Multiplikatoren über die präferierten
Kanäle erreichen – mit exakt der Ansprache,
die auf sie zugeschnitten ist. Denn wer
will schon riskieren, einen AC-Fan mit
From the digital to the real world: Plan.Net Italy uses online activities to generate any amount of
traffic – in online media and at IKEA’s opening event in San Giuliano.
Unmistakable Milanese brands
in fashion, culture and sport:
the north Italian city is renowned
for Versace, Prada, Alfa
Romeo, AC and Inter Milan and
IKEA – IKEA? IKEA!
Hundreds of Italian customers thronged
the newly opened store in San Giuliano.
IKEA had invited them all to the opening
event and the good people of Milan
thought that was just magnificamente.
No surprise there. The Swedish furniture
giant had covered all the angles when
it came to publicity: both digital and
traditional. Broadband access is growing
rapidly in Italy, as is the use of social and
mobile media.
Whoever wants to steal the heart of Italians
now has to know exactly where this
heart is beating: target groups in Italy are
fragmenting quickly and the diversity of
channels makes advertising more complex.
“It’s true that TV is still the main
advertising medium in the Italian market,
but social and mobile media are gaining in
importance due to the fantastic opportunities
they offer in operating among specific
target groups,” says Elisabetta Oldrini,
Managing Director of Plan.Net Italy.
An another very important trend is research
and tracking, which allow companies
to reach customers and opinion leaders
through their preferred channels – using
an approach that is tailor-made for them.
After all, who wants to risk confusing an
AC fan with an Inter supporter? ←
